2025-26 NBA Season

Well to assume it was a May pick is essentially saying the Mavs don’t have a draft process. They didn’t scout for a year. Is there a scenario where they wanted a few guys and all of them got taken? Sure. I honestly believe he fits what Ujiri likes. He seems like a Pascal Siakam starter kit but with better defense.

Yes they seem headed in the right direction . If Larry can help this year in the back court the draft has the makings of a home run .

Burries does look good, but everyone needs to keep in mind it's summer league. Here's are some good reasons to say " Yes, it's still summer league"

Specific examples of stars with forgettable Summer League showings:
  • Karl-Anthony Towns: During his 2015 debut, the No. 1 overall pick struggled with foul trouble and inconsistent scoring. He averaged under 12 points while shooting below 40% from the field before going on to win Rookie of the Year and become a multi-time All-Star. [1]
  • Draymond Green: In the 2012 Summer League, Green averaged 6.4 points and shot an abysmal 27.8% from the floor and 20% from three-point range. He subsequently developed into a four-time NBA Champion, Defensive Player of the Year, and All-Star. [1]
  • Al Horford: Prior to his highly decorated NBA career, Horford struggled in the 2007 Summer League. In four games for Atlanta, he averaged 9.3 points and 9 rebounds but shot a woeful 34.2% from the floor. [1]
  • Jalen Brunson: During his early years, Brunson's Summer League performances were described as underwhelming before he evolved into an NBA superstar and perennial All-Star. [1]
Notable Summer League standouts who fell short in the NBA:

Josh Selby: After being drafted in the second round, Selby won co-MVP honors in the 2012 Las Vegas Summer League, leading the tournament in scoring. However, he played just 38 NBA games before washing out of the league. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Wayne Selden Jr.: Selden was the star of the 2017 Orlando Summer League, averaging 24.3 points and securing MVP honors. Despite the summer hype, his athleticism and shot-creating didn't translate, and his NBA career was brief.

Dante Cunningham: Known for spectacular individual scoring outbursts in Summer League (including a famous 40-point debut), his physical play style didn't translate to a reliable offensive role in the NBA

Lazar Hayward: Hayward was a prolific scorer during his Minnesota Timberwolves summer stints, but a lack of size for his position and inconsistent shooting prevented him from earning a permanent NBA rotation spot.

Glen Rice Jr.: Following a stellar 2014 Las Vegas Summer League where he won MVP, Rice showed off dynamic scoring and playmaking. He played only a handful of regular-season games before leaving the league due to off-court issues.

I think everyone needs to hold back a little from how the players preformed during the summer league. Seems some people want to anoint those specific players like they are the next coming of Jordan/Kobe.

There is no hype like Anthony “Magic Johnson” Randolph Summer League hype.

God, I miss those days. And the Orlando summer league and their best summer league announcing tandem. Ever.

From the tweet

My key takeaways from Summer League:- We have four worthy number 1 picks in this draft in Dybantsa, Peterson, Boozer and Wilson. All have been as good or better than advertised.- Darius Acuff lacks defensive engagement and overall proficiency in that area. This isn’t saying he can’t be a reasonable defender one day, but if it stands out at Summer League it’s going to be glaring in the league. He does however, have that star makeup on the offensive end. He will make big shots. He will make tough shots. Either way he will be box office and sell tickets in Sacramento. The buzz is already starting to show.

He also has that late game gene which can open up his ceiling in the league as a go-to guy at the end of games.- Cameron Carr is a steal in this draft- Yaxel Lendeborg can play rotation minutes for the Warriors tomorrow and be fine- Aday Mara has mobility concerns at the next level. He’s talented and will no doubt have an impact, but it will always be there. You can’t teach size though and he’s going to be effective in the right lineups.- Morez Johnson Jr has been great, but I still think the Mavs may end up regretting not taking Brayden Burries ahead of him who’s been super impactful in every appearance.- Keaton Wagler is the type of prospect I feel will always need a strong complimentary back court partner next to him in order to maximize his own gifts.- Outside of Darryn Peterson, Mikel Brown Jr has every chance to be the best guard in this draft. Motor, decision-making, IQ, playmaking, athleticism, communication. He’s shown it all.- I have questions around Kingston Flemings’ rim pressure and overall shooting, but his ball security is a plus, his defensive aggression is always there and his ability to operate in a heavy pick-and-roll offense translates to the league- Tyler Nickel may be the best pure shooter in the draft- Christian Anderson will struggle with physically at the pro level- Jury is still out on Nate Ament- Offensive rebounding needs to be Hannes Steinbach’s calling card to get minutes in the league, because he’s still very much learning the game-

I expect Liam McNeeley to be featured more for the Hornets this upcoming season- Cody Williams has no noticeable signs of growth in his game- Bennett Stirtz will help the Thunder. I have no doubts when he gets in that system that he’ll be productive. The processing is impressive.- Egor Demin will take a leap next season- Hugo Gonzalez is ready for a bigger role with the Celtics- Khaman Maluach is still such a high upside prospect. Has everything you want in an energy defensive big who plays above the rim. Needs NBA reps.- Noah Penda can have a bigger role in the Magic’s second unit next season- Adou Thiero is one of the best young athletes in the league. Period. Needs to learn how to slow down but if he can give consistent defensive production and be viable on offense, he might see a few minutes in the Lakers’ rotation.- Ben Saraf has a long way to go, as does Drake Powell- Labaron Philon Jr should never have fallen as far as he did- Meleek Thomas is a lottery worthy talent- I remain a huge fan of Will Riley- Lester Quinones has my attention- Sergio De Larrea is a rare pure point guard with genuine floor general skills. I hope he sees minutes in Dallas.

Swinging hard and missing on the "Two Timelines" approach killed our future hopes. They were strongly rumored to have really liked Tyrese Haliburton in the 2020 draft, but didn't like the value they were getting to move from pick #2 (ended up using on James Wiseman). Haliburton could have really changed the course of the franchise.

Kuminga is not a bust, but not the player we'd hope for, and that also was detrimental.

Getting Podziemski at #19 was a nice pick and he's a quality contributor. Yaxel also looks very promising but none of these guys will get us close to contending for another championship anytime soon. Moody coming off an achilles and Jimmy Butler off an ACL is crazy.
They've had a good run but they're done.

I'm starting to get conserned with this. He was out of the last game too with the same injury
