My thoughts, likes and dislikes:
1) Booker -- love the talent. With his draft position, he will be given the starting position. Apparently Dallas doesn't trust their development, and no OL should ever stay at this point. Dallas has proven that working for a position doesn't matter, go to a team where you can at least be given a chance to prove yourself. Bass and Hoffman are proof of this, and should be gone next year if they have any true competitive nature.
2) DonoEz -- love the talent. Parsons, Kneeland (who was drafted in the 2nd last year to replace DLaw), SWiilliams (who was drafted in the 2nd), they went out and signed Payton Turner and Fowler (will cost them to get rid of either of these two). Forget the guys they tried to develop. These 5 plus the #2 pick DonoEz make the team (barring trade)......so that means only 4 DT make the team because you are only going to keep 10 DL.
3) S Revel ---love the talent. but starting season on PUP, with Diggs coming off injury, and Bland needing to be paid....and several other ones that were supposedly being developed ????? Maybe this was the best spot for a CB, but the injury issues concern me and less than 200lbs.
4) Blue --- love the talent. Not a bell cow back though due to size. This limits him, although I think he will be good sharing the load. May end up like DVaughn due to his size, or might have to move him to more of a slot/hb to get the ball in his hands more. Do they have a clue how to use him?
5) trade up for a LB -- love the talent.... but not a Mike, so a special teams guy and a backup or attempt at Overshown replacement. Now Murray and/or Sanborn is your Mike and on short term deals. Overshown may never play again, but we are hoping a legit 3 down Sam returns, Liuafu or Clark as your Will.....still not sure how they stop the run.
6) If you call the 6th and 7th rounds developmental guys.........LOVE them, just don't expect too much from them for a few years or ever because they do not seem to trust their development. Toia might end up being a steal. Mafah seems slow, but that might be a little overrated (if) his vision and quickness are excellent.
I like the talent: Dallas seemed to take a BPA approach and stayed true to their board taking the best talent.
I dislike: 6 Guards plus Hoffman trying out for 1 starting guard positions (one already guaranteed to TSmith) and 2 backup positions........then you draft one in the first round which gives him the position regardless....sending a very poor message to the team, IMO.
I dislike: spending the money on Fowler and Turner, and last years #2 on Kneeland, and I assume spending tons $$$ on Parsons.......then using the #2 draft for a position that is pretty strong .I assume Fowler, Turner, Parsons, Kneeland, and DonoEz already on team, and if they keep SWilliams that's 6.
I like: the 7th round. These developmental guys might actually produce one day.
I dislike: injury Cb when you already have injury problems at the Cb position.
Thoughts: I am guessing some think this is a GREAT draft......me, not so much. I see the talent, and maybe with the changing of the coaches, they see what they need to make their version work. I am not seeing it at this time though. Drafting high players that are in groups that seem to already be your strength, and totally forgetting about weaknesses that need to be strengthened doesn't make any sense to me. Throwing high draft picks instead of trusting development just doesn't seem right. It seems pretty obvious how I would attack the Dallas D, if I were an OC -- up the middle and off tackle. It also seems like I would know how to defend against their offense; run blitz front 4 while staying in lanes, double CD, and man/zone the rest -- keeping dbs in front. Dak isn't accurate when throwing over the top and isn't really a threat to run anymore.
Seems like I have seen this for the last 29 years, just more of the same with AWESOME media hyping it as great, even though there are obvious weaknesses that will be exploited -- especially come playoff time.
