It changed drastically . Texas would literally get out recruited by Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma on a consistant basis.
They had plenty; just did not have the coaching
the number of Texas players drafted have not changed greatly for years
ups and downs but not a lot of change
it all comes down to the School being committed to winning and getting the top coaches. That is the formula everywhere
texas could not for one reason or another get the coach they needed

Rivals has Oregon with the top 2025 class (and Georgia with the top one in 2024)
Texas is number 2...splitting hair though.
Same with ESPN recruiting rankings

Really, the top 3 classes are often interchangeable
The teams are usually Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Ohio State and now Oregon

247 has Texas with the top for 2025 an I bet that class gets even better.

Texas has re-entered the era where they will be Top 5 in recruiting almost every year.

In the Mack Brown era (1998-2013) they were routinely in this zone.

In those16 years they were incredibly and consistently strong:
  • 13 times, finished ranked in the top 25
  • 11 times finished ranked in the top 15
  • 7 times in the top 6
  • 2 national Title games
  • 1 National Title
Sark's Texas will match this if he sticks around a while.

its all about coaching. One thing very different in the modern age; at least since the 90's I believe is that now when a HC is recruiting for his staff their being able to recruit is a primary requirement. Before then the HC was the primary recruiter. Not anymore. He could often be the 'closer' but the footwork and preparation are now done by the assistant coaches and coordinators. and more and more I see that the talent will often flow to them when they move on; especially DC's and OC's. And now with the portal, that is even more critical.
