Not sure what should be a good target. Maybe 200. But I know I am working at whatever it eventually will be. Here's what I know. I'm tired of being fat. I used to carry 225 lbs very easy and I wasn't fat. I played at that weight in HS and I was comfortable. Now 28 years or so later, I'm not that much heavier but it has shifted a bit (ok, a lot : ) but I know I don't feel as good as I want to.

First, I'd recommend monitoring fat percentages rather than strictly weight loss. You can find some cheap plastic calipers that do the job nicely. You will find that as you work out that you put on muscle mass along with lossing fat. I've actually lost 20lbs of "weight", but looking at it more closely I lost 30lbs of fat, but put on 10lbs of lean body mass, netting the 20 lbs of weight loss on the scale.

Second, focus your work outs on building muscle mass. Heavier weights and lower reps. This will kick start you metabolism. Muscle burns more calories than fat. Once you start building up your muscles again, then hit the cardio. You will feel better and be able to last longer.

Third, more meals the better. Just make sure they are smaller. I try to eat five meals a day of no more than 300 calories per meal with breakfast being a little larger (400) and the last meal of the day being smaller (200). On days I work out I sometimes add a in a protein shake to help with muscle maitenance. The idea of mini meals is to keep the fire (metabolism) going. You start the fire in the morning with breakfast and you keep adding to the fire every three hours with a mini meal.

And fourth, eat a balanced diet. The nutrition plan that I follow most closely is the Zone. I'm usually at 40-40-20. Forty percent carb, forty percent protein and twenty percent fat. You will need to count calories and monitor what you eat, but don't be affraid to splurge. I usually have one day a week I eat whatever I want. I just know that I need to put a little extra time in the gym.

Just remeber that you need a calorie deficit of 3500 calories to lose 1 pound of fat. Normal caloric intake for daily maintenance for a man is around 2500 calories. You need to shave off 700 calories a day to lose 1lb a week. My goal has been to lose about 2 lbs a week. That way there is less risk in losing muscle weight along with fat. If you lose too much too fast your body will burn muscle as well as fat and that is counter productive to what you really want.

That's why these fad diets don't work. You basically starve your body to lose 30lbs, but your metabolism is still all screwed up and you have no muscle mass to burn calories. So when you go back to eating normally you put the weight back on.

Also, have a reason why you want to lose weight and think of that reason every day. If it's health related, or sports related or just a matter of wanting six pack abs again. Without having that ulitimate goal pushing you through these workouts it becomes less sustainable.

Good luck.

Have you seen and/or considered purchasing P90x? I'm using it right now and I'll tell you this bro it dang sure works.

Today will be day 42 for me and in the first 41 days I've lost 15 pounds, i've dropped from 33% body fat to 25.4 and I've dropped from size 42 pants to size 38 pants.

It works bro, it works.

In case you're interested. They have not only the workouts but they have a nuitrion guide that comes with the program that gives you exactly what to eat, how much to eat it, everything.

It's world class.

Either way bro good luck on your goal and the main thing is to stay positive, don't give up, and keeping pushing forward.

have you read into that acai diet?

I heard that was a huge scam.

It's best just to eat a balanced diet and exercise. All these fad diets don't work at all and aren't good for the long term.

P90x is a terrific program. Its very flexible concerning ability level and strength level. The only drawback is that the program is super time intensive. I only made it about 27 days before I found myself missing 2-3 days a week for one reason or another. It's just hard for me to find the time. 1-1 1/2 hours a day for 6 days a week is pretty tough to manage....at least for me.

I still use all of the workouts, but I only get about 2-3 of them done a week...I've been compromising by getting at least 1 or 2 three mile runs in the mornings before work.

I obviously haven't seen the results like they show on TV, but I feel worlds better and have lost ten pounds (200 give or take a pound).

I need to stop skipping Yoga....but that **** just kills my joints. I'd probably feel better after a while if i just did it...

question for Blind Faith (or anyone who can answer)

I'm 24 years old, 5'11" - at my peak physical condition I weighed about 190lbs (I was lifting then). Too many beers have brought me to 240ish now and I'm sick of it

yesterday I started a diet and I've also been playing soccer about 2 or 3 times a week recently for cardio

here's the diet: morning - high fiber cereal with skim milk; snack - banana or apple; lunch - smoothie meal replacement; dinner - grilled chicken breast with steamed vegetables and some rice

vitamin: Opti-Men taken 3 times a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

is this an okay path?

i'm 27, about 5'10 and round about 175lbs. i'm trying to eat a wee bit healthier at the moment as am starting to get a wee bit of a beer belly. not got any intention of giving up the beer and certainly not planning on a diet so eating a wee bit healthier is definately the only course of action just now. keep active enough, walking about an hour or so most days, play football for an hour most tuesday nights and try to get out hillwalking when i can

I used to be able to eat what ever i wanted and not gain any weight it was awesome. Now i have to be a little more careful. You really don't need to go all out and become a health freak just try to exercise a little and you can still eat and drink what you normally do. Every time you go a little overboard just make up for it with more exercise.
Just going for a 30 min walk daily does wonders

imo its better to eat 5 small meals then 3 larger ones. the 5 smaller ones help keep the metabolism running high where as the 3 meals allow it to slow down then has to play catch up (which from what i've read it isn't that good at, think an Offensive linemen running down a db ((dont you use larry allen that was a fluke)))
