Thanks again for the effort.
It's a tad misleading though.
A player may have started but where they any good.
That would apply to more that one of the above.

I think that if a player has 48 starts (3 years), it shows he was/is a good player. To show he was a good pick for the Cowboys, he needs 48 starts for Dallas, not other teams. And if a player has over 100 starts, he is a really good player. If they have 100+ starts for Dallas, then he was a key player in Dallas Cowboys history.

I know people like Sean Lee a lot, and so do I. But he's missed 3-1/2 years of his career due to injury, only starting 72 of a possible 128 games. He's a good pick, but not really a historic Cowboys player. And I doubt he gets to 100 games started for Dallas. If the Cowboys have a chance to draft LB Roquan Smith, and if Jaylon Smith is finally fully recovered this year, then I would seriously consider moving on from Sean Lee after 2018. Roquan and Jaylon can both play all three positions.

Dallas has no chance at Roquan Smith unless they trade up significantly.

I'm not doubting the number. There's just counting games where he was on the field for the first play, I wouldn't really call that a "start" even if it is technically.

The Cowboys standard offensive lineup for most of the Garrett era includes 2 starting wide receivers and 2 starting tight ends. The fullback is NOT a starter in most games. Cowboys FB Keith Smith only started 4 games in the last 2 seasons. WR Cole Beasley started 10 games. The other 18 games were started by the TE2. I think you are confusing "starting" with meaning he starts instead of Witten, instead of being the starting TE2.

And the "generosity" only really comes into play for Escobar when Hanna was hurt in 2016. If Hanna was healthy in 2016, Beasley and Escobar would not have as many "starts." Hanna is the Cowboys 2nd starting TE, and has been for years - ever since Martellus Bennett and John Phillips left.

The reason Escobar couldn't break into a regular starting role was his inability to block. That is the same thing that will keep Rico Gathers on the bench unless he learns how to block well. It is also a reason that even though he ranked about 8th in catches last year, Witten still received a Pro Bowl nod. Blocking as a TE matters. And having a 2nd starting TE who blocks is key to the Cowboys run offense.

Great list.

Kevin Burnett was a significant player. Starts is very misleading.

There are a few players who started more games for teams after leaving the Cowboys, and Burnett is one of them. It shows he was a good player, but not particularly impactful for the Cowboys. I always wondered why they drafted Bobby Carpenter in 2006 when they already had Burnett. I wondered again in 2007 when they traded up (after trading back) to pick Anthony Spencer. Why didn't Burnett get a real opportunity to play in Dallas? He obviously played many more years in the league as a quality starter for other teams.

Fasano was another quality pick wasted in Dallas. He's started 134 games out of a possible 160 games after leaving Dallas. That doesn't happen if he's not a good player.

I would agree.
Starting for other teams isn't much use to the Boys.

Burnett suffered a terrible knee injury early in Dallas, but when he played, he was really good. Reminded me a lot of Darrin Smith.
