Aside from Jimmy and Bill you can't really credit or blame the coaches for who was drafted that would be on the Jones boys
Not really.

Started with Bob Ackles which is how we got Troy Aikman. But Jimmy won that battle and it was Jimmy until he quit.
Then it was Larry Lacewell.
Then BP came in and brought Ireland and others to revamp the scouting dept.
Then McClay took over for Ireland/Ciskowski.

Jerry may cherry pick a top 10 guy based on uniform sells but he's never been a scout by any means.

The team under Jones has drafted as well as the top personnel guy allowed.
McClay is good.

Jerry has hit some and missed more on some trades and more than some on contracts but no Jones has been a primary talent guy ever.

He was soft. He had some ability but was just a wus.
He had dominated Terrell Suggs in college.
I was sold... but yup he didn't want to play.
BP was his worst nightmare too. No room for soft dudes under BP.

That wouldn't be a fair comparison. The NFL had fewer teams then, so players picked in the 2nd round would be 1st round picks today - even if picked at the same draft location.

The NFL had 14 teams in the 60's, and 26 teams for much of the 70's after adding the 10 AFL teams, and also the Dolphins and Saints in 1970. They expanded to 28 teams in 1977 (Seahawks and Buccaneers). The league expanded to 30 teams in 1995 (Panthers and Jaguars, and then 32 teams in 2001 (Browns and Texans).

Correction:

In the 50's, the NFL was composed of 12 teams, the Giants, Eagles, Colts, Commanders, Browns, Steelers, Packers, Bears, 49ers, Cardinals, Rams, and Lions. The the 60's, the NFL added the Cowboys (1960), Vikings (1961), Falcons (1965) and Saints (1967), bringing them to a total of 16 teams by 1967. Meanwhile, the 60's AFL started with 8 teams, the Raiders, Chargers, Broncos, Chiefs (formerly Texans), Oilers (now Titans), Bills, Jets (formerly Titans), and Patriots. The AFL added the Dolphins in 1966 and the Bengals in 1968, giving them 10 teams by 1968.

During the 60's, the NFL and AFL would draft the same players, and then the players could choose which league to join. When the league merged in after the 1969 season, the modern era NFL had 26 teams. The Steelers, Browns and Colts joined the AFL teams to form the new AFC Conference, and the remaining NFL teams became the NFC Conference. The Buccaneers and Seahawks were added in 1976. The Panthers and Jaguars were added in 1995.

The new Titans (formerly Oilers) and Ravens (formerly Browns) chose new team mascots and names when they moved from Houston and Cleveland respectively in the 90's. The new Browns started playing in 1999, and the new Texans started playing in 2002. Technically, the Browns never left Cleveland. They were "deactivated from 1996 - 1998, and then "reactivated" in 1999. The Ravens were technically an "expansion team" in 1996, although they had all the old Cleveland Browns players and owners. So, in NFL "official" history, the Ravens were the 31st team, not the new Browns. But we all know that's a bunch of horse manure.

Of the original 26 team after the AFL/NFL merger, only the Lions and Browns have failed to make the Super Bowl - although the Ravens (formerly Browns) have won 2 Super Bowls. Neither the Chiefs nor Jets have made a Super Bowl after the merger, but the Chiefs and Jets played in 3 of the 4 Super Bowls prior to the merger, winning 2 of those games, which which helped convince the leagues' owners to merge.

Of the 6 expansion teams since the merger, The Seahawks, Buccaneers and Panthers have appeared in Super Bowls, but the Jaquars, Browns and Texans have not.

4 current teams have never appeared in Super Bowls - Lions, Jaguars, Browns and Texans.

I believe the evidence speaks for itself. Pretty clear demarcation line after Johnson left.

Good data, Thank you for putting that together. Seeing it like that gives it better perspective. Man besides Gurode those Campo years were brutal. Parcels di nt do too great in the 2nd round either.

Again thanks for your work.
