3-4 defense and the new coordinator

I read in one of the threads that the new DC will run a 3-4. How would that work for us?

Osa and Clark at DE? WIlliams in the middle. Or will Clowney play DE(assuming we resign him). EZE at OLB? Justin Houston OLB? Or would Overshown be an OLB?

Any ideas?

It is unknown if he runs the 3-4 like Fangio. He might have his own ideas or a combination of both. If it is similar to Fangio’s, a good secondary is a must.

I don’t think coach Jerry has told him which set to run yet, we’ll have to wait and see.

I wouldn’t over think it. The cowboys played some 3-4ish looks this year. It won’t be a massive change up front in that regard

Were probably going after Sony Styles. Gonna need lbs. I imagine we see a lot of our dts playing DE. Not sure how that'll work.

See i was thinking we're gonna go Styles now for sure, but yeah I can see us taking Mansoor also. Plus his background may make him partial to getting the best CB in the draft.

I would say Osa and Williams at DEs and Clark in the middle. Eze ad Clowney at OLB, Overshown and new LB in the middle.

hopefully we get to draft Downs and Styles.

I would think most NFL DC's now have a nickle base defense, that slot CB is on the field 80% i would guess. but i could be wrong.

He has been in a 4-3 D in Philly.

This. We probably have better 3-4 style linebackers than 4-3 style. In the 4-3 you only need 2 TRUE linebackers (outside linebackers are basically the DE's in our 4-3).

I am hoping we do which to a 3-4. I hope we don't hand the new guy Ebeflus playbook lol

The Cowboys need pass rushers no matter what scheme they run. They have no one who can get double digit sacks on the roster currently.

Hopefully, Ezeiruaku develops into that guy. But, Dallas cannot go into next season hoping he develops into "Him". They need to go find an animal on the outside in a 4-3, 3-4, 5-2, whatever.

Clark played NT in a 34 his first 7 seasons in the league.
Williams played 5Tech defensive end in a 34 his first 4 seasons producing 27 1/2 sacks including his best sack performance of 12 in 2022.
Clowney was originally drafted by the Texans and played in a 34 until he left in FA!
Justin Houston played in a 34 at Jackson state producing 16 1/2 sacks his last season.
Eze is the epitome of a 34 OLB.

Overshown will probably have to play an inside LB/Safety hybrid.
Way too small to play OLB!

Philly is pretty much a 3-4 by today’s standards. Base defense is mostly odd fronts.

They said Fangio played 5 man line so they’ll keep the 3 DTs on the field along with Eze and whoever the opposite end is.
