I've said this a millions times before so I guess one more time won't hurt.

You do know the Dallas Cowbys played football before 1990 don't you? I realize that was before you were born. But still.......

You realize it's much easier for a person to be your favorite if you, ya know, actually got to watch them play live?

Is that really a hard concept for people to understand? I mean I love Roger and Bob Lilly and Drew Pearson and all those greats from the highlights, the NFL Films shows, the Americas Games, and the replays of Classic games. I know they were great. I know they built what the Cowboys have become.

But I didn't see them play live. I didn't grow up getting to watch them play. So I don't have the exact same emotional attachment to those players that guys who grew up watching them did.

It's really that simple.

its hard for someone you didnt see play to be your favorite....just sayin

Exactly. Highlights, re-runs, and NFL Films isn't the same as seeing it live.

He also has been noted for saying Irvin was better than Rice so...........when asked if he had ever seen Rice play the response was, "a couple of times".

Is what it is my friend.

;)

Actually i was suprised he didn't have Miles Austin as #1 since he's already claimed that he's the best WR ever in the NFL. Better than Irvin, better than Rice. Best ever.

Can't really answer this fairly. My appreciation for certain Cowboys has changed over the years.

For example.. Emmitt was far and away my favorite Cowboy for a long time. I got misty-eyed when he broke that rushing record. But since he went to the Cardinals and to the media, he does nothing but annoy me.

I also was a fan of Irvin, but didn't become that big a fan of his until we didn't have him anymore. And when I catch those 90's Cowboys high lights and I see his play, I'm blown away with his intensity, physicality (sp?) and his passion. I'd now say he was my favorite player of that era.

I cried when Emmitt broke the record. I have no shame in admitting that. He is, was, and probably always will be my all-time favorite Cowboy. I saw every single carry of his career as a Cowboy. I watched him gain every single one of those record breaking yards while in Dallas. He's my favorite.

My top 3...

1) Emmitt Smith - As I just said.
2) Jason Witten - I just love everything about Jason Witten. His work ethic, his ability, his attitude, all of it. The guy is a class act and I believe he could have played in any era and been successful. His toughness is simply impossible to question.
3) Bob Lilly - This is the one exception to my top 3 in terms of players making it into the list without having seen them play as it was happening. I've never seen a highlight, classic game, NFL Flim, interview, anything where I wasn't just absolutely in awe of Bob Lilly. Mr. Cowboy was just that.

Folks who just miss the top 3:

Troy Aikman, "Captain America" Roger Staubach, "The Playmaker" Michael Irvin, Darryl "Moose" Johnson, Darren Woodson, Tony Tolbert, Tony Romo, D-Ware, Bill Bates, Tony "TD" Dorsett, Drew "Clutch" Pearson, "The Manster" Randy White, Hollywood Henderson, Everson Walls

I could make a case for putting those guys, in any order, just outside of the top 3 and be pleased with how I put them.

The Manster - I just loved watching the guy play football

Tony Dorsett - Seemed to hit that second gear as soon as he touched the football

Aikman - He always seemed to step up his game in the playoffs.

1. Tony Dorsett - He's the reason I'm a Cowboys fan.
2. Tom Landry - He was the first coach I can recall who spoke openly about his Christian faith.
3. Michael Irvin - Just love his passion for the game and winning. And I like how he was open, honest and candid about his struggles and mistakes and how he serves as an encouragement to all that when life or your own careless and sinful self gets the best of you "Look up, Get up and Never Give up!"

A lot of my faves are from the 80s and those SB winning 90s teams...

Emmitt Smith
Demarcus Ware
Eugene Lockhart - "The Hitting Machine" was one of the few reasons Cowboys could enjoy watching games in the lean years mid-late 80s.

"Honorable Mention"

Dexter Coakley
Michael Downs
Kenneth Gant - "the shark dance" is still my favorite celebratory dance of all time

1. Staubach - A god on the football field.

2. Dorsett - The guy who changed coach Landry's approach to the running game.

3. Aikman - His epitaph should someday read "I don't care about stats. I just want to win."

4. Witten - IMO, the best Cowboy on the roster today (and the year before, and the year before that...)

It's just so predictable that nobody else would have Issaic Holt on their list. Sad, really...
