None of these coaches are going to want to inherit a 60 mil/yr liability at QB. He severely handicaps the team.

Beyond that, this team will never succeed until the Jones family is desecrated and cleansed from this team. What coach wants that on their resume? Garrett was never hired again after his tenure and MM likely won’t either after having the constant Cowboys losses on his resume.

Garrett was hired as an offensive coordinator after leaving here and showed how bad he could be at that without a QB at least as good as Romo and Dak.

3 Mike McCarthy Replacements Cowboys Should Already Circle After Week 2
Story by Devon Platana
9/16/2024

The Dallas Cowboys' 16-game home win streak ended with a devastating 44-19 loss to the New Orleans Saints at AT&T Stadium on Sunday. While several Cowboys can (and should) be blamed for the embarrassing defeat, a good chunk of fingers are being pointed toward head coach Mike McCarthy.

After all, the 2024 season is a crucial year for the team and head coach. The Cowboys are desperately trying to win their first Super Bowl in nearly 30 years while McCarthy is in the final year of his five-year contract and must do whatever he can to secure an extension.

However, based on Sunday's loss, McCarthy's outlook in Dallas is far from promising. Failing to turn the ship around could cost him his job before the season is even over.

With that in mind, here are three potential McCarthy candidates that the Cowboys must consider following Week 2.

1. Bill Belichick
2. Ben Johnson
3. Steve Spagnuolo

Something else in Belichick's favor is he has shown he could salad out on nothing. He never had a bunch of high-priced Superstars. Of course, Brady had a lot to do with that offensively but still.....

Also, one young guy I would keep an eye on is the Saints QC, Klint Kubaich. Jerry has some history with his family. His brother Klein is a long-time national scout for the Cowboys. I think his dad Gary now lives in the Dallas area.
Klint Kubiak is a nothing hire.

If the choice is for a young, innovative offensive coordinator, it should be either Ben Johnson or Bobby Slowik. At most, Kubiak would rank as a far distant third on that list.

I have no doubts about their normal practices. They are all about nepotism and cronyism, AKA guys they are "comfortable with."

Only two of seven(!) coaches in the Jones era have had the gargantuan ego & larger-than-life personality necessary to function as a head coach under eccentric, arbitrary & undermining ownership. Both were successful playing the hands they were dealt (granted, one had a much better hand than the other). Both had wide latitude in personnel and football operations. And - notably - both quit, while the rest were fired.

No doubt Bill B. possesses similar characteristics, and would be highly intrigued by the opportunity to coach in Dallas. And I think it would be a fun ride (as it was when Parcells took a bunch of scrubs to the playoffs). It's not like this franchise could be mismanaged much more than it already has been.

That's all you needed.

Great person, awful NFL coach. Seriously, the nicest dude.

The phrase "just beat your guy" reflects the wisdom of someone who lacks understanding of what they are doing.

Spagnuolo? No.

Ben Johnson would be great but I'd be concerned Jerry will force assistants on him.

Belichick is essentially a lock. Here's why:

1. Jerry is lazy. His two interviews for the last job were Mike McCarthy and Marvin Lewis. McCarthy has the imagination of mayonaise and here's the titles Marvin Lewis has held since the interview:
  • Co-defensve Coordinator, Arizona State
  • Special Advisor, Arizona State
  • Assistant Head Coach, Las Vegas Raiders
Very inspired choices Jerry.

2. Belichick is a big name. Jerry wins the off-season.

3. At 72, Belichick is eyeing Shula's victory record, and Dallas may offer the best opportunity to secure the 26 wins needed over the next three years. He might be open to relinquishing full roster control, allowing Jerry to maintain the facade of being the General Manager.
Well said. Every point!

God....I hate your logic.....but I think your absolutely right. It would be just like the McCarthy hire....everyone was waiting for Jerry to make this incredible magical hire.....that seemed like a lot of thought was put into it. I don't think McCarthy was even on Jerry's radar until McCarthy made a phone call....and they shared a drink....wrote some plays on beer napkins....and ole Jerry was sold.

LOL...McCarthy's offense is the problem. It's literally as sophisticated as some HS D1 programs. If your slot receivers are running the same routes 10 times in a game....You got problems.

Big Mike may have checked out. Maybe.
It has felt like Belicheck will be here next year pretty much from the moment he was "fired". Low hanging fruit for all the pundits and predictors. I think it's happening because it's so, Jerry Jones.
Ben Johnson would be a great step into a fresh philosophy and a chance at landing a young successful HC, like the Rams did with Sean McVey. So, this will never happen in Dallas because, Jerry Jones.
Spagnuolo would be an awful selection. A failed retread HC. Not a headline hire at all. I mean, this is Jerry Jones doing the hiring here...lol

Those who are claiming Bill's nothing without Brady may have forgotten but, while in Cleveland, he had the Browns winning their division. Vinnie Testaverde was his QB. He built a legendary coaching staff. Then, Art Modell pulled the rug out from under the whole team and it died an ugly death. He also led NE to an 11-5 season with Matt Cassel after losing Brady less than 2 quarters into their season opening game. Let's not pretend the guy can't coach.

I dont know man, outside of that one season where the Titans went to the AFC title game and lost to the Chiefs (thanks to King Henry in his prime bulldozing everybody), the Titans never did jack crap under Vrabel and they finally ran him out of town.

Dont know if he is really an upgrade over Fat Mike.

Belicheck is 72 yrs old, this would be his last ride.

Also, he is just 26 wins from passing Shula for the winningest head coach of all time, that might be his motivation and him not really caring about winning any more rings at this point. Even if the Cowboys go 9-8 for three straight years, that would be 27 wins and give Belicheck the record.

With Dak, Lamb, and Parsons, there is a very good chance the Cowboys can win at least 9 games a year, so this is not as far fectched as people are making it seem.

I mean, what’s the worst that could happen with Belichick? At least he knows how to coordinate a defense.
