I couldn't agree more.. JG has done a helluva job, our O moves the ball consistently. They're in the top 5 of most offensive catogories..
Except the most important one. Scoring.

I'm not a Garrett fan, but I completely agree with this. If Mike Iupati the guard slips to us in the 1st we have to take him, then in the 2nd I would prefer the best tackle/center, assuming there's not a player at another position that is ranked higher on the draft board.

I know a lot of people think we shouldn't spend a pick that high, because we have Gurode, but I've thought Gurode has been overrated for awhile. He's great physically, but mentally I'm just not sure he's got it.

I do like the potential of Free, and the coaches seem to like Brewster. The last young offensive linemen the coaches liked was Free, so let's hope the coaches are right again.

We do this, and not only will Garrett look like a genius (three years out maybe due to how long linemen take to pan out), but Romo, the runningbacks, and the receivers will even look better. This is why it's so important to control the trenches.

I hear this alot on this board but I never get it. What is Gurode doing to say that he can't handle this mental part of the position?

Blue star love you man but a couple things. You gotta stop with the daily RW threads. Anbody with two eyes knows it was a horrible trade, we'd all rather have an ascending Hakem Nicks than a mediocre at best RW. Jerry not ready to admit his mistake and move on. RW will be here next year for better or worse apparently.

.

Uhmmm.. Love you too  but I haven't created a RW thread in at least 6 months...

Waiting until someone tries to refute this solid piece of logic.

I can't refute that at all. It carries a lot of truth. I'll just agree to disagree on having Garrett where he is... period.

With the exception of the "most big game wins without choking" category.

I stopped reading right there. Had it been the first point I might know what the other 2 are. Ridiculous.

I can't please everyone and never subscribe to any theory that it's possible to do so. Thanks for clicking though. Please come again. ;)

THere are so many stupid and repetitive RW threads it is really pathetic. Just like the Carpenter threads or get rid of Wade threads.

Ahh well.. just as long as we're all clear that I haven't created a RW sucks thread in a very long time... I couldn't give two ****s about what boards others sound on a frequent basis. ;)

If the offensive line improves, it will be eerily coincidental on how much better a coordinator Garrett becomes.

Yup. JG needs to stay right where he is. If we'd have had a decent kicker we'd likely have been 13-3 again. We're doing alright with the staff we've got.

You're all probably right about JG and I am most likely still probably just a little parched over that game. I'll admit that.

1. Some team sees unrealized potential in Red and takes him off of our hands to make him their next HC.

Possibility: We get a real OC in place and position the offense to take it to the next level.

You have someone in mind or is this a fictional character?

Not saying Garrett is the best OC in the league but I can't name a better one off the top of my head in terms of playcalling. Yeah there are offenses that produced more points and maybe fewer negative plays but a lot of that has to do with their O-Line. As Winkicki said, you fix that and Garrett will suddenly become a much better OC (or words to that effect).

2. Jerry realizes he made a huge mistake and flat out cuts RW11.

Possibility: Kevin Ogletree slides even further up the depth chart and we pickup another future possibility in the mid rounds of the draft.

I don't see Roy being cut but I would like to see him have to earn a starting spot and work hard to keep it. It is his fault that he isn't catching more passes, not Romo's or Garrett's.

As for Ogletree, he'd have to earn a higher spot on the roster an while I think he can I still need to see him do it.

3. Barbie Carpenter continues to perform at the same level.

Possibility: One of our young, fast, talented LBs takes his job in TC.

Carpenter played better this season and improved as the year wore on, but I would still love to see one of the younger guys drive him off the team altogether. I just don't think he is a good fit for this defense and if we could get anything for him in a trade we should do so.

I am all about players competing for playing time and starting roles and not giving those to anyone that hasn't earned it.

On the Garrett point:

I think he improved quite a bit down the stretch in terms of playcalling and exploitation of the opponents' weakness.

I do think it took him a long time to accept this OL + Barber cannot regularly convert in short-yardage situations.

I think he has designed an offense that takes advantage of his QBs strengths to the point that the horrendous weakness in the OL is not exploited by other teams. It is amazing that we average 4.5 ypc with a large OL that can't run block well on obvious running downs. I'm not sure I've ever seen that before.

You're right. He has had his struggles.

But the guy changed down the stretch and actually became a good playcaller.

We weren't a predictable Offense.

I think Jason is developing into a really good offensive coordinator and I wouldn't have said that before the Saints game.

If he calls plays like he did down the stretch for us all season next year than we may win 12 games.

I agree he has gotten better but occasionally he reverts back to form. I still have some serious doubts about his ability to call a game from behind.

 yeah, lets just ignore that and give him a free pass because he is good in all the other categories that don't count...ok...

You mean besides the times he doesn't block anyone on a play, while people run right by him?

He is also responsible for line adjustments and doesn't seem to do a good job to me. I'm not an OL guru though, so I will concede I could very well be wrong.

In the end, Red Jesus is staying where he is and with an improved O-line we'd be even better. Cowboys set a franchise record in yards and were the #2 total offense in the league. In the end with Garrett we had one hell of an offense. Just think what it would be with an improved O-line and either a legitimate WR opposite Austin or Roy Williams finally stepping up. IMO coaching isn't the biggest problem on our team. Jason Garrett called a good game as long as Tony Romo had protection, but fell back to predictable form once the O-line started to fall apart. My only gripe with him would be that I think he panics when things start to fall apart due to a pass rush that is just strolling by our revolving O-line. We have the talent on offense and the playcaller to make us successful, we just need an improvement on O-line and a true threat opposite Austin.

Roy Williams better step up next season and perform, b/c he's not gonna keep his starting job if he can't produce. Both Jerry and Wade have stated that they will not compromise the team b/c of contract numbers and production will determine playing time, this coming season. So if RW can't perform look for him to get benched in favor of better performing WRs. Hopefully this will be motivation for RW to finally catch the balls that hit him in the hands.
