3 ways Cowboys got screwed by the NFL on 2023 schedule

Every team benefits from a bye week regardless of what point in the season it occurs. Of course, contenders like the Cowboys would benefit the most from a late-season bye to refresh and reload before the stretch run. Unfortunately, the NFL pinned Dallas with one of the earliest rest weeks possible in Week 7.

To make matters worse, the Eagles have their bye in Week 10, the Giants wait until Week 13, while the Commanders are a Week 14 bye. All of those sound better than Week 7.

2. Difficult road schedule

While the NFL gave the Cowboys six primetime games, it didn't have the team's best interest at heart when it formulated Dallas' road schedule.

Try wrapping your mind around this, Cowboys Nation: America's Team will play the 49ers, Dolphins, Bills and Chargers all on the road. Of the five non-NFC East teams on the schedule that made the playoffs last season, only one is at home -- the Seahawks in Week 13.

1. Gauntlet from Weeks 12-16

Dallas will play the Seahawks (home), Eagles (home), Bills (road), Dolphins (road), and Lions (home) from Weeks 13-17. The fact Seattle is the easiest matchup in that gauntlet speaks to how difficult it is.

When the sun sets on the 2023 regular season, would anyone be surprised if all five of those teams were in the playoffs? The Eagles and Bills are shoo-ins, and the Dolphins have at least a 10-win roster -- assuming Tua Tagovailoa's health -- after a representative offseason.

I thought the Eagles were trash and their quarterback can’t be considered great after just one decent year. So that game is a “gimme”. The League is looking out for the Dallas Cowboys.

Road schedule is predetermined by 3 or 4 year divisional rotations (we already know most of Dallas’s away games 30 years from now) and Dallas’s record the previous year. Home or Away games being against playoff teams is random pomp and circumstance, not Dallas “getting screwed” by schedulemakers not having their best interests at heart.

While you are, in fact, 100% correct, most of us are here to make up really stupid stuff and then cry about it.

Yeah, nevermind that the Giants have a stretch of 7 of 9 games on the road after their opener which has never happened before or that the Eagles play 7 consecutive playoff teams in a row, 8 of 9 to close the season, and 11 of 17 games against playoff teams overall. Nope, the league clearly zeroed in on the Cowboys for dastardly scheduling. Lol.

Don’t go against the grain. No one cares about the Giants and Eagles. The NFL only does bad things to the Cowboys. Those other teams’ issues are not the point.

Giants have a stretch of 7 of 10 games on the road after their opener. Eagles play non conference games against the winners of those divisions, that is the price of winning the division last year.

If anything, you can call it "bad luck."

Me, I don't mind the difficult schedule. A tough schedule builds a team up to be playoff ready. If you could not make it out of the regular season, you probably were not good enough to win the Super Bowl.

No excuses, good teams win despite scheduling, bye week, injuries and officiating bias.

:angry:deal with it.
Let's Go Cowboys :flagwave:
I agree with everything except the “No excuses” part. After 27 futile years Cowboys fans at least get to enjoy making excuses.

You need to do a better job of hiding your Eagles fandom. Anyone who reads your post can tell you are. Eagles fan. Jig is up.
Oh sure, the most popular reproach, “you are an Eagles fan”. And the new one sneaking in lately “you’re a Niners fan”. Maybe I really do agree it’s fun to make up things to complain about. It could be true that the League has it out for the Dallas Cowboys. The schedule makers could have plotted against the Cowboys. I think you’re an Eagles fan. You seem less than enthusiastic to embrace all the logical conspiracy theories shared on so many threads. I’m suspicious. You don’t whine with sufficient zeal to be a Cowboys fan.

Gantlet.
I dunna believe in conspiracies but when the 'Boys get a harder (strength of) schedule than the Bills and 49ers, I raise me voice against this.

The toughness of the schedule means nothing more than a turd. We have no idea how good teams will be in May. Injuries, and under and overachieving teams will render the predictions no better than a mock draft.

I think 11 wins win the East this year and 9 wins will probably get you in the playoffs this year. An injury to the quarterback (Hurts,Dak, and Jones even) will cost a playoff spot. Last season the NFC East benefited by playing the NFC and AFC South.
