3 ways Cowboys got screwed by the NFL on 2023 schedule

The NFCE is a tough division for sure. We will likely beat each other up and split a lot of series. 10 or 11 wins might be enough to win the east.

I don’t think we are “screwed” by the schedule. Tough to win games in this league period. The Cowboys cannot afford to relax. Enjoy the bye week and try and earn another break by being the number 1 seed.

Other than that— prepare for all out war week in and week out. Take no prisoners and offer no excuses. Get it done or die trying

Gantlet.
I dunna believe in conspiracies but when the 'Boys get a harder (strength of) schedule than the Bills and 49ers, I raise me voice against this.
Who and where the teams play is predetermined based on division and record, every single year. The only parts of the schedule that the schedule makers get to decide is the order in which the games are played and the days/times/networks they are played on. The League has software that spits out all the possible schedule permutations and then the powers that be pick what they think is the "best" one, whatever that means. I kind of doubt that "screws the Cowboys" is among their deciding criteria. It's not a perfect process but I think it's probably about as fair as it can get. Fans are gonna fan, though, no matter what the League does, find reasons to feel sleighted and get their boxers in a wad.

I don't recall ever worrying about the schedule. We don't know how good these teams will be. There will also be surprise teams both good and bad.

Who expected the NFC to be so weak last year? On top of that the NFCE played the AFCS.

Every team benefits from a bye week regardless of what point in the season it occurs. Of course, contenders like the Cowboys would benefit the most from a late-season bye to refresh and reload before the stretch run. Unfortunately, the NFL pinned Dallas with one of the earliest rest weeks possible in Week 7.

To make matters worse, the Eagles have their bye in Week 10, the Giants wait until Week 13, while the Commanders are a Week 14 bye. All of those sound better than Week 7.

2. Difficult road schedule

While the NFL gave the Cowboys six primetime games, it didn't have the team's best interest at heart when it formulated Dallas' road schedule.

Try wrapping your mind around this, Cowboys Nation: America's Team will play the 49ers, Dolphins, Bills and Chargers all on the road. Of the five non-NFC East teams on the schedule that made the playoffs last season, only one is at home -- the Seahawks in Week 13.

1. Gauntlet from Weeks 12-16

Dallas will play the Seahawks (home), Eagles (home), Bills (road), Dolphins (road), and Lions (home) from Weeks 13-17. The fact Seattle is the easiest matchup in that gauntlet speaks to how difficult it is.

When the sun sets on the 2023 regular season, would anyone be surprised if all five of those teams were in the playoffs? The Eagles and Bills are shoo-ins, and the Dolphins have at least a 10-win roster -- assuming Tua Tagovailoa's health -- after a representative offseason.

Welp, this was super-dumb. Byes start with week 5, week 7 isn't terrible. The reams Dallas plays on the road have absolutely nothing to do with how they put the schedule together, they're predetermined. And what does "a representative offseason" mean?

Your schedule is your schedule and what we think today about the teams we play will likely be different when we actually get to that game. Case and point the Super Bowl Champion Rams from the prior year. Some teams will be better than what we think on paper, while others will be worse.

The Cowboys will be in the mix at the end of the season, but if we're worried about a 3 game stretch in the regular season, what do we think the playoffs bring?

Oh sure, the most popular reproach, “you are an Eagles fan”. And the new one sneaking in lately “you’re a Niners fan”. Maybe I really do agree it’s fun to make up things to complain about. It could be true that the League has it out for the Dallas Cowboys. The schedule makers could have plotted against the Cowboys. I think you’re an Eagles fan. You seem less than enthusiastic to embrace all the logical conspiracy theories shared on so many threads. I’m suspicious. You don’t whine with sufficient zeal to be a Cowboys fan.
Read your last 10 posts….it has the tone of a brain dead Eagles fan. Not a 49ers fan. They are pride of their fandom they don’t have to pretend to be something they’re not. This is your chance to man up and admit your fandom.

Road schedule is predetermined by 3 or 4 year divisional rotations (we already know most of Dallas’s away games 30 years from now) and Dallas’s record the previous year. Home or Away games being against playoff teams is random pomp and circumstance, not Dallas “getting screwed” by schedulemakers not having their best interests at heart.
I always hate to agree with an Eagles fan, but 30 years of failure has some Cowboys fans grasping at straws to deflect from the responsibility the team and it’s ownership owns

Why do we watch the games? Is it not to see the better teams playing each other?

There are some fans that only watch the Cowboys to see them win.

Tough schedule helps develop tough team.

The Cowboys get 3 of the final 4 on the road. Which is probably where they'll be playing any playoff games.

Goodell is behind this. If not for him, the Cowboys would have 8 rings by now.

Yes, week 7 is not the best week, but I think they consider the after Thanksgiving game another mini bye week for us.
The Cowboys play a week later on Thursday night v. Seahawks Nov. 30th (Thankgiving on Nov. 23rd).
The "mini-bye week" occurs after Seattle; the next game for Dallas won't occur until Dec. 10th...Sunday night v. the Eagles.

Thanks for that, not looked at the dates of the games.
