300 to 500 CD player?

I know iPods and mp3s are convenient for storage and such, but I actually like CDs. I still buy them. I like to read the CD jacket to find out who is involved in the projects.

I gave my iPod to my baby sis. I bought a 2gb memory card for my phone, because it holds media files. If I want to listen to music, I just transfer music files from my 'puter to my phone.

I will still buy CDs, i just have too many of them and currently we live in a very small apartment and they just take too much open space. If i can load my music into an mp3 player, i can put the CDs in their cases out of the way in the closet. I can always bring them out if i want to look at the CD jacket.

Oh Ok.

thought you were getting rid of them.

I'm a bit of a media packrat. hard to throw my old vinyls, VHS tapes, music tapes away. Can't believe CDs are probably on their way out too.

I love vinyls and actually own quite a few. I don't think i will ever get rid of them. I've actually been adding to my collection.

My iAudio can be hooked up to a cassette tape player and it will convert the music from the tapes to mp3 files. I have a lot of tapes so I've been converting them slowly over the last year, i just haven't had the time to do them all yet.

The fact that CDs are on their way out already makes me feel really old and i'm not even 40 yet.

I remember my first experience with CDs. My friend was trying to play me a song from a CD but couldn't find the sleeve and didn't remember if the song was #3, #5, etc...He spent a few minutes skipping songs but for some reason couldn't find it. I suggested to him that maybe he should try the 'B' side :. He has never forgotten that and still teases me about it.

  1. You should be able to store 500 CD's worth of songs on a 30GB ipod and still have plenty of room to spare.
  2. They have a cable that plugs into your ipod headphone jack that connects to the back of your stereo receiver.
  3. Keep a copy of the songs on the PC as well.
If you need any help or questions. I have done some "stuff" with ipods ;)

wouldn't you have to convert your cds to mp3 format?

No. You just push the CD into the bottom of the ipod player... one by one.

Another thing with an iPod is that you can take it in your car and listen to it on your car radio. My son does this so I don't know what accessorie you have to buy to do this, but you can do it.

So, you can listen to music in your home or car...

You can do that with any mp3 player as long as the car stereo has an aux jack.

I would need to upgrade my car stereo system first for that but i'm still driving a 1995 Nissan 200 SX and it still has the factory issue stereo in it without the aux jack. :laugh1:

I will have to invest in a new car first. However, my iAudio has a connection that plugs in the car cig lighter and i can play my music through the existing system, which only has one working speaker at this point.:

you don't even need that, say if you have an older car, you can just get a cigarette jack that plays your music off of FM wave-lengths

they mostly run around 50bucks

Does it still have a cassette player? You can get an adapter that plugs in to the mp3 player and plays the music through the cassette deck. I had one for my old car and it worked great.

I have one for my mp3 player and it sucks. I need to upgrade my car stereo.

No, it has a CD player thank the lord.

In my experience:

I like that I can have master copies of my music library.
  • on hard drive of pc
  • on ipod that can go and connect at more than one place(ie. car, home stereo, your pc or someone else's pc
For me, the wireless ipod through the FM is rather spotty. Depending where you drive it can snap, crackle, pop on you.
  • For now, I prefer the solid physical connection with a wire
  • I use the cassette player with the wire in my car

My wife and I are trying to free up some space in the living room and would like to purchase one of those CD players that you can put 300 to 500 CDs in. This way we can just pack the CD holders and get rid of the shelving unit that is taking a lot of space.

My question is two fold. One, do any of you have/had one of these and do they have any drawbacks. Two, if you were to recommend one, which one would it be.

Preferably it would be one which allows us to organize our CDs by genre or other kind of organizing system so we can access specific CDs relatively quickly. We are willing to spend around $300.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a Sony CDP-CX300 MegaStorage 300-CD Changer. I've had it for roughly 8-9 years. It works fine IMO, lots of functions for categorizing etc.

I picked it up new on ebay for less than $140. Amazon has them for $149.

Hey, I'm asking if the files need converted before downloading them.

Those things DO suck. I got sick of mine and went ahead and bought a new receiver. It has three ways to directly play your ipod, garmin navigation, plays DVD's, CD's.....all for $350.

It would have cost me $175 just to buy an ipod interface to directly play my ipod through the stock stereo.

You get Itunes software. I actually prefer windows media player to do this.

Put your cds into the computer, rip them to your computer. Add to your Itunes library, hook up your ipod to your computer and sync the library to your computer.

However if he wants to put 300-500 cds on his computer that can be pretty time consuming ripping each cd.

If you are really into sound quality then it would be a good idea to get the mega-cd player. If you don't have an ear that can distinguish the differences in sound quality between a cd and an mp3 then go with the iPod.

Thanks for the info poke.

Somebody from this forum PM'ed me last night and offered to ship his 300 CD Changer to me and all i have to worry about is the shipping charges. I'm not sure what brand but said he bought it a couple of years ago for the same reason i stated on the original post but now uses his ipod for everything so doesn't need it anymore.

It was an incredibly generous and kind gesture, which i accepted of course.

Who knew being a Cowboy fan would have these kind of perks:)

Thanks everyone, for all your suggestions.
