3rd and Short - Empty Backfield

They wont, Linehan likes to do that. I recall many Lions fan complaining about the same thing in their game vs Baltimore last season

Yeah, I'm glad on the game winning drive when it was 3rd and short they ran a draw to Murray up the gut

I hated that play call. I mean it seems like it makes it easier for the defense. You have more guys which doe/n't necessarily mean more options. That means more guys in the same space including extra defenders in coverage.

The best option is to have some kind of second wave of pass pro with a Rb that can possibly slip out and make a play in a dump pass... Not to mention, keep the defense honest by presenting the threat of rushing.

You have to ask yourself if that last receiver is worth giving up the threat to run, in my mind with this line, it is insane to put a 5th reciever over a HB. One moment of hesitation with the LB's and safties having to accout for the run is more than worth that Last wideout.

Especially when you have a RB that can catch well too.

On that play I was was thinking why don't they leave Murray in and run the ball. Even if he doesn't get the first down he would have probably moved it close enough to the first down marker to go for it on 4th down, based on where we were on the field..

Very good point you make. One thing that's been JG's biggest weakness is situational football.

it was a bad call, but one I can forget about since we won

The play call caused us to have to come back at the end. You score a TD on that drive, you are in much better shape than giving it back to them only up 3. We all knew the defense was about to let them march right down the field with ease.

And why not something quick? Romo throwing across the field in tight coverage near the sideline is not an ideal pass at all. The second he threw that, you knew it was not going to be caught. Just a terrible play call and terrible execution.

It's not so much the formation, but there has to be a higher % pass there in that particular spot in the game. A WR screen/hitch, an underneath route off a rub...something of that nature.

Murray hasn't had a rushing touchdown in a long time. I don't know if that's happenstance or it means something.
