OkRomo …average
Dak below average.
A great QB is the only that will help overcome this dysfunctional organization. We’ll never know because Jerry puts no stock in the position.

Well, here's this...Yup, you can't assign blame properly until you actually see the routes and who was or wasn't open.
Great teams need to be solid in all phases, not just the a great O line or WRs, you need all of that. Plus the staff. No one wants to hear this tired excuse anymore. We've seen Dak with the best WR1/WR2 combo in the N.F.L. We have seen Dak with a top five offensive line in years past. And we have seen Dak with a league leading rusher.
And we have seen Dak when the Cowboys defense put on a brilliant performance for 3 quarters against the 49ers in their second playoff meeting. The end result is always the same.
Made me think of DK Metcalf as soon as I started reading your point.Whether a shorter WR would've caught it or not isn't my point, a taller WR is always a bit more effective on that type throw. Mike Evans, Metcalf, PIttman, Higgins, Nico Collins, any of those guys catches that easily, much more easily than Turpin. Turpin is 5-9. Gotta turn off your height bias!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The defender was right there.Take it from a 5'7" guy who has caught his share of over the shoulder sideline passes in which every defender I ever played against was 3-5 inches taller than me. Height simply is not the issue UNLESS the defender is right there to contest the catch. If the QB drops it over the outside shoulder (which Dak did) it's just you and the sideline. The tricky part is making sure of the footwork as you bring the ball in. I think that's what crossed Turpin up. He was hyper focused on his feet when he should have been focused on the ball. Taller guys might get hands on the ball at a higher point but they also have the issue of a longer stride when attempting to get feet down. If Turpin handles the catch cleanly he probably takes 3 or 4 quick steps in bounds. Frankly I think what he should have done is given it the "dead leg" and let the ball come down in the bread basket while he was falling out of bounds. But either way he has to make that catch is the bottom line.
Yup. That is my biggest problem w/ the play. Very poor choice of play selection. That ball did not fall out of the sky and hit him in the hands - it fell out of the sky and him in the face mask.
But I have zero issue with the quality of the pass; it was as fine a pass as to be expected. My issue is making that pass to that receiver at that time.
First, you are right about NFL receivers routinely make that catch. I think 99 out of 100 is a little much, but certainly more often than not. Turpin is nit Calvin Johnson, Aiyuk, Dez Bryant or Michael Gallup. He’s a diminutive receiver with iffy hands and probably does not make that catch more often than not.
Second, with the first point in mind, that’s a low probability pass. It had less chance of success than failure.
Finally, given the aforementioned, it was stupid to make that pass on 3rd and 10. Failure then puts the game on a single play way behind the chains at 4th & 10.
Ultimately, the ball was in Dak’s hands and he made the decision where to go with the ball. And I’m sure the Niners defense played coverage to influence making that throw. But it still was the wrong decision.
If Turpin can’t make that catch not only should he not be out there but he shouldn’t be in the league.3:20 left - 2 minute warning in your pocket.
No TO’s fine
88 nowhere to be found
Dak should have been pick 6’d on the first throw / then he throws a duck out of bounds followed by a high risk - like under 4% chance of competing to a diminutive Turpin - good pass but you’re asking a circus basket catch with tip toe room - where’s the middle slant ? Where’s the creative middle screen ?
Ferguson ? ( overrated btw )
And finally for his last act throwing a prayer to a backup WR with 4 catches career wise to his name.
Key takeaway - CD the stat padder couldn’t get open - nowhere to be found !
Dak sucks
McCarthy too
Season over
If Turpin can’t make that catch he shouldn’t be on the field in a tame winning drive. That ball did not fall out of the sky and hit him in the hands - it fell out of the sky and him in the face mask.

The elephant in the room is that unlike some other organizations, Cowboys Qbs are judged almost solely on their playoff success.Romo was much above average to anyone with football knowledge
Dak is too WHEN he is on.
AVERAGE is Dime Daniels and Geno and company.
below average is those like Richardson and Watson
It's okay brother.. We men of reason can disagree without acrimony. It's called adulthood.. a quality sadly in short supply around here most days. The defender was right there.
We are not going to agree on this!!!!!! Doesn't happen too often
Not necessarily. He shouldn’t be running that route at his size. He was very well covered by a DB that was definitely bigger. Add to it he was against the sideline having to make a basket catch and try to stay inbounds. His forte is ala Wes Welker, working the middle and in space. If Turpin can’t make that catch he shouldn’t be on the field in a tame winning drive.
to those saying Turpin would not have come down the ball in bounds have a look. And no the defender did not have a shot at this ball. If he catches this cleanly and hits the jets he might score because the defender is off balance and probably can't make the tackle.
Notice also that the safety is nowhere in the picture so the "Dak threw it into double coverage" crowd can go ahead and pipe down too.

That’s just an excuse I’m sorry he’s a professional football player. Turpin has been making that catch since high school……Not necessarily. He shouldn’t be running that route at his size. The only reason he landed out of bounds is the ball hit him in the facemask and he adjusted his path to chase the carom. If he makes a clean catch he already had both feet in and a good yard or more between him and the sideline. It looks to me like he misjudged the flight of the ball and jumped when he didn't have to. That's what made the ball hit him in the head. If he stays on the ground the ball comes down right in front of him pretty much in stride. Maybe he would have had to slow down just a little but the stop and jump broke his momentum and put his head in the way of the ball. In no way am I saying it was "easy" but I am absolutely saying a professional catcher of passes should make that catch.Yeah, but a still shot doesn't take into account momentum and vector. The video itself shows him landing partially out of bounds.
Despite Dak's struggles earlier in his career with deep passes, he throws a nice deep ball now. If we ever got a legitimate deep speed threat - Cooks really isn't it - Dak could do a lot with him.Dude that pass to Turpin was an absolute dime. He didn't need no circus catch to make that. NFL receivers make that catch 99 out of 100 times. The ball fell out of the sky right into his hands. Criticize Dak away for all the other things that went wrong in that game but that pass was great. At some point we need to ask the other guys on the team to do their jobs too. Especially the offensive line.
Said no one ever.I thought Dak was Joe Montana out there!
