When the team was winning Super Bowls in the mid 1990s, Jones looked at every option to keep the momentum going. If that meant adding Deion Sanders on a massive contract, he was willing to open his wallet. If it meant adding a veteran quarterback in Bernie Kosar when Troy Aikman was injured in 1993, he went and signed him. The moves paid off then, but Jones has pulled back since some moves went south.

Dallas made some big trades this offseason, but it has been a few years since Jones was willing to bring in players with resumes like Stephon Gillmore and Brandin Cooks. Some of the trades Jerry has made throughout his time have gone well, but a good amount failed.

1. Terry Glenn (Best)

2. Amari Cooper (Best)

3. Charles Haley (Best)

4. Hershel Walker (The Best)

5. Joey Galloway (Worst)

6. Roy Williams (The Worst)

6 is painful cause I believe Arizona got bolden for a 3rd? Or gave him up for a 3rd. Jerry had this stupid obsession over bringing a Texas player over to Dallas

#4 was without a doubt the best trade in cowboys history if not NFL. I almost said Deion and the realized he was a FA pick up.The best in cowboys history.

No, Jerry Jones was the GM...don't rewrite history. Jerry held the job and was part of selections, just as today.

Keep Jerry rah rahs out of the thread...

Discuss topic...or sit the bench. Let's just see the values involved.
His point is personnel was Johnson's territory, all Booger did was agree to the deals and sign off on them.

Galloway was 29 when he traded 2 firsts? And then 3 picks for a 27 year old Williams. Both were ridiculous and really set the team back.
Age and production levels weren't the same then as today, and attachment to cap functions.

Darrel Green played to age 42. Unless probably a QB will not similarly occur today. Players are just too advanced now.

That may be true, but none of those things happen without Jerry signing off on them, regardless of what some fans want to think. Jerry wrote the checks, Jerry had final approval or veto.

The only thing that made the Joey Galloway trade bad was Galloway only getting to play one game with Troy Aikman. He tore his ACL and his very first game with the Cowboys. Aikman was injured later that season and was released after the season. That left Galloway with a terrible QB situation. He ended up having three straight 1000 yard seasons, including almost 1300 yards with 10 TDs in 2005 when we traded him to Tampa. In 2003 with the Cowboys he did average a career best 19.8 per catch.

That wasn't really the point. Jerry didn't actually make the Walker or Haley trade. At that time Jerry handled the financial side only.

Pretty similar today...only he made the contract negotiations and wasn't a silent participant. Jimmy didn't everything...in the real world. Responsibility goes to the top as does credit.

The discussion is upon values of those players. Not another shot at Jerry. I was not nor will be in a Jerry Jones addition beyond topicly directed. Keep topic on seeing player selections starting above. I don't buy the validation beyond the OP topic. Let's see how player selections went with those players.

Not instead a string of none named excuses that hide behind Jerry, Dak, or Elliott.

All of that is not this thread...leave a Jerry debate for a thread upon just that. Discuss some football and leave the ton of name calling somewhere else. This discussion is about the value of a group of signed players.

Not chunking rocks at Jerry or at me for starting a thread that included the name of Jerry Jones...

As much interactions as Jerry had before even purchasing the team, with San Francisco. That team took him and showed him the ropes before the purchase. Don't for a minute think or state he was a silent partner. This is NOT about hero worship.

That's still not worth 2 firsts and they could've found that in the draft. What made the Galloway trade bad was not only his age and the cost but the fact that they had a slew of needs at that time, not just a need at receiver and then the team fell apart anyway. The entire roster was a mess and Jerry picks that time to make a splash when they basically have no shot at winning anything.

Then at that time wouldn't it make more sense to get 2 20 year olds who can go on to long careers.

Galloway was a last gasp attempt by Jerry to try and boost the offense for one more run.

It's hard to judge that trade because between his injury and Aikman's injuries and subsequent retirement we never got to see how it would have played out.

I do see the logic behind putting it in the worst trade category, as two firsts is a steep price to pay for a last gasp, but still....
