I've said it all along, I'm not in favor of overpaying any QB or any other player. This "it's their market value" is just an excuse to overpay players while destroying teams.

Apparently you missed both points. First the standard time to extend a QB is when they have 2 years left on their deal especially when you cannot franchise them. It is actually the most common time to do it. Second, they were referring to the fact that the amount Diggs makes, 4.3m, will be nothing compared to what he will make under whatever deal he signs. The cap hits will likely be manageable but his AAV will be far far higher than 4.3m (and he will likely see a large chunk of that on day 1).
On Diggs I agree. I was taking it too literally. But not on Dak.

Most players, including QBs, get an extension with 1 year left on their contract unless there is a 5th year option. The article talked about not wanting Dak to play out his last year. This isn't his last year.

Like I said before, Dak already got a restructured contract. If they wanted to extend Dak this year, they would have done that instead of the restructure. As an extension already includes a restructure.

I literally said aside from last season. Matt Stafford won a championship leading the league in interceptions….is he getting worse?
Matt Stafford got the ring and from all appearances will never get another. It was a confluence of things that got him there that Dak ain't going to see

Hmmm.what things got him there?
The team around him. Stafford is almost a carbon copy of Tony Romo. I think Romo was better because he was more mobile, but never had the team.

With our defense I think we have a legit shot this year if we surround our QB with talent. It's what the Eagles did, right? We're close.

4 Cowboys who are next in line for contract extensions

With the 2023 NFL draft arriving in less than a week, the focus for many teams has been preparing for the biggest offseason event the league holds. Yet that hasn’t stopped the Dallas Cowboys from handling a little bit of other business for their future.

The team made some financial moves recently when they picked up the fifth-year option for wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and announced right tackle Terence Steele had signed his second-round tender as a restricted free agent. Lamb’s option will guarantee him over $17.9 million in 2024, while Steele’s tender pays him $4.3 million for the upcoming season. Both moves were expected, and both are players the Cowboys will continue to attempt to sign to long-term deals.

Dallas shouldn’t be done working extensions this offseason as there are a few candidates who the team would be wise to lock up now rather than waiting.

WR CeeDee Lamb
CB Trevon Diggs
Center Tyler Biadasz
QB Dak Prescott

Interesting perspective and thoughts about Dak. I agree with the thinking, but just not sure he is the right QB to hitch our wagon too like that.
Me feeble and tenuous apologies for referring to you as a Dak fan boy. it was the port wine and purple haze doing the talking.

There's really only one QB in the NFL who has earned top pay - Mahomes. 6 seasons into his career and he has 5 straight AFC championship games, 3 super bowl appearances with 2 wins.... No one comes close. Not Stafford, Hurts, Dak, Jackson, Murray, Allen, or Burrow. None of them.

I know it's a pipe dream and will never happen, but NFL pay needs to be results based. Does Dak really intend to get better as he keeps saying over and over? He's getting the same pay whether he goes 1-16 or 16-1, so where is the incentive to actually keep the promise and do better?
