Still pixxes me off watching it ........
I sat speechless for a long time after that play. I was livid.
What irks me is that is there was definite grey area about the call at the time regarding the football move aspect. So what did the nfl do in the off season? They closed the loop by indicating you could not make a football move while falling. And they did that solely to make that particular call the right one in hindsight.
Four years later they reverse course. That play may well have been a catch today, but I’m annoyed that the nfl changed the rule immediately after to shut the door on it being a catch.
Saw an article recently by Bob Sturm.
We gave up 9 third down completions in that game and almost as many as 2016 playoff game against the Packers. We simply could not get off the field.
It's the reason there is hope for the future. We really had no shot back then, now, even if we are struggling on offense, we can stay in games and give our offense a chance.
Still - we've had some bad losses in our history but this was awful because we had a playoff run taken away from us and denied Romo and Dez a chance for a Championship game and Super Bowl.
To this day I just wish my boy Dez didn’t try and “reach” after the catch. He had it, and it was going to be 1st and goal anyhow.
But boy did we get robbed on that one, regardless.
Notice the elbow......
I poured a double.
Even worst, it robbed Romo of a chance he never got again........
That play (or at least, the overturn of the call on the field) changed more teams' history than just the Cowboys. It led to a rule change which affected the entire league for three seasons before it was finally fixed.
The 2014 rule said a player who took steps while falling was making a football move. Since that's exactly what Dez did, the rule was changed a few months later requiring the player to be upright. This rule change in effect justified the overturn. After many controversial calls from 2015-17, the rule was changed back before this season, allowing a player to make a football move -- and thus complete the catch process -- while falling.
Anybody remember stans reaction in the South Park total recall episode when the customer service rep says they are doing a total recall?
And Kyle too when Stan tells him what the rep said?
Quit picking at the scar
Possibly. But what is rarely talked about is the fact that had we scored, Aaron Rodgers still had almost 5 minutes to return the favor.
if Demarco Murray doesn't fumble the ****** ball..
if Clay Matthews gets called for roughing Romo..
if the defense could make one flipping stop..
I was at this game... it was a quiet ride home across Wisconsin with my wife (Packers fan).
Momentum was ours if that was a TD. I guess we will never know.
You're right and our D hadn't stopped him all game......he only needed FG range
The game didnt end there. There was still game played after that call.
If it were last possession of the game, then different story.
20+yrs of would be, should be, can be, if that, if this.
Right much like the “ Catch” in 1981 most don’t talk about Danny Whites fumble in the ensuing possession about midfield with almost 50 seconds left which could have easily set up the winning field goal.
Sometimes destiny has a way of finding itself.
I would have asked for a divorce immediately after the game.
Angriest I ever was and still am over a call
