400-carry RB vs. RB who rested all year

I think that is the question Jerry/Stephen have to be asking themselves about Demarco vs. AP. You cant really predict injuries, but statistics dont lie about RBs coming off 400+ carries. They are much more likely to suffer a precipitous decline. And given that Romo's window is 2-3 years, I dont think the age difference (Demarco 27; AP 30) will be the deciding factor. It's who has the better chance of being a special back for 2-3 years, not 5.

My vote is neither. Get a cheap rookie RB in 1st/2nd and use the money you save on defensive free agents...

It would rate the risk with either Murray or Peterson as about the same. Murray is younger, but was significantly overworked and 2014 was his 1st season to play all 16 games. Peterson is older, but has had plenty of time off and should be refreshed. I can't prove it but I think a lot of RBs in history might have had a few extra years in them if they had taken a year off around age 30.

Im kinda for going in a different direction as well, but it seems that the organization has changed its tune somewhat to wanting Demarco back. Just hope we dont way overpay. Im thinking 6m per for 4 yrs is plenty.

When you have a chance to acquire a special talent, you do it. The last time Peterson played, he was the best RB in the league.

In 2013 Peterson was 5th in Rushing Yards and 4th in TDs

Murray only had 140 less yards and 1 less TD than Peterson with 60 less carries

AP is not available. Murray is. I do not think Dallas will wait on the AP situation to resolve itself and risk the lose of Murray.

It depends on cost.

I had Peterson in our fantasy league in '13 and he was good but not special like he was in '12.

There's probably some tread left on the tire, but I wouldn't overpay for him.

Just because you sat out a year doesn't mean you'll be better. I've seen guys get better and i've seen guys never be the same again. Look at Rolando McClain. Constantly having nagging injuries. Its from the time off from football.

And isn't he referred to as a physical freak?

I don't think Murray showed any ill effects during the season with the number of touches. He had over 120 yds against GB and that was his 18th game of the season. I don't understand how injuries that didn't exist are supposed to carry over 9 months later after rest and training.

Most of the time an athlete doesn't back up a career year with another career year. But you don't know which one was his career year until his career is over. Murray may or may not have had his best year. It may be this year. I wouldn't want to risk missing out on that over a little more money. How many times has Brady thrown for 50 TDs? It doesn't mean he should be cut.

It's the age old question of 2010 Marion Barber versus LaDanian Tomlinson with the Jets.

I vote neither, address the position in the draft, and use the 8 million in salary cap space on the pass rush.

If Murray isn't resigned that's what I would like to see.

It doesn't have to be either or

Dallas has the money and cap space to sign Dez, Murray and a top DE. They can draft a DT and be a long way to fixing the pass rush.

That will help the secondary as much as the running game helped Romo last year

People can blame Murray for the GB with his fumble I guess. I blame the defense that left an injured, immobile QB stay clean.
