The 49ers have once again lost a player to a surprise retirement.

Anthony Davis, a 25-year-old offensive tackle who was the 11th overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft, said in a statement that he is retiring from football.

“After a few years of thought, I’ve decided it will be best for me to take a year or so away from the NFL. This will be a time for me to allow my Brain and Body a chance to heal. I know many won’t understand my decision, that’s ok,”

That was my first thought too!
That team has gone from contender to dumpster fire in record time.

Is this due to Harbaugh leaving?

Is it a rebellion against the new coach?

Is it a rebellion against 49er management?

Three teams lost their starting OTs before camp even started. Giants lost Beatty, Broncos lost Clady, and the 49ers lost Davis. And the Bucs starting OT Dotson wants more money.

And the Cowboys drafted 2 OTs (green and Gibson) and picked up Collins as an undrafted free agent.

Seems like OT may be a very valuable position this year. I wonder what Collins, Green, Free, Gibson, and Weems would fetch in the open market right now for a trade with a desperate team. Just wondering :) not proposing. I just hope the Cowboys can stay healthy this year. It is already tough luck for numerous teams.

It would literally be impossible to have a worse offseason than the 49ers have had.

Lose Harbaugh due to a power struggle. Hire a complete yes man in Tomsula to replace him.

Lose your two defensive cornerstones and leaders in Justin Smith and Patrick Willis to retirement.

Lose two young building blocks in Chris Borland and Anthony Davis to retirement.

Lose Frank Gore, Mike Iupati, Chris Culliver and Perrish Cox in free agency,

A total disaster. Couldn't happen to a better team.

They do have a 'real bona-fide' GM running the show in SF. Aldon Smith getting arrested again for the umpteenth time and AJ Jenkins catching lightning in a bottle with the Cowboys would be a hilarious way to ice the cake.
