PFT's short article titles are catchy but not always accurate. Davis states he's leaving for a year or two. That's a little less permanent sounding than retirement. "49ers' Anthony Davis takes leave of absence at age 25" or "49ers' Anthony Davis takes furlough at age 25" aren't as catchy but more accurate in this case.

I think he will return to the NFL. He's very young for an offensive lineman. Seemingly everything depends on whether his desire to play supercedes his concern for his long-term health. It wouldn't surprise me that the concussion(s) are really troubling him. There's nothing like having your brain slosh around inside your skull to make you take notice and reflect on what's most important in life.

You can say this about Davis. He's saying that he's leaving the NFL (albeit for an undetermined length of time) and doing so. That's more respectable than someone threatening to permanently retire and never seriously meaning to enforce the threat.

I went to a Niner forum to get some thoughts and opinions about what is going on there and saw this pic

It would literally be impossible to have a worse offseason than the 49ers have had.

Lose Harbaugh due to a power struggle. Hire a complete yes man in Tomsula to replace him.

Lose your two defensive cornerstones and leaders in Justin Smith and Patrick Willis to retirement.

Lose two young building blocks in Chris Borland and Anthony Davis to retirement.

Lose Frank Gore, Mike Iupati, Chris Culliver and Perrish Cox in free agency,

A total disaster. Couldn't happen to a better team.

Blood bath.

Love the "Mount Rushmore"... Nice!

Something doesnt smell right. I do however think it's total crap that you retire after the draft. You are the starting LT for crying out loud, at least maybe hint that you are contemplating it so the team can make alternate plans!

Tis a beautiful thing for sure!

You have the Jay Gruden clown show in DC with RGMe and that trainwreck . . . . .

Philly has Chipper playing GM . . . . . .

Pats losing Brady for 4 games . . . . . .

Its been a magnificent off season so far!

Good point. The recent curse of hosting the SB is strong.

with 32 teams (2 of which play in the SB) and 31 potential sites, there is only a 1 in 496 that a team host a SB. That's not a curse, that's math

edit: never mind, obviously GB and NE and other sites will not host SB, but still very slim odds when you consider how many indoor/warm weather sites there are. Seems more like a 1 in 296 chance.

I wasn't being serious. Of course it is extremely difficult to win a SB and only one team a year gets to do it. I was just having fun with the extreme cases that have occurred lately. For example, Tony Romo missing most of the year in 2010, Peyton Manning missing the entire season in 2011 and the Saints dealing with Bountygate in 2012.

yeah right ? except right before the Saints host the SB they are busted for contracts on players and are dismantled. Another non story about something all players say that all teams do. Just like all QBs mess with balls and everyone knows it. The nfl just makes crap up and you believe it.

the Cardinals host last year and they cant keep any QBs standing?...yeah sure that was natural.
your flawed odds=the Saints and Dolphins have hosted half the super bowls. I guess its just dumb luck that both those teams never make the playoffs or go deep in them while constantly hosting the big game.

so I have dumb logic, yet you are advocating the existence of curses?

Well, can't blame him if it is for concussion reasons.

He can still train and get back into football in a year if he still has his heart into football. Still very young.

New coach made a mistake putting together a team outing to see San Andreas.

Now players can't get out of San Fran fast enough.

I hear The Rock is available though.
