No, a professor is a Dr. I am a graduate student, about to finish my PhD. So, I am a teacher, not a professor.

Eric

Even grad students usually call themselves "instructors" rather than "teachers"

Huh, funny because I am a grad student and my official title is teaching assistant. An instructor is usually a masters degree person who is hired to teach classes

let them go ahead with Shaun Hill and Alex Smith at QB then , its what they deserve as an organisation. Stafford should have said FO, lets talk football.

Don't believe me on the accuracy thing? Check this video... there is only one pass out of 20 or so OVER TEN yards that he throws accurately the entire game

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3l0OIqYkwz0

Oh woop dee dooo. For every video like that, there's about 10 of Stafford hitting recievers on the money and connecting on deep balls.

I'm ashamed to call you a fellow UGA fan. Maybe you are a transplated Gayturd or a Bee fan, I don't know.

I'm NOT a UGA fan. Texas born and bred... UT alum, and Cowboys. UGA is like my step child.

And Stafford is gonna be a joke. I watched plenty of games. I just picked the first video that had all of his passes, not a highlight reel

You would have to watch every play of every game to have watched as much as many of these pro scouts who say he IS the real deal.
So who should we trust?

Having said that, I personally like him better a little later that 1st overall pick.

I teach at UGA. I see Stafford around campus and know other teachers who have had him.

I'm telling you -- HUGE BUST!

The guy is not very smart, despite his wonderlic which I can't believe. Also, he just has this look of deer caught in the headlights. You know how you look at people and can just tell that there are no lights on? he's got that

I don't know about the pysch exam, but I can see teams determining he doesn't have IT.

He lost most big games at UGA, except the FLA ambush which was more of a team thing.

He is VERY inaccurate. VERY. He overthrows a lot and receivers always have to dive for the ball.

And, he just seems like a mental goofball to me.

I am calling it now--BUST!

Regardless of that, they have ZERO right to expect Stafford to answer questions about his parents divorce. It's nobody's business.

I actually commend the kid for refusing to talk about it. I think it takes a stronger mental aptitude to do that then to ***** yourself out.

Then you aren't "teaching" the course are you? You are a TA. Sure you might be in charge of discussions or something but you are just the professor's b****

I think, however, you are confusing the assigned title which varies from university to university from the preferred titled used to describe a set of people. Most faculty -- whether they be Instructors, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, or Full Profs -- prefer the term "professor" -- even graduate students teaching courses could refer to themselves as the "professor" for the course -- small p not capital.

No, actually I am the teacher of record. I have never been a prof's *****. And I am about to be an Asst Professor next year. The rankings don't vary. Lecturer is MA, no prof. Asst prof is new, Associate is with tenure, Full is for the badass

Why are u arguing with me when I am in it?

Why are you arguing with me when my experience with it far exceeds yours? Let this soon to be badass tell you where it is at.

First, if you are the instructor of record for your course then you are someone's b**** b/c you are getting paid to assist rather than instruct.

Let me break it down for you.

TA -- Graduate student -- May be called a) by first name, b) Mr. or Ms., or c) Teaching Assistant. May sleep with students - after all what are they going to do to you?

Instructor -- MA or Ph.D. folks who generally don't have tenure track positions -- May be called a) instructor, b) professor, c) Mr., Ms., Dr. depending on education. Can't sleep with students

Assistant Prof -- Ph.D (except in fields don't have Ph.D. like art) -- May be called a) instructor, b) professor, or c) Dr.. Can't sleep with students.

Associate Prof -- Terminal degree -- has worked through the ranks -- May be called a) instructor, b) professor, or c) Dr.. Can sleep with students if really discreet.

Professor -- Terminal degree -- worked up though associate -- May be called a) instructor, b) professor, or c) Dr.. May sleep with students - after all what are they going to do to you?*

I am an instructor or I am a professor would be more correct. I'm sure his colleagues would prefer to be called instructors or professors rather than "teachers" - the issue is that the faculty position involves far more than simply teaching.

You're going to be a full professor? Congrats, but wow--they must not require much listening skills at your U, since what you said is exactly what I said.

If I call myself an instructor or professor, that is not correct since we have both professors and instructors and I AM NEITHER. My position title has Teaching in it, so calling myself a teacher is most correct.

I don't care what people might prefer to be called. This is a stupid argument, one that only somebody with an inflated sense of intellect and a lot of spare time would engage in. Oh that's right--you must be a full professor then

And, I am paid to teach/instruct. No other person ever enters my classroom, sets the assignments, grades them, or deals with the students in any way.

I am not a minion working for another professor. They have no oversight and I am responsible both legally and institutionally as the TEACHER of record (which, by the way, is also an official term).

Exactly--a faculty position is a professor. I am on staff, not faculty. And I get paid to do one thing--teach. Not research, not service. I do all of that as a graduate student for my professional development.

Again, if you are getting paid as a Teaching assistant for TEACHING the course you are getting jobbed. Maybe that crap flies in Georgia - but in states with no history of slavery it isn't allowed.

But congrats on your upcoming faculty position.
