He's a little bit of a Romo clone. You have certain plays in for Romo (bootlegs, rollouts)... you won't have to change those plays if McGee has to play.

Plus, he can be the Wildcat QB the Cowboys have been wanting. Put in about 4 plays for him a game and let him work all week on them in practice. That would be the perfect way to work in a rookie QB.

My hope is the guy develops to the point where another team wants to give up a number one for him down the road. Theoretically Romo should be the guy for five to eight years.

Backup QBs are definitely wasted picks......as we saw last season when Tony went down.

for draft experts.....let's keep looking at the 1998 draft. Dallas took the 7th OT in the draft (Flozell) and just take a look at the top 6

Kyle Turley
Tra Thomas (solid pick)
Mo Collins
Victor Riley
Leon Bender
Anthony Clement

This is certainly a Patriot strategy that works for them.

None of that screams "third pick" to me, especially when you already have a very capable backup that's not going anywhere for the next few years.

In our draft and with our needs, McGee's value does not match where he was drafted. Had he fell to rd 5 or 6 or if we had a pick on the first day then maybe I'd feel differently.

FWIW: and believe me, I realize most people don't think it's worth much: all the ESPn talking heads LOVED the pick. Mort also said he liked Williams alot: again: FWIW

Mcgee will be nothing more than a career backup at BEST--wasted pick

Yeah I agree! Grooming a competent backup QB is overrated. It's not like Romo has gone down at all in recent history.

Not my favorite pick, but Cowboys did not reach for him. Could be good in 3 years. Has the intangibles & measurables, just not proven production.

Have you forgotten about that guy that's thrown for over 8,000 yards and almost 40 TDs since 2006 riding pine on our bench?

How can this be a good pick when this team has other glaring needs.

What glaring needs?

Saftey - NOPE, we have Hamlin, Sensaubaugh, Pat Watkins, Courtney Brown (who has been moved to saftey. In all honestly, at best any saftey we are drafting is the #4 saftey to start with).

WR - NOPE, we have Roy Williams, Miles Austin, Patrick Crayton. So any WR we take is the #4 WR at BEST anyway..... And that is assuming he can beat out Sam Hurd (no guarantee).

DT - NOPE, we have Jay Ratliff as the starter and Junior Siavii as the backup who the staff really likes. Someone that they wanted to bring back to replace Tank Johnson in the middle of the year.

ILB - Well maybe, but there are still several ILB's left.....

Yeah, but we didn't waste a draft pick on him, much less a 4th!

I wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be decent and we use him for trade bait in the future...aka Cassell.

I think we wanted him to be a backup so I guess it wasn't a wasted pick.

And if you watched our games last year than you know that it may seem wasted until you need the guy.

Im not a huge fan of the pick but the QB position is invaluable.

I can actually get behind the team trying to develop a QB. Not too upset at this pick.
