4th Round: Stephen McGee - QB

Great pick....they should be drafting QB's more often.

McGee is the fourth best QB (Pat White was added value because of versatility, but he isn't a better qb) in this draft and in my opinion he is not far from being in the same class as Freeman.

I can actually get behind the team trying to develop a QB. Not too upset at this pick.

Thank you, I don't understand the problem with the pick. Kitna is 40 something, Romo is 29 and when is the last time we developed a QB?

Backup QBs are definitely wasted picks......as we saw last season when Tony went down.

I don't mind this pick too much. I like the OT/G pick. The others I am not at all sold on yet.

So somebody remind me again how many points we won the Superbowl by last year ? Last year was so bright, I have to wear shades.

lol old school comeback:laugh2:

The comments made by people who don't like this pick remind me of last year's comments regarding Martellus Bennett. The fact is Franchione ran a terrible system that never developed anyone.

Furthermore, the comments made about him are just outright inaccurate. The guy has arm strength...plenty of it. He's plenty accurate (look at his Interception to TD ratio). His downside is that he didn't like throwing into tight situations. He's a project with all the tools to be a top notch NFL QB. In the 4th round of a weak draft? I don't know that you can do any better.

I believe Kiper had him rated as the 4th best QB behind Stafford, Sanchez and Freeman.

You can't compare TEs and QBs when systems are concerned. TEs are plug-and-play guys, QBs are not. It's anybody's guess if McGee can adapt to the NFL, but he doesn't have many prototypical tools and he's totally injury-prone.

Why are people so upset?

Everyone was begging Jerry to draft a backup QB when Romo went down. You think we are set until Romo gets hurt.

He's fast, has an good arm, and a heck of a leader. Give him time and he should be a good #2 in time. We have 13 picks today and we got the 4th best QB available.

I have no problem with it all.

Can you find me one source that backs up your comments about him not having the tools? I'm not being accusatory, just really curious. Everything I've read since he was a high school recruit (including the predraft scouting reports) say the exact opposite. He's got all the tools, just is raw.

Injury prone? sure. Although if you watch the way he was used, i think you'd take back the statement. He was a running quarterback who consistently dipped his shoulder to get the extra yard rather than run out of bounds. With a change in roles, I'd think it would go away.

McGee is not injury-prone. I always asked myself why he didnt get hurt more. McGee would seek contact at least 20 times per game.

He's a project with tremendous upside. He never got to show his arm very much in Fran's offense. My only concern is how he can adapt to actually running a pro style offense with a real defense with NFL Speed not A&Ms cupcake defense before he got hurt.

If you give Stephen the coaching, fix the footwork, teach him to stay in the pocket (something he never did at A&M even when he had protection) and just work with him - he is going to be a great pick.

Its premature to say that he will never start or can never start - because he's still very raw imo. I wonder what would have happend to him if Coach Fran would have not nearly destroyed his career.

Not too crazy about taking a QB in round 4. That pick could have booted Pat Watkins.

You know it. That was a luxury pick IMO. It may be why we have not taken Casey yet. Although it looks like no one wants to take a chance either.

Watkins will be booted anyway.

:)

Putting all the Romo hate aside for a while, Romo could get injured, it's better to have Kitna and a Drafty vs Kitna and some guy.
