How do you know that?

Because adding players like Romo, Dez, Zeke and OScan and dropping players like Hayden and Wilcox makes our team considerably better then last year. No reason to believe we can't pick right back up winning games again.

No one knows if Romo is going to stay healthy. After foot and ankle surgery Dez still has to prove he's still the same player he was in 2014. Zeke hasn't taken an NFL snap yet he still has to prove himself at the NFL level and stay healthy. Scandrick is coming off an ACL and issues with his on and off again girlfriend that's made news the past year. With him being 29 and having to rehab a serious injury and having to endure personal problems we'll have to see where his game is. We can win games but to be the team we were in 2014 a lot of things have to go our way and several players are going to have to step up on defense. The Cowboys are a 1-14 team without Romo the past 3 seasons, without him we're a bad team.

I don't think there's a team in the entire league who's play drops off like the Cowboys without their starting QB. We started 2-0 with Romo last season and went 0-7 without him that points to a team with a lot of issues. Several teams lost their starting QB for parts of last season and the good teams all still made the playoffs and Denver went on to win the SB. As for dropping Hayden and Wilcox the only way you improve there is if their replacements turn out to be better. That remains to be seen. We thought replacing the corners we had with Carr and Claiborne was going to make our secondary better and that didn't happen.

How do you know that? How do you know Romo will play at least 15 games in 2016? How do you know we'll have the leagues leading rusher that will blow away his competition in 2016? How do you know we'll have 2 players receive MVP votes in 2016? How do you know we'll force as many turnovers as we did in 2014? In 2014 we didn't start the season with our 2 starting DEs suspended the first 4 games.

And how do YOU know they won't do all that? Oh yeah… You don't.
If Romo goes down an extended period this years team we'll be more like last years team.

And if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle…

It wasn't just Romo. We lost our two best skill position players from the year before as well.

Enter the Zeke.

I'm taking an educated guess that Romo won't have a career year along with Dez, and Zeke leading the league in rushing. Our triplets had career years in 2014 and two of them received MVP votes what are the odds that happens again in 2016? It's not impossible but with Romo aging and coming off an injury plagued season along with Dez coming off an injury plagued season and two surgeries it's not reasonable to think they along with a rookie RB are going to put up the numbers our big three did in 2014. What I'm saying is I don't see another 12-4 season but there's enough talent on the team to win 9-10 games and make the playoffs if Romo doesn't go down for an extended period.

I go into the season with 8-8 expectations over the last few years. Sometimes it turns out better, sometimes it turns out worse.
However I have a ten year average to fall back on and until this team can prove they can overcome it...I will stick with it.
One good season is not over coming it, if anything it is an anomaly until it becomes the norm.

Jeff Smith wrote an article on Cheat Sheet Sports about what NFL teams can start 5-0. He thought the teams that could do this would be the Cowboys, Colts, Raiders, Cards, And the Seahawks. Believes the toughest game for the Cowboys during that stretch might be the Bengals. Believes the Cowboys will beat the Giants because they always play them tough. The only blemish might be losing to the Commanders if you believe the hype around the team said Smith. It is one guys opinion. I say we go 4-1.

For me I'm just interested in getting off to a 1-0 start, will worry about game 2 after winning game 1.

All this about an article that basically answers the question 'which decent teams have relatively easy early season schedules.' Nobody's predicting 5-0. He's just saying it's possible. And if you look at the schedule, we do have an easy season start this year.

And as usual you overlook the loss of Kraken (our best pass rusher), Lawrence (our 2nd best pass rusher), Gregory (our third best pass rusher).

As I recall, Kraken and Gregory contributed nothing to the 2014 team. DLaw will miss 4 games at most. I stand by my statement.

If we had a pass rusher like Hardy or Ware that team might have gone further because it was the lack of a pass rush that got us knocked out of the playoffs. We had issues stopping Detroit the week before but were saved on the PI call that was reversed. Unlikely we would have won that game had that call not gone our way.

Missing four games may be just enough to put us in a hole to start the season. With Hardy gone DLaw is our top pass rusher. One big issue with him has been getting off to slow starts so when he comes back he's got to start making some plays. We can't afford to wait until week 12 before he gets going.

Why do you keep comparing this team to the 2014 team? Do you have some kind of crystal ball that tells you that Romo will play 15 or more games? Two different teams, different players, different circumstances, 2 years later.

Did the 2014 team lose their top 3 pass rushers? Was Scandrick coming off major knee surgery? Was Dez Brant? Was Romo 36?
