5 players the Cowboys could regret passing on in this year’s draft

It’s tough to accurately grade a draft class without seeing the picks actually play in any NFL games. But with the eight players the Cowboys recently selected, and the addition of La’el Collins, it’s tough to give Dallas anything other than an A.

RB just wasn't the BPA when our turn came up in the draft. I have no problem with that cause we will be better in the long run with this approach.

Someone will win our committee approach at RB....will be interesting to see who is starting by the end of the season.

Why would we regret those rb's? Cowboy's like Randle, McFadden and RWilliams. They want to see what Randle can do with more carries. And like McFadden's overall versatility. RWilliams, who knows, he could be a diamond in the ruff. That's 3 rb's Boy's want to see what they have.

The only one that I think remotely comes close is Ajayi in Round 5 vs the linebacker Wilson we drafted.

But if the Peterson deal ends up happening, we look even better.

On Bryce Petty, Gil Brandt said yesterday that he talked to Jerry about the decision not to take him. Gil rarely talks ill of any draft prospect and he wouldn't come right out and say it but it was clear that the Cowboys just didn't think he was going to be successful in the NFL after doing a lot of diligence and research on the guy.

Per Gil, Jerry was very interested in taking a QB in this draft and will be from here on out, but they will be very picky and very diligent in their search. Gil talked up several QB prospects that would be of interest to the Cowboys in next year's draft, most particularly Trevone Boykin.

The guy I thought he would bring up was Malcom Brown. 1 tech, 3 tech, whatever tech, this guy is just a great football player and will do what you need him to do. Just think if they had chosen him.......Hardy, Brown, Crawford, Lawrence, Gregory, Mncey, etc. That is some DL.

And for next year's QB lookout...........Everett Golson, won't cost you a first round pick because he is similar to Wilson's measureables and plays like him too. I would definetly use a bottom 2nd rounder on him.

I hope Chaz Green looks a LOT better when they put pads on. He looked really bad in the limited rookie mini-camp footage. He pretty much looked like the worst guy there. While the Cowboys have hit on OL in the 1st round, their OL picks in later rounds have been horrendous. This might be a wasted 3rd round pick.

No way I take Coleman or Duke over Gregory and I love Duke. Would had to have taken Allen in the 3rd. With as much time as the Cowboys spent with Ajaji, the knee has to be an issue.

You mean the Everett Golson who is looking for a college team to play for? Based on the things I hear about him (lacking accuracy), I doubt he's drafted before the fourth round.

Unless one of the suggested backs turns out to be the next Adrian Peterson or Emmitt Smith, we won't rue anything.

This isn't like the 90s when the Dolphins were looking for that elusive running back to pair with Dan Marino. Running backs are a dime a dozen, and a good one can be found almost as easy as finding hairs on a brush.

Besides, as I keep reminding people, the Giants and Commanders plugged in average-to-good backs (Meggett, a washed-up Gerald Riggs, Earnest Byner and O.J. Anderson, Timmy Smith, etc.) behind their huge offensive lines and won Super Bowls. And their quarterbacks were Phil Simms, Doug Williams, Jeff Hostetler and Mark Rypien.

If you have a powerful offensive line, even your average-to-good backs should be okay.

The Cowboys are investing in the right unit. We've drafted offensive linemen in the first round three of the last five years. We drafted Green in the third. We could have easily gotten complacent and let La'el Collins get away to Miami. But we, understanding where the TRUE value is, went after him hard and now he's a Cowboy.

I really wanted a new back, but I think that's more because I too like the new, shiny toys (skilled positions) at Christmas - at least I did when I was a child. I don't like getting socks and underwear (offensive linemen, in this case) for Christmas. But you get far more use out of the socks and underwear than you do the toy - essentials vs. entertainment. Besides, getting a toy you don't like brings temporary frustration before you're on to the next toy. If your socks and underwear don't fit properly, you feel miserable at the most basic, personal level.

These columns are for the naysayers and those who just can't be happy with what they have.

You can look back on every draft and find a bust player who had a stud drafted just after him, and then criticize that team's pick. And we do that, only knowing a small portion of all the research that went into that decision.

While teams need to look at their pick failures and analyze their evaluation process, hindsight is otherwise frequently an exercise in futility.

The draft is over. Let's coach 'em up, and move forward.

Besides Coleman and Duke there wasn't a RB available for us in the 3rd that gives me much excitement.


Once the Cardinals took David Johnson I didn't want a RB.

he is from Florida...........hot, humid, swampy......it surprises me that he would not be able to handle the weather conditions and that he wouldn't have prepared his body prior to the mini-camps.......lots of water, Gatorade, pickle juice.....btw, he isn't the only player from these areas that this happens to.

on a positive note, at least this is a great learning experience for these prospects about preparing their bodies for NFL style activities.
