50's out, call up 51?

Uh, maybe the fact that he RETIRED? He had a deal in place to go back and play for the bears and he retired instead... sounds like a guy that's done to me. But you keep holding on to that hope! ;)

You mean the 36 year old that missed 4 games in his last season? That Healthy Urlacher? Guys that are 36 don't get healthier!

He's been retired the same ammount of time you want to sign him for! LOL Romo's not ready yet, lets call up Brett Farve! o_O

Urlacher said last season that he would only finish with the Bears or play for us.

Only reason he didn't play for us was because we had Lee there already. I guess you know more than Marinelli does.

Yes I mean that 36 year old Urlacher that I think we should give a call because he typically plays throughout a whole season and obviously has had time to heal if he was left with ailments.

Yes that 36 year old Urlacher that will hold a Bruce Carter accountable and be a foundational role model for the younger backers.

Durant, Urlacher, Carter and Wilber.

Romo's not ready yet let call Brett Favre up? I don't see the correlation between going with. Urlacher when Lee clearly went down and we were clearly looking at him last season.

Wasn't Ernie Sims considered out of football at one point?

You sqwack about Urlacher missing 4 games last season but Angerer is missed more in back to back seasons and last played solid in 2011 is this supposedly punch in replacement for Lee?

So supposedly seamless this currently injured Angerer that a call to Brian Urlacher should not even be a discussion? Lol!

Forget the pass coverage, what you primarily need at MLB is a tacking machine, and the ability to recognize formations and make the proper adjustments to the defense. Carter could probably do this, but it all depends where his heart and passion for the game is. That is why Angerer is an option, he has lots of experience at the position in a similar defense, and is a tackling machine.

Is he going to play more than 12 games this season?

And ok let's forget pass coverage because he's a 4-3 MLB. I see.

Oh and IMHO you're not a tackling machine when you can't stay on the field to make tackles.

You're an injury prone player.

Anger is young, cheap and played in the system. He's not perfect, if he where, he wouldn't be available on May 28th. But IMO he's the best option! And I can't believe he's that bad in coverage, he was drafted into and started in a cover two D for two years.

I like that you state he's young and cost effective. Plus he has experience in a cover 2.

I agree, those are important things but we are trying to replace an injured starter and durability is as important at this point as any and that is Angerer's weakest point.

Yes the Colts did cut him for that very reason and thus why he is available May 28th.

Believe me, if Brian Urlacher accepted that pay cut in Chicago he would have played last year and this year.

If Sean Lee got hurt this time last year, Brian Urlacher would have been the Dallas Cowboys starting MLB last season.

No more players with extended and/or recent injury history please. I'm sick and tired of it, and I'm sure the Cowboys are too.

At some point the pain that has been caused by not heeding that advice will begin to sink in. Hopefully we are already at that point.

Other options at linebacker (free agents):

Erin Henderson - has gotten in trouble with the law 2x recently however
Desmond Bishop - played great, however has had pretty substantial injuries both 2012 and 2013 seasons
Russell Allen

Lenon, Vilma, Harrison, Boley, McIntosh, Witherspoon and Barnett are also options, on the wrong side of 30...

I think we have been slowly getting to that point recently. In recent years, we have tread more lightly around players with injury history with these incentive-based contracts. And that's a good step in the right direction. But I feel like we've still been relying on them too much. I don't mind signing risky-type players as long as we aren't depending on them to start.

Would you say standing pat is a better gamble? Or is there another player on your radar currently available who has some success and is not coming off injury...and isn't 35 or older?

I would rather stay with the young guns then bring in an average mlb coming off micro fracture surgery... why replace an oft injured lb with and lb coming off an major injury... play the young guys and develop them. We are not in a position where a super bowl is within reach like the broncos. Not saying a super bowl is not a possibility but it's unrealistic at this point.

Isn't he coming off micro-fracture surgery? If he is healthy I wouldn't be opposed to it, but we would have the following on defense returning from injury (Spencer, Melton, Crawford,Okeye, Claiborne, Wilcox, Angerer, Bass). Thats a pretty big gamble :).

If so he'd fit right in

Here's the deal: Like it or not, the Cowboys are going to have to bring someone in. As far as I'm concerned, that is a foregone conclusion. Looking at the list of guys currently available, he is probably the most ideal...even if he is just a camp body.

No, he didn't play for us OR anyone because he wanted elite money and wasn't an elite player. So instead of playing for the team or the "love of the game" he decided he had enough and retired. Not bagging on him for it, I respect it. But its a sign you're done!

Its called Sarcasm... you want to un retire a Name, it would be like getting Farve to replace Romo. A Name but not a valuable player.

Wasn't Ernie Sims considered out of football at one point?
Yup... and we signed him for a min contract and he played as a back up. Was younger and actually in shape... he wanted to get back into football... badly. Not just a retired guy coming in off the announcers desk.

Not squawking, just stating that he got banged up and missed some games... also missed the ENTIRE 2013 season... but you know... no big deal.

and No he shouldn't be in the discussion... it's the worst idea ever. Jerry would probably love it!

Urlacher is slower than drying paint, so let's stop that dream now. We're not going to the bowl this year so we can afford to bring in players with potential and see if they develop/work out. Along with going towards youth, no need to panic.

Maybe there is someone available for trade?

Waiting until June 1st or the end of training camp looks like our best option right now.

At first, I wasn't think trade options to, but then it occurred to me that teams knowing are situation would ask for too much for too little. And since I don't think this team is a contender this year anyway it would be waste of picks.

I'm sure they will bring someone in, but I think they will start one of the younger guys. This couldn't of happened at a better time. It gives the younger plays real practice reps the entire season.

I said as much in an earlier post. I'm against bringing in an over-priced veteran like Urlacher/Fletcher, but because I already know they are going to bring in someone else for depth purposes, I'd like that body to be more than just a body. I get that the Cowboys already have a bunch of guys on prove it contracts coming off of injuries, but from what I've seen, Angerer is the only guy who could potentially start if need be...and given the Cowboys luck in the injury department, I'd hope the Cowboys would bring in more insurance than a no-name.

Standing "pat"? Play on words, or just coincidence? :)

As far as looking to bring someone else in, we have the list of current available, but I'm sure they're also scouring other teams' rosters for possible others.

The best I've seen Bruce Carter play was when he replaced Lee at middle linebacker a couple years back,,, now that was a different defense but still,,, maybe this is the position Carter was made to play.
