I thought this was the 50th anniversary of the Cowboys. This should be the 50th season. So why is there no 50th anniversary talk from the Cowboys or no special events covering this?

Or do I have it wrong?

You are correct, this is year 50. There will be a patch on the uniforms. It has not been revealed yet.

I thought so but I have seen NOTHING regrading it from even the cowboys own website. I just got the new Cowboys catalog in the mail this week and there was nothing in there either. Just thought it was really strange.

Jerry will not be idle on it. I won't be at all surprised if we have a gold stripe in lieu of a white stripe on the helmets as well as a patch. Anything that makes a fan think they have to have one.

I suspect it will be revealed at the opening Press Conference to kick off Camp.

Remember the red, white and blue stripe they did in 1976? That would be fine if they had something like that for one or two games. Maybe the home opener and the T-day game. But I would hate to see it all year long.

The patch I am cool with though.

I loathe patches. Please don't **** with or vandalize the uniforms in any way. Just put the anniversary logo on the field or the game programs. That's enough of a tribute.

Allow me to be the first to proclaim that this 50th anniversary season will be a very special one. Here we come Miami! Prepare yourself. There will be some good and bad, but mostly good. We will love this season.

One thing worries me about going to Miami for the Super Bowl. We have been 3 times. Super Bowl V, X, & XIII.

Those are the three we lost.

But we were 1-1 in those "Playoff Bowl Games" in '68 and '69--both played in Miami. Were those games bizarre or what? Who'd want to play in a meaningless consolation game after being eliminated?

1-2. We also lost in 1965.

I am glad the NFL and AFL eliminated that with the merger.

One thing I have never understood was why those games did not count towards post season records? In other words, why aren't we at 33 wins and 27 losses instead of 32 wins and 24 losses?

The 1960's were weird.

The Orange Bowl was truly a Dallas graveyard. AFAIK, we never beat the Dolphins there, either. I know we lost in '79 and '84.

We are 2-2 in Miami, but both wins are post Orange Bowl era. We are also 2-4 against them in Dallas.

I hate the Dolphins. I hate implications Shula was better than Landry. I hate the losing record against them. I hate the losing record in Super Bowls there. I hate that they took Jimmy Johnson even though he did not win it for them there. All of it.

The teams was established in 1960 not 1959 - they are 49 this year not fifty. Landry was signed to a personal services contract December 1959 but the starting year for playing in the NFL is 1960. Dallas did not even settle on a name due to the hated Commander's bigoted owner who fought against Dallas having a team.

Originally, the formation of an NFL expansion team in Texas was met with strong opposition by Washington Commanders owner George Preston Marshall. This came as little surprise to the would-be Dallas team owners, Clint Murchison, Jr. and Bedford Wynne, for Marshall's Commanders had enjoyed a monopoly as the only NFL team to represent the Southern States of the US for several decades. To ensure the birth of their expansion team, the men bought the rights to the Commanders fight song, "Hail to the Commanders" and threatened to refuse to allow Marshall to play the song at games. Needing the song, which was a staple for his "professional football team of Dixie," Marshall capitulated, and the city of Dallas, Texas, was granted an NFL franchise on January 28, 1960

The first season the record was 0-11-1, the Cowboys first regular season game was played September 24, 1960 against the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Steelers won 35-28.

They were granted a franchise, selected players and played games in 1960 - any way you look at it, NEXT year is the 50th anniversary! This year is the new stadium, next year they will have a marketing blitz for the 50th year, they are doing a count down of the top 50 players and that is all.

BTW - Call it kismet or destiny but Emmitt Smith the NFL's all-time leading rusher is eligible for the HOF in 2010 as well so maybe they Cowboys could play the HOF game?

They've played 49 actual seasons...this year they will be playing in their 50th.

Count with me. Each decade is 10 years . You can double check if you wish.

1960 to 1969 is 10 years.

1970 to 1979 is 10 more years, 20 total.

1980 to 1989 is 10 more years, 30 total.

1990 to 1999 is 10 more years, 40 total.

2000 to 2008 is 9 years, 49 total.

Therefore 2009 is 50 years. In case you doubt this the 25 year anniversary of the team by your math would have been 1985. Look it up, they wore the silver anniversary patches in 1984.

This is the 50th season for the Cowboys. They may not actually be 50 years old until January 28, 2010, but this is 50 years.

Isn't a fact that we have only won titles when a democratic president is in office? I might be wrong...

If so, maybe this is the year.

This is our 50th season.

EDIT: Just saw Hos' post and he defined it pretty well.
