Mike Whites scouting ....

Strengths
  • Arm talent is the first thing you notice
  • Former high school pitcher with 90 MPH fastball who can crank up that heat when he needs to
  • Has good drive accuracy
  • Able to push the ball into tight windows
  • Has velocity and accuracy to attack the middle of the field
  • Can alternate between heat and touch
  • Throws catchable deep ball and has ability to drop it over a cornerback's head down the sideline
  • Can be dangerous from the pocket when he's protected
  • Completed 57 percent of his deep throws when protection was better in 2016
  • Resets feet before throwing when he leaves the pocket
  • Asked to make full-field reads at times
The above in BOLD is what Dak doesn't have.....

Big kid. 6'5 225 lbs. He has the measurables

Mike White
College: Western Kentucky

Position: Quarterback

Height/Weight: 6’5”/225 pounds

College Stats: 863 completions on 1,393 attempts, 1,1262 passing yards, 62% completion percentage, 74 TDs, 31 interceptions, 142.9 passer rating.

Pros:

White is a gunslinger. When he sets up in the pocket, he’s truly as good a passer as any quarterback in this draft. During that 2016 season, he finished in the top ten in FBS in pass completion percentage, passing yards, passing yards per attempt, and passing touchdowns. He was also in the top 15 in overall completions. When you throw to guys like Taywan Taylor, Lucky Jackson, and Nacarius Fant, you get pretty good at throwing a deep ball and that’s one of the big things scouts noticed about him at the combine. But White isn’t just a long ball guy. He can do quick hits and short routes as well and really spread the ball around, which makes him great for an uptempo offense.

Con:

He’s REALLY not a runner, which makes him a little one dimensional. Not only is he slow, his ball carrying could be better. He fumbled 12 times in 2017, which you can certainly partially blame on his abysmal offensive line. But here's the thing about the NFL: the defensive linemen are big, fast, and eventually going to tackle you. White needs to be prepared for that.

I definitely don't mind the pick. He has no mobility but when you are putting so much $$$ and draft picks into OL you should be able to provide a pocket.

I was thinking they might steer toward another mobile spread QB to possibly incubate on the practice squad.

I don’t know if it’s the right pick or not, but the cowboys really should start taking qbs and grooming them for a back up role. They never like to do it, but maybe they will now.

Yeah, because backup qb is no big deal. I can’t think of one good team that invests in backup quarterbacks.

Another young QB to sit behind Dak, this team does not need.

How soon everyone forgets Cooper Rush. White as 3rd QB does not help Cowboys win any games, let alone contend for a ring.

Not when there are still starting positions that are up for grabs.
