The Packers are out of their minds.

Prediction...When Mike McCarthy is done as Green Bay Head Coach this off season will be brought up constantly.

I will not be at all surprised if we are facing one of the two rookies at QB for Green Bay by week 3.

I agree Cuz---TT and MM got huge extensions this off season and now they can do whatever they want with no fear of tomorrow. Packers organization really screwed up on this issue. The handling of it was horrible regardless of how Brett played it.....

He can't veto a trade, right? If he does, they should file a grievance.

The Packers are in "serious talks" about a trade that would send Brett Favre to the Jets, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

This would be the Packers' ideal landing spot for Favre. Favre's agent, Bus Cook, has conversed with the Jets, indicating his client does have interest in playing for them. An impending trade could be the reason commissioner Roger Goodell has refused to reinstate Favre to this point. Allowing Favre to practice could've crippled the Packers' team chemistry. Stay tuned.

please...this poor Brett stuff is lame

there's a real serious reason a team doesnt want you when they offer up 20 mils or so to keep you away...the whole story of this thing isnt known, and probably never will be because its probably something that would be less than flattering for the media's true love Favre

The New York Jets are in serious talks with the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre’s agent about acquiring the legendary quarterback, a source said today.

The Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only teams that have permission to speak with Favre about a potential trade for now. Favre's agent, Bus Cook, has been in talks with the Jets, who have shown a growing interest, but Cook has not been working closely with the Buccaneers, according to two sources.

Favre would have to sign off on any trade before a new team would be willing to give up compensation for him, because if he refuses to report to the new team’s camp, the trade would be voided. The extent of Cook’s talks with the Jets means Favre at least is considering playing for them.

Ted Thompson, the Packers’ general manager, has been asking for a draft pick that could escalate to a better pick based on Favre’s and the new team’s performance. Thompson and the Packers have stated repeatedly they plan to move forward with Aaron Rodgers, the former first-round pick and Favre’s backup the past three years, as their starting quarterback.

Favre could force the Packers’ hand by showing up to training camp, and earlier today, he was scheduled to take a private plane to Green Bay. However, that flight was delayed multiple times and then apparently cancelled.

For a third straight day, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell declined to act on Favre’s request for reinstatement from the reserve/retired list to give the Packers time to resolve the situation. That Goodell has waited this long indicates progress is being made toward a resolution.

"The Packers and Brett Favre are continuing their discussions,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in an e-mail to the Press-Gazette today. “The commissioner preferred to let those discussions continue rather than act on the reinstatement petition today.”

Tampa Bay’s need at quarterback might have increased Thursday, after veteran Jeff Garcia was carted off the practice field with what the team called a calf strain.

As it stands, though, the Jets have the more tenuous quarterback situation. New York was 4-12 last season, but in 2006, coach Eric Mangini’s first season, the Jets went 10-6 and earned a wild-card berth in the AFC playoffs. Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens are competing for the starting job; Pennington never has been the same since suffering a shoulder injury in 2004, and Clemens was ineffective in 10 games (eight starts) last year, throwing 10 interceptions and only five touchdown passes.

Mark Murphy, the Packers’ president and chief executive officer, on Wednesday had a daylong meeting with Favre and Cook in Cook’s Mississippi law office and offered Favre as much as $20 million over 10 years if he stays retired. Favre and Cook have said for nearly a month that Favre wants to be released, a request Thompson has denied.

The Packers, who did not practice today, return to the practice field for the first of two sessions Friday at 8:45 a.m. Favre will not be there.

That would work for the Pack either way. They're not obligated to make his selfish dreams come true.

Don't put to much stock into that. A guy from Madison sports radio was just on WQAM down here and said favre wants no part of the bucs and jets. When does Brett Favre get to dictate where he's traded to. I'm so sick of these freakin guy. I hope he does go to the vikings and throws 10 ints. Screw Favre.

Yup. If he unretires though, Favre can practically play where he wants to.

A rare talent, Packers quarterback Brett Favre now holds a rare distinction.

Without having an official no-trade clause in his contract, Favre has an unofficial no-trade clause in the leverage he has.

If the Packers agree to trade Favre to any team, the quarterback can veto the deal simply by declining to report. Then Favre's rights would revert back to Green Bay, which would be forced to take him back along with his $12 million base salary -- or release him.

To carry's Favre salary, and all the distractions that came along with it, would be an enormous financial and emotional burden for the Packers. Thus Green Bay would have to commit to keeping Favre or to trade him.

But unless it is a team that appeals to Favre then the Packers quarterback can continue vetoing deals until he has a satisfactory new home.

Basically, if Favre unretires he gets to play where he wants.

They are only a season away from 10 wins and really added strength to that defense as well as OL during the offseason. They have Coles, Keller and a quality platoon at RB. They need a QB and they could be quite good.

I don't follow all this Favre stuff so I'm not up to date. Is there a credible source besides someone heard something about 20 million.

BTW, I said when this first broke that Favre had leverage and got replies of 'no way, Favre has no leverage'. Money talks esp 20 million of them.

We will see. I think that Goodell may decide that if the Jets make a good offer to the Pack, he may tell Farve that he will only be traded outside the division to make it fair, I would guess.
