Screw Favre. He 'retires' every year so he can skip the offseason and then decides to show up and thinks he can just call the shots. The Pack and the coaching staff as well as Rodgers himself spent all offseason getting Rodgers ready and Favre just decides to unretire and expect to be catered to.

To me its completely classless and i kow guys like Aikman Staubach and the like wouldn't even think about being a putz like that.

Perks of being a legend. Favre does give them a better chance to win.

ESPN's now saying Favre's seriously considering the retirement deal that will involve a payout over 10 years, merchandising, etc. The reporter said it was confirmed with seperate sources and that is the way it looks like this mess will be resolved.

We shall see, I guess. If that's what happens you gotta give Favre credit for being very savvy. He gets $20 million out of the Packers after he retired.

I agree that he did not handle the situation in a professional manner. Never the less he still does give them the best chance to win. He is proven.

...this will hit the Pack's books on the cap at 2 mill per year for the next 10 years. If there is a cap in the future.

Not sure you guys heard but a radio station in NewYork 660 said that the Jets and Pack in serious talks that will send Lord Farve to the NY.

They said that there could be a deal in place by midnight tonight or as early as tomorrow morning. Take it for what it is, I guess.

thanks for the update pick 6.

The jets are a good team imo. If they had a capable quarterback they are a double digit win team.

In the blink of an eye that division is good again.

don't think so. Favre is a retired player. His salary will be like any other non player employee of the Packer organization. Coach, secreatary, scouts, etc....

...has to look at this different. It is money spent that affects a team's roster and the competitive balance in the league.

The Packers shouldn't be allowed to pay someone to keep them off another team's roster.

Other employees in the organization would not tip the competitive balance on the field so I would expect the league to consider that part of the salary cap that affect football.

If I was the Vikings or the Bears or any other team in the league I would argue for a salary cap accounting of the retirement money.

Does this set a precedent for future stars in the league? This just seems like bad business to me.

You either want a guy on your team or you don't. If you think your better off without him, then let him go to some other team and get a draft pick or whatever you can for him.

Proven doesn't necessarily mean better.

Keeping Favre and letting him start probably does make the Pack a better team this year. But it also very well might burn a bridge with Rogers, and it certainly undermines him as a leader of the team. If Favre plays, say, another two years, and Rogers walks, keeping him means giving up on a former number one pick you've already invested years in developing. It means likely spending another 1 on a replacement, and it means forgoing what you could have got for Favre this year in a trade. Is Favre that much better than Rogers this year that you take that kind of hit with the team you've so carefully built? On top of that, do you really want to reward Favre for being an ungodly big putz?

It takes a lot of guts to let him walk, but it's not crazy. Letting him go to Minnesota would be crazy.
