Right now he is Mercedes Lewis with the upside to be better, Lewis was a former 1st rd pick who has played many years in this league.
No he is not. Lewis was a lot more polished as a receiver when he came into the league.
Washington is VERY raw and needs a lot of coaching. That is a risky pick in the first.

before the Combine i would never have guessed he could run 4.65.this speed is not evident on the field but he is so big that it may be irrelvant.i will not be unhappy if they draft him at 26,i trust they will use him wisely.
I think that's part of the problem. Some see 6-7 and 4.65 and think he's going to have no problems getting open. But the tight end position is much more about nuance than it is about measurables. Knowing how to give a slight nudge to get open, where the soft spots are, how to sell a route are important because there are NFL defensive linemen who are faster than you.

It's great to see potential with Washington, but the lack of production is red flag even if it is believed that the main reason for it was the team he was on.

I'd be happy with Washington at 26. He earns his keep day one with his blocking and what he offers in the red zone. Over time he has a chance to develop into one of the biggest matchup nightmares in the entire league. He's unnaturally agile for a man that big.
Washington is a huge dude, but very green.
This must be taken into consideration.

they basically used him on go routes and dump offs in the flats.HE was a complete after thought in that Offense because of Brock Bowers,

The question still remains whether he can do the little things that make tight ends great. I've read that he's kind of a lumbering or awkward runner. As a TE, you've got to be able to sell your routes, you've got to be able to settle into the soft spots, etc. Jason Witten isn't a Hall of Fame tight end because he's either big or particularly fast. He's a Hall of Fame tight end because he understood how to play the game.

Maybe Washington does too and they just underutilized him, but how much would you really limit a player who shows you that he can do it all?
