Ok, from what I read on NFL site, we have picks:

51
69
101
117
156
166
172 (comp)
197
208 (comp)
210
227

Probably not 11 roster spots open on the team. Probably only 5-6. We can't trade comp picks, so really we have 5 picks after 150 that become long-shots to make team.

I can see Jerry packaging some of the extra picks to move up 3-4 spots to make sure we don't miss on players they like on draft board. I can see the screaming now "why did we give up a 6th to move up and take a guy who would have been there 5 picks from now". I just see this happening a bunch.
Jerry is gonna wheel and deal a ton I think this draft, especially trying to push a few picks into next years draft (uncapped year etc), but most teams are aware of this and might be doing the same, so the number of trading partners might be limited, or cost high to do so.

What do fans want Dallas to do? Looking at the draft value chart, it would cost both our 5th rounders (the non comps) and a another later round pick to get into the middle of 4th round again. It would cost our 156th, 166th, and 210th picks to move into a spot right around where we already pick at 117th. If board is accurate and I read it right.

I think Jerry does try to move up into 2nd, or more likely 3rd and 4th round for an extra pick in there, maybe even using a pick from next year, which he then replaces by trading picks from this year again. Based on the numbers game, I'd like to see packaging picks to try and get a solid player that fits a need (I know, I know, don't draft for need, BUT if he is high on board already....).

How deep is this draft. Are there gems and interesting projects in the 5th round? Lately, the 'Boys seem to have drafted alright in the later rounds.

Learn from last year. Unless someone they grade much, much higher than the round in which he is available can be had for a reasonable trade, I think the Cowboys draft room will take the BAP in each round with each of the eleven picks. That kind of approach is what brought Choice and Scandrick to the team.

What's it going to be then, eh?

The draft is not just about getting "starters" or filling open roster spots.

It is about creating competition.

That in of itself has been a huge problem for the last several years.

We have a bunch of content fat cats, all signed, sealed and delivered on this roster.

I can think of at least eleven players, from starters to the lowest most worthless reserve, that could or be off this team right now.

The worst thing Jones could do is trade away these choices and then limit the opportunities. We aren't that great at drafting where we can just think we can hit a home run with six picks.

Jimmy Johnson's drafts were great because he played the law of averages after the Walker trade. The more choices you have, the better chance you have to hit big. It also helped keep people on their toes.
