Did one for myself to see and it is hard to juggle.

I have to say, I may have done it with some Cowboy bias.

Wow

We'd of course have to give the 49er at the very least our 3rd rounder. Right?
Right now it looks like you have...

Dallas gets 34(560) and 66 (260) = 820
San Fran gets 28(660) = 660

Maybe give them 92(132) and hope rhey do t also want our 4th or at least 6th round too.

At minimum the get our 3rd though
Right?

If not they could trade with someone Way earlier than 28 if they planned to give that much up

Want your QB? Pay up Niners.

I know about the point thing, but that is tough to do. I was more concerned about the premium rounds.

 I hear ya.

My point is that they can trade up way higher than us if they plan to give that much up. 7-8 slots higher and not risk their guy falling all the way to 28.
Instead maybe they'd just give us 34 and 98 (instead of 66) and call it day. Dallas comes out slightly ahead but more real world like.

I've never once seen a team that late in the first round get that lopsided of a trade. It happens at the very top sometimes though..especially if the vague future picks are throw n in there.

No big deal. It's your mock. Good effort.

btw, I'm all over Barnett at 28 ...if there.

Nice job and thanks for the effort. I would not trade out of the 1st if Barnett is sitting there. I will take him. Just my opinion
That was the tough part.

But there were a bunch of players I have graded about the same.

I have about all of them equal with different degrees. I can't even say Burnett is the hands down best even though he is my top edge player.

I just wanted the value of the pick at the end of the round. If it rolled out a thing like this, I definitely take the extra pick.

It allows us latitude to not just focus defensively.

The way I see it, if we stay with the picks they are, it really causes a concern if we elect to deviate from defense in the first three rounds.

I hate forcing things, but I don't see how where we are drafting that we can control ourselves to not just go defense.

I warned you I was biased.

And maybe the other difference in value is next year picks, huh? What do you have to say about that?

Trading away from Derek Barnett and only coming away with Smith-Shuster for your trouble is underwhelming. Especially considering you passed on Josh Jones to take him. Not a fan.

As for your late rounders, I like Cohen. The others? I guess. But I admit, the top of this draft turned me off from the start. And I'm a fan of guys like Smith-Shuster, Watt, and Woods. But I LOVE Barnett and Jones. Give me those at the top, and I can be talked into pretty much anything else.

You should know that no draft would ever please anyone top to bottom.

The Broncos gave the Seahawks a late 3rd #94 to move up from #31 to #26.

The Seahawks didn't lose the 5th year option like the Cowboys would by moving down to #34.

The #66 pick is an early third. The 5th year option should make the trade worth more than #94 but I don't know if it pushes it all the way to #66.

With so many good defensive players on the board, I would forgo Schuster and pick up another corner or get the safety Jones.
I think we can get receivers in the undrafted free agency ranks. We need to restock our defense. It's the key to a Super Bowl run.

I agree in theory. But I did this knowing what we know. And being cautious at the same time.

Exactly. People get too hung up on the points system, but if you want a QB, you're gonna have pay to play.

The #66 pick is an early third. The 5th year option should make the trade worth more than #94 but I don't know if it pushes it all the way to #66.
I agree. There probably some value there.

That Broncos/Seahawks trade last year was almost 100% textbook trade value chart stuff.

Seahawks (so the Cowboys in this scenario) gave up 700
Broncos (so SF) gave up 724. So SF gave up a tiny bit extra (24 points) 3-4% to get their guy. That within 5% variance tends to be the norm.

That's all I was saying. The 160 point difference on a 660 point value trade (28th pick) in his trade was extreme. That's like ignoring and extra 3rd rounder.

it's no bid deal at all.

I bet you're right in assuming there's a least a small extra bump for gaining a 5th year option. The 1st round contracts are more too, but not by a huge amount.

Exactly. People get too hung up on the points system, but if you want a QB, you're gonna have pay to play.
Well, if the cowboys could rob someone like that, I'd love it! :flagwave:
Then again, in this draft we would've passedon Barnett...who I like.

Anyway, just point to a case where late in the 1st someone overpaid by that much (nearly 25%) and I'm with you.
The GMs absolutely use those charts or something similar. Just look up trades and you'll see they're all within about 5%. The exceptions are when a future 1st or 2nd in involved, because then the gray area grows. Also, if it's at the very top of the draft and QB...so nothing like this scenario..there may be some desperation and silliness..like the RG3 deal.

Last year the team moving up (Denver) at almost the exact same spot (Seattle at 26) paid within 3% of the chart to get a quarterback.
