Dunbar's "role" took Zeke off the field on 3rd downs.

Do you remember the role Emmitt's backup had?

Me neither.
Well, I remember the role, it was to spell Emmitt. Now if you ask if I remember the backs name, thats a different question. Would Hambrick be one of the many that passed through here? But the role of a back up is to spell the starter, no matter the team, and every team has a back up to spell the starter. And why cant we use both Zeke and Cohen in the same back field or have Zeke in the back filed and Cohen split out. Again. I never said take Zeke off the field, but in some cases you have to give him a blow.

You can go into the season with just one back if you want to and you will have a dead back in short order. Do you remember Marion "The Barbarian" Barber? He lasted what 3 years? And that was with a back up also. Is that what you want for Zeke? Even Emmitt had a back up. The Cowboys know this and will have one too for Zeke. I believe that would be McFadden or Morris at present. What I am saying is Tarik Cohen would make a nifty little back, whether its to back up the starter, run routes ala Dunbar or even return kicks and punts. This guy is pretty cool to watch and if he can translate his game to the NFL we would have a heck of a duo at RB. Check him out. I dare you, no, I double dog dare you to watch his videos and not want him as a late round pick or UDFA back. I dont know if he would make the cut, but in watching the highlight reels, UI was like, WOW that kid has some moves. I would wager he one of the most elusive back in college today. If he can bring that wiggle to the NFL we would be better for it.

Your plan for Zeke is unrealistic to never take him off the field. No team in the NFL, CFL or even High School would propose to follow that plan.

Emmitt was never taken off the field for all 3rd downs. Emmitt never had to sit out a series each half for a backup. The fans didn't whine about a backup to lessen the load for Emmitt.

This was back when men were men. You might remember it.

I remember the 90's fine. The game has changed, get with todays game. Now Garrett is the coach and he does things his way. if he wants Zeke on the bench for a series, guess where Zekes going to be? Got nothing to do with Zeke, or me or fellow fans. Just the way Garrett runs things round these here parts.

If Garrett wants Zeke on the bench for a series you still need a back in there, No?

If Emmitt were here now under Garrett, I would think Garretts still going to do things Garrett's way. Nothing against Emmitt. Thats just the way things are done round these here parts now a days. Johnson aint the coach no more so no man can be a man and play every down.

I see whats happening here, your living in the past bud. Sorry that Emmitt aint around no more to save the day and make every play. We have Zeke and a back up - thats the way it is. Deal with it.

I love hollow statements like "the game has changed".

What does that mean, exactly? There are no longer great franchise caliber RBs capable of handling a full load and only get better when they do? The players of today with superior training, supplements and knowledge are somehow more fragile?

Has the game changed or have the people changed? "Garrett's way" would be to water down Emmitt for fear he might get huwt and stuff. Robbing the Cowboys of the most prolific RB in league history.

And you'd be for it. Because that's just the way it is. Deal with it.

I choose to use my brain and live or die with the best back in football in my backfield. Not bring in an inferior talent in the name of safety. Even if it scares the Sallys of the world.

But your not the coach so you dont make that call, Garrett is, He makes that call. You just cant seem to get over the fact that other people may have other ideas on how best to run the team. If they dont run the team your way, you get all huffy puffy and start bagging on players, coaches, fans, whatever most handy or convenient at that time.

The game has changed means Garrett is the coach and you are not. Garrett has different ideas on how to utilize his players than you. That does not make him right or wrong, it makes him different, which means something has changed. which would be the game.

All this started cause I made a statement about liking a specific running back. You seemed to have read, I dont like Emmitt Smith. I never said that. I said I would like to see this guy drafted late or picked up in UDFA. Thats all Im saying now. I love Emmitt and you are right, he could and did, carry the load. But if Garrett does not want Zeke carrying the load, what can I or you do about it. NOTHING.

I see so if I can't make the call I shouldn't have an opinion on it.

It all started with you coveting a RB to water down Zeke Elliott. This is the last thing you should want to do.

Absolutely you can. I would never say you, nor anyone else cant have an opinion. You can agree or disagree as you please. Infact that what makes a conversation actually. Without an opinion on a specific post, this would actually be a pretty boring board, dont cha think?

Like your opinion I have one. Am I allowed to have that?

Coveting is a strong word and I dont know if I would agree with the usage of that word, but its your word so we can go with that.

I said I like the pick (in a mock) of Cohen. Let me ask you, have you watched anything on Mr. Cohen? If not, how can you disagree with my liking him. Or is this just a "Zeke rules the world and anything that takes him off the field sucks" type thing we have going on?

I am just saying I like what I saw on Cohen and would love to see him be drafted by the boys. (I bet youy would too if you hit google and typed in his name and watched a few vids of him performing amzaingly well). Low percentage hes drated by the boys and if it doesn't happen I wont lose any sleep over it. If it does happen I will watch him in TC and hope he makes the team. If he does not make the team, I wont lose any sleep over it. If he does and he spells King Zeke, I will hope he does well and hope even you would cheer for him. If he doesn't do well, maybe I'll say "that old Risen was right". I highly doubt I will. But you never know. Wonder what you will say when he becomes the best back up in the league (hypothetical, work with me here).

In any event, at some point in the season, Zeke will be sitting out a play, a series or maybe a even a quarter (gasp). we are going to need someone to at least stand behind King Dak (the best QB in all the NFL) wont we? Maybe even take a hand off or two. Would it matter to you if it were McFadden, Morris or Cohen? Thats where I'm going. We need a back up, anybody. Heck, even you would do, but what if we actually had a back that was close to the talent level as Zeke and could gain 5-10 yards or even go the distance on any given play while filling in for Zeke? What if that back were named Tarik Cohen? How crazy would that be?

Your entitled to your opinion, no matter how off the wall I consider it, Just as I am entitled to my opinion no matter how off the wall you consider it. I know, I'm crazy for thinking we should have a good back up for Zeke. maybe even as crazy as someone that thinks Zeke should not ever come off the field. But its a crazy world we live in. Good thing were both Cowboy fans and brothers in blue, Huh? Love ya Risen.

What I'm saying isn't an opinion. If the Cowboys followed the gutless safe space path you accept today, Emmitt Smith wouldn't have been Emmitt Smith. He would not have had the same career because he could have gotten hurt and stuff.

When you have a special back you take advantage of it. You don't do that by putting him on the bench so some inferior player can take over on 3rd downs. That wasn't even a thought in 1992 yet now it's accepted as smart. It's not smart. It's weak. It's cowardice. It's not maximizing your talent.

Any draft pick used on a RB is a wasted pick.

Safe space path, I like that. But please dont consider me a snowflake. I dont need a safe space.

Never the less, Your talking to the wrong guy. You should call Jerry and explain that to him. I dont make the call and I dont pay the bills. If you owned the team you can run your back into the ground all day long. As it stands, Jerry is the one thats taking the safe space path you so eloquently described. I dont know if your right or wrong, but I know the current brain trust of the Cowboys and entire NFL thinks your wrong But this aint your fathers Cowboys of yesteryear when men were men. (or should I say your cowboys, as you seem to be stuck in the past unwilling to come into the 21st century with your football schemes). (not a knock, just saying the current NFL doesnt agree with you). Even David Johnson has been taken off the field every once in a while and I would consider him in the same league as Zeke.

Stick to your guns Risen.

You keep desperately trying to cling to the Cowboys as if I'm supposed to fall in line based on what they think. I don't care what they think. I'm telling you what I think. What I know. There is simply no rational reason why players today are more fragile than they were 20 years ago. That isn't the case. What is the case is our society has been feminized to the point where people like you want to waste a draft pick to take our 21 year old stud RB off the field in the name of safety.

I get it, you want the boys to do what you want them to do, not what they want to do. Good luck with that. Just don't waste to much time whining when you see Zeke sitting for a play or even a series, its going to happen.

Whether it happens or not is irrelevant to what is the right thing to do. You are not telling me anything I don't already know.

So...like...what's your point? Please be really safe in your response. If it saves one child....

My point is I like the Cohen kid, I think he'd make a great back up. I could be wrong. But if he pans out we would have a good back up and could trade McFadden and Morris.

Not really. Playing Zeke every down would not ensure a Superbowl appearance let a lone a win. Jimmy got the best out of his talent. Whether Garrett does or does not is another story for another post. This thread is more about me liking a kid named Tarik Cohen and Risen not wanting to pull Zeke off the field at any point in the game. I tried to lay out why it would be ok to draft Cohen late or pick him up in UDFA if possible.

I doubt jimmy would have won Super Bowls with Emmitt sitting on the sidelines on 3rd down. There's a pattern set. When you have an elite running back he never comes out of the game.
If Garrett doesn't comprehend that he shouldn't be coaching.

Well I got seven in the first, at least with teams, not exact positions. Probably the best I have ever done.
