So the Giants have challenged E-Lie to complete 70% of his passes this upcoming season.

Tall order, unless the league leader in tossing INT's can count the picks toward that comp %.

If you were putting $$$ on it, would you bet that Romo or E-Lie gets closer to the 70%?

The list of guys who have done that is a short. I will take the under for both. Neither.
Drew brews twice and 3 other guys...

Tony Romo has had a higher completion percentage then Eli every single year they have both been starters.

For their career's Romo's percentage is at 64.6 while Manning is at 58.5.

So yeah obviously you would go with Romo here but neither will reach 70%.

Honestly though completion percentage is not a good indicator of success there are much more important metrics. If I were the coach of the Giants the first thing I would do is try to limit Eli's turnovers. What really kills Manning more then anything is that he's thrown 83 ints over the past 4 years including a whopping 27 last year.

Edit: Galian beast beat me to it

The 3 other guys made me chuckle. Those would be Ken Anderson, Steve Young and Joe Montana.

1. Drew Brees (32) 71.2% 2011 NOR
2. Drew Brees (30) 70.6% 2009 NOR
Ken Anderson (33) 70.6% 1982 CIN
4. Steve Young+ (33) 70.3% 1994 SFO
5. Joe Montana+ (33) 70.2% 1989 SFO
6. Philip Rivers (32) 69.5% 2013 SDG
7. Brian Griese (29) 69.3% 2004 TAM
8. Daunte Culpepper (27) 69.2% 2004 MIN
9. Troy Aikman+ (27) 69.1% 1993 DAL
10. Chad Pennington (26) 68.9% 2002 NYJ
Tom Brady (30) 68.9% 2007 NWE

Manning has a career completion rating of 58 percent, Romo has 64.6.

Romo's career high for a season is 69.5, Manning's is 62.9. Romo's been below 62.9 only once in his career...

That 69.5 for Romo was over 6 games in 2010. He got hurt and missed the rest of the season. His best over a full season is 66.3%.

Yep, Romo has a higher % and QB rating every year since Romo has started, would have been nice if someone else would have stepped up in crunch time too.

My money is on Eli. Coach Caughlin has a rare eye for finding players that can catch footballs with their helmet.

Romo is damaged goods, is old, fat, and rich so his motivation might not be as serious as Eli's is. Plus, Eli carried his team to 2 SB's, so he is a proven 2 time MVP SB winner. I have witnessed Eli actually closing his eyes and chucking the ball into the air and get a completion...that is one great feat! Throwing with your eyes closed and making a completion? That is skill, raw skill.

Eli all the way, defense or no defense, he will get it done.

Given his career, shouldn't the Giants be looking for 65 as the stretch goal?

That's crazy. No defense and he will be lucky to break 50% after last years beating.

They plan a lot more dinking and dunking with the new OC, so the completion rate for sure will go up.
But I can't imagine a VERY jag completion rate guy like Manning ever making 70%.

Then again, Romo won't get 70% either. In fact, I bet we go down field more this year.

Romo. I think the offense is going to throw easy swings, outs, screens to the backs a lot under Linehan. Not to mention the usual with Wit, and a slot guy in Beasely with great hands.

You don't know who you are talking about! This is Eli Manning! Payton's little bro. Put it this way...if Eli had been playing on the Cowboys as long as Romo has been, the Cowboys would have won 2 SB's.

You have perfectly stated how a clutch QB gets it done.

Can't agree with both years but Eli on the 13-3 cowboys team I would say yes.
The 9-7 Seattle bobble game possibly.
