Back then, the Rams and Cardinals were 2 teams that loved making Dallas wear blue jerseys
I’m not sure the Rams always did. They didn’t in this 78 champ game in LA.

The Cards yea, always. And we struggled winning there. Phi , Wash and NY did some seasons as well.

You know what most of y'all seem like you sound like the people who used to say well back in my day you know grandfathers and fathers yeah sports was very different back then you do realize that the NFL we're forced to grow you know the Dallas Cowboys are owned by Jerry Jones because they were going bankrupt the league had to make changes to make it more exciting to fans and they made changes to the rules and now it's a different game but it's still the NFL which is in the US I believe still the number one sport it is king right now...

But now instead of a bunch of millionaires who struggled to keep the teams afloat back in the 70s have the league making money hand over fist and it's a pop as popular as ever I mean sometimes this stuff just happens just got to roll with change...

Think about how tough it is right now for other leagues like the USFL the USFL the AA whatever and like the Europe league and they can't match the energy of the NFL they're trying really hard now they're trying to combine forces but they're still very small it's failed because they don't know how to be the NFL.

So yeah you wanna go all the way back to the 60s and 70s when there were less rules and people were clotheslining people and knocking people out they were losing their teeth most of them had real jobs and football was like a side gig I mean we could do that but that's not how it is anymore it may have been cool back then and I for sure hate all the rule changes especially on defense it's making the league soft but the fact that that it's raking in money hand over fist and now a bunch of not just one billionaires there are billionaires that are like 10 times billionaires that own these teams I can only imagine what it cost him to get in the league by a team put up a stadium things will always be different when it comes to becoming a profitable business versus just a sport.. Back then you can make a little money at it but you played more for the love of the game and now you play for the game but you also play for the money....

13) a QB actually capable of leading deep playoff runs and an owner not desperate to mug for the cameras. Bet they didnt show Murchison once.
They showed Murchison in the post game locker room, he was trying to shake Hollywoods hand, it lloked like Thomas didnt even know who he was Haha!

Thats a great copy of the game on You Tube. It was a defensive game but still exciting. Charlie was a great playoff safety and Roger was tough as nails.

The blue uniforms were awesome and the Rams had a formidible defense. So many stars on both teams. Hollywoods TD return was icing on the cake.

Great memories for the 12 year old me in 78. Miss that NFL.........

There you go! The last missing piece to officially deem it a "The problem with kids today ..." thread. Thanks!

Philly was team that started making the Cowboys wear their blue jerseys. It started with the 1980 conference title game. From what I remember the Cardinals always wore their white jerseys at home. However, the Rams split it up and wore dark jerseys at home sometimes.

Yea. It was labeled as greatest SB at that time.

It was a brutal loss though. But we were used to. We’d already lost 2 SB’s and 2 NFL title games.

The old Orange Bowl was a dump. It stands shook. I’d never sat in a stadium so wobbly.

Most of the Cowboy fans were more white collar sitting in lower deck while blue collar Steeler fans were hanging from upper deck.

But the game wasn’t as close as score indicated . It was pretty much over down 3 scores. Two late scores made score close but the game was never in doubt in 4th qtr.
It must have been from that damn meddling owner back then. ;)

I had a lot of respect for those Rams teams. When Chuck Knox took over, you could count on 10+ wins. Problem was playoff time either Dallas or Minnesota would bump them off. I think the Rams were in 2 NFC Champ games in Minnesota. The warm weather team didn't do well in Minnesota in late December.

You are so right on #2. It has been so long since that was the norm, it seems like another lifetime. All this celebrating and talking and shameless attention seeking makes me cringe. Just play the damn game, lol.
I think Ray Guy was the only good punter back then. Only punter I've ever heard mentioned from the 70s
Jerrel Wilson was a pretty big deal too.

So this popped up on youtube and Ive been watching it over last 2 nights. Here are some observations:

1) The field sucks. Worse than HS fields are today.
2) Absolutely no trash talk, celebrating routine plays.... NONE. Player gets a sack and gets up and goes to the huddle.Team gets a turnover and nobody running into the endzone doing stupid crap. Its GREAT!
3) Cowboys RB are in motion all over the place right up till the snap.
4)Game is much more fast paced. No extended commercials.
5)Punters suck compared to todays guys. Ram punter was avg 35 yards with a 2 second hang time.....lol
6) No begging for PI on every pass play.
7)1 replay and move on
8)QBs when on sidelines are actually standing and watching the game. You NEVER see that today
9) Charlie Waters was as good as I remember.
10) This one is worth repeating. A TD is scored and they go about their business. No dance, no trash talk, no running to find mama in the stands..... oh it is wonderful.
11) OJ Simpson in several commercials........ knowing his future was a little strange.
12) No game clock is show the entire damn game. It is very frustrating having no clue about game or play clock.

Pretty interesting watching this since I was only 8 when this was played.

It's very refreshing to watch those old games that's when we were the real Dallas Cowboys.

A team with substance led by real men not a bunch of showboat Glory seeking players out to do nothing but promote their brand.

We were winners back then because the players cared about winning
Today's teams are much better than the teams in the past.

I totally agree they're the best celebrators of all time and the greatest at making money and promoting their brand.

As far as playing hard-nosed football they're a bunch of kitty cats compared to the teams of the past.
