A cheap solution for the ILB spot...Takeo Spikes

Watching a few Niner games I saw that Takeo Spikes can still play and complete. He did well in their 3-4 last year and is a FA.

He can't be that expensive. Sign him to a 1-2 year deal and draft a Mckillop/Brinkley/Phillips/Holtzclaw in the draft and have him platoon with Takeo at the WILB spot..meanwhile there's some depth there and the drafted player doesn't get thrown to the wolves right away as a rookie. He could slowly settle into the position. By the time Spikes is gone he could be seasoned and ready to go full time.

The Steelers do this alot. They drafted Timmons in the first round a few years ago when they still had Foote and Farrior. Same with Woodley.

Great player at one time, but he's completely done.

16 games last season, 13 started. 96 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, three interceptions.

"completely done" :lmao2:

Why did the Bills and Eagles get rid of him then?

Remember all those great plays he made for Philly?

Me neither.

The guy is on the back side of his career. If you are going to get someone that is older, make sure he is a very domiating player. Spikes isn't the player he used to be. (don't throw stats, the man played on a crapy defense. Someone had to get the tackle when the opposing offense was making all those first downs.)

If you're going to sign an old ILB, Ray Lewis and Thomas are your only options. Otherwise, get a younger one or draft one.

Thank you I didn't want to pull out the stats..They guy still has 2 years left in the tank and like I said, played very well in the WILB scheme in Frisco.

Do you know how cheap Takeo will be? I'm not saying he'll be our future or starter. I'm just saying he can help ease our rookie into playing the position. I want to go young also but just thought it was cheap and could get a veteran for depth.

I'm not saying throw draft picks to the wolves but this nice cozy settling him into the spot atmosphere needs to be thrown out the door. All of these draft picks coming in have to know they are not guaranteed spots now or in the future but they have to know that they "HAVE" to become a starter soon.

To do so they have to develop rapidly and have the competing mindset or else they will be toasted. There will be no political, financial, or where you were drafted driving agenda. Performance, competitiveness and development are what will secure an opportunity on this team. This is the atmosphere I desire around here.

I want hungry assassins on this team. Like the Patriots offenses mentality was 2 seasons ago. I want Tashard Choice mental make up. I want Jay Ratliff mental make up. No cozy, we'll work you in crap no more.

You're also assuming we hit on that particular draft pick as well.

Hey, it could be a draft dud, or it could be a guy who just needs a year or two to develop. Most picks do need time to develop. Even Tom Landry had a 3-year rule.

What are you talking about? The rookie will still be competitive and know his role on the team. Have you seen the Steelers philosophy? They groom them and when it's thier turn they are well polished. It's called developing players.

Because he saved them money on the cap. Keep reaching, you're just making yourself worse with every post.

LOL. Okay, man. Two good defenses let him go because he had plenty left in the tank.

Hey, he was one of the best LBs in the game at one time, and I was a big fan. I just think he's finished. If you know otherwise, great.

If he's cheap I would be interested. He's only 32 and I've always liked his play.
