The Deonte Thompson signing replaces Brice Butler, but are we witnessing a far bigger receiver turnover in the works?

Dallas' strong pursuit of Sammy Watkins, I believe, was to replace Dez Bryant, not complement him. And I think the latter still sounds likely after June 1st. Adding a receiver like Allen Hurns, combined with drafting Calvin Ridley or Christian Kirk....and I think Dez better get his bags packed. They seem to be TRYING to replace him.

Ryan Switzer and Cole Beasley are somewhat redundant. Switzer returns punts, is cheaper, and is more sturdily built. Bye, Cole?

We could conceivably see a starting receiving group next year comprised of something like Ridley, Hurns, Switzer, and Thompson. The Dez/Cole/TWill/Butler experiment could be over in its entirety.

It seems they believe their receiving corps and grown too stale, and perhaps too content.

I hate to say it but if the receiving core has gone stale it is the fault of the guys leading the players. They did great the year before. What has changed? Complacency? At some point you have to start looking at the coaches. Everyone and their mother has been saying the same thing for a while now, and it has taken me some time to come around.

If they do change the entire core of receivers, we will see if Dak can adjust.

Here's the issue I have with this logic.

If Dak is comfortable with speed guys and guys who can run after the catch, why was he constantly settling for sitting routes that offered little opportunities to run after the catch? Where were the slants, crossing routes, etc?

Is that simply a coaching staff forcing a plan on him and Dak is hamstrung by that? Or is Mosher just pulling something from his butt saying Dak likes this when in fact, he has no idea what Dak likes?

If they go WR early i'm hoping it's St. Brown.

I like Ridley and would be OK with him but he's not a dominant #1 type. I don't think there is that guy in this draft. I think Ridley and a guy like Moore would be really good #2s.

I could also live with St. Brown or Chark later than the first round. I like both more than Kirk and even James Washington.

Seems more likely its the coaching staff forcing it on him. Dak isn't a vet like Tony who can go and get everyone lined up and change plays to dissect a defense the way Tony could. Hes forced to trust the "wisdom" of his coaches.

I can't see how Mosher could have any insight on what kind of WR Dak likes.

Also, we had defenses sitting on the intermediate middle of the field stuff due to lack of a deep threat.

See I think that guy is there but they are flying under the radar.

This class has so many solid guys and they are young.

I think we know what Ridley is and he's a nice player with limited upside.

St. Brown, Sutton, JAmes Washington, one of these guys could just blow up at the next level.

Ridley is limited physically, doesn't have electric speed, and IMO he's the #1 WR in this class by default because he played on a National title team, more polished as a route runner, and more mature then the rest of these guys because he's almost 24.

Give me St. Brown who is more talented and only 21.

I agree. It’s probably time to move on with change. It’s going to be interesting.

If you look at Dak running the offense over the last two years, he likes to move outside the pocket and look just beyond the LOS for
a wide open running WR. I still think the most ideal offense for Dak is a form of the west coast. He doesn't seem to be able to throw
WR open but, can hit them on the run if they have separation. We need fast, quick, change of direction WR who can run rubs, slants
and crosses. We have to become Dak friendly now!

I don’t think the problem is with the WRs to begin with other than Dak and Dez don’t play particularly well together. Dak’s first 24 games in the league were record-setting after all. What he needs is protection.

He does work well with the fast downfield WRs though. Adding a few to the roster makes sense, since we’ve got the space right now.

FWIW, given what we are learning about Dez working out in the offseason, I am not sure he Cowboys are likely to move on from him this year.

Which is the right move. They can cut him for $4M dead cap next year if they really want to.

I think I'd role with him for one more year too unless there was a no brainer type move out there. Like if Seattle came to us and wanted Dez in a deal for Thomas (would never happen, but just giving an example).

I agree they weren't looking at Watkins as a compliment to Dez. If we had signed Watkins I have to believe Dez would be gone. I also think you may be right about a largely revamped WR group, although if they were to sign Hurns it will be interesting to see if they keep Dez or let him go and draft a WR.

Outside the box thinking:

- Keep Dez
- Sign Hurn
- Trade Beasley
- Draft a WR in 2nd/3rd round

Then you have Bryant, Hurns, Thompson, Switzer, Brown and then a guy like Chark/St. Brown?

I could live with that.

The beauty there is that you aren't tied up long term with most of these guys and if this fails, you can remake again next year. Even Bryant carries a much lower dead money hit if he struggles again this year.

I think people are mistaken thinking Ridley or a guy like Kirk would be a replacement for Dez. Kirk wouldn't even make my Top 5 WRs in this draft.
I really like Kirk, very speedy and great hands just wish he was a little taller. Also, I thought Hurns already signed elsewhere
