That would make sense, but I don't know enough about 911 connections on a cell phone to even hazard a guess. I've never had to make one.

It depends on where your phone was registered. I was at a party a couple years ago when my friend got bit in the face by a Rotwieler. One of the guys called 9/11 on his cell but the operator told him to call from a different phone since his phone was registered in MD. Someone who had a Phone registered in Alexandria, VA had to call 9/11 on their phone to get the ambulance and police there.

She says she is willing to submit her document as evidence supporting his account. She said her fiance also took dozens of photographs that help corroborate her claims.
That certainly puts a different spin on this story.

May 19 will be an interesting day in court.

They get a "rebuttable presumption" with me. Until I see something rebutting their report, I'll presume they're truthful. Nothing here rebuts anything in the original reports.

I just wanted to make sure I understood on what grounds you were basing your opinion.

"I called my dad and told him, 'Call 911, my black friend is getting beaten up by police on Lake Travis,' " said Elizabeth Cartwright

Do people actually still talk like that in Texas?

Devi's Cove is where people typically anchor and party. It's not uncommon for the authorities to go from boat to boat doing "safety checks" which is basically their foot in the door to check for illegal activity. I would say there is a direct correlation to how much attention you draw to yourself and how often you're stopped. If you're the guy with the 30 foot boat with 15 loud people on board and the music blaring, you're probably going to be the first boat they check.

Oh my. That'll play well in the locker room.

You've obviously never been accosted by the police, there's nothing funny about it.

Things have changed in the last few years thanks to GPS. Most 911 call centers can fix the location of cell phone calls and the calls go to the right place when they're made. Travis County has that ability.

Just to be clear, Devil's Cove is a popular spot on Lake Travis. Boats anchor up and tie together and it's one big party. Everyone there is drinking.

Yes, and each year there is usually a boat or two involved in accidents after leaving DC.

Interesting.

I thought all Cell Phones, regardless of whether they were in-service/out-of-service had to have the ability to call 911.

It was my understanding that the problem lies in the ability of the abulance/police to track your location when using a Cell Phone.

I never knew this, but she is an English Major at UT, so the chances she has an out of state cell are remote. More likely she panicked and simply called who she does when that happens...Dad.

That and the locations of the cell phone tower that transmits the call.

Not really. I think she was implying to her dad that there were racial motives for the perceived police brutality.

I'd say I am surprised, but really, with cops, nothing surprises me.

Yep. And each time there is a drowning involving alcohol and boating accidents, everyone wants to know why there aren't more police patrolling and investigating to prevent it.

They usually call their Mom or the G-card, depending on the situation.

Yeah, well, none of us were actually there with a video camera, so we have to base our opinions on something. Non-rebutted police reports tend to be a good place to start.

Can you blame him, really?

He's big. He's black. And the pigs are showing up.

I'd be scared too.

Police Reports are always accurate?

I know most are inclined to give the benefit of the doubt tends to the boys in blue, but a police report still only represents "one side of the argument".

Ive gotten to where I dont trust any police as far as I could throw them. When I was 19, I bought a black 98 Mustang GT, I owned if for 6 months and was pulled over 23 times and not given a single ticket. Always some lame excuse like "you didnt use your turn signal", which is ********, who wouldnt use thier turn signal with a cop following them? The cop would always check to make sure I had insurance, run my drivers liscense and let me go. I sold the car, bought a little 97 Jetta, been driving it for 7 years now and havent been pulled over one time. This was bad enough and got me weary of the cops.

Then, this little incident happened about 3 weeks ago. Im currently a bartender at a pretty popular bar on Lake Granbury. The other night I was walking to my car after a very long shift, when a cop in the parking lot pulls up rolls down his window and says "Hey boy, you walking to your car there after a night of drinking?". To which I respsonded "no, Im walking to my car after working a 14 and a half hour shift, and Id like to get home without being harrased by the police". Long story short, he pulled me over as soon as I got in my car, and I was "detained" almost 2 hours and given every test under the sun. He was pissed cause I didnt let him search my car (there was nothing in there anyway, I dont do anything), and repeatedly asked me where I kept my shrooms. Ive never done a shroom in my life. Stuff like this is why I dont completely believe the police report on this incident.
