No, but a grown man calling for Mommy to make them stop is.

If his mom wasn't there then he may have called for one of his friends to make them stop. She is the one he counts on and was on the scene. He didn't say mommy and it would not be natural to call her by her name.

He will get picked on in the locker room and I am sure once this is over with he will probably laugh at that himself, but it really isn't that big of a deal. Benson has several character flaws and him calling for help from his mom is nothing compared to his other issues.

If the previous reports were right, he was out of sight of his family and friends when it happened, and if he was really scared (which this woman seems to think he was), it makes sense to call for someone close to at least come watch so it doesn't get completely out of hand. He called for his mom cause she was the close, and probably the oldest.

If you've ever been in a position where you were literally scared for your life, you might be amazed at the things you'll say and what your body will do.

My uncle was on a plane that hit some really really horrible, and prolonged turbulence, where the plane will fall for 100's of miles before the pilot would be able to right it and climb, and he said people literally urinated and defecated in their pants because they thought they were going to die.

Interesting.

I thought all Cell Phones, regardless of whether they were in-service/out-of-service had to have the ability to call 911.

It was my understanding that the problem lies in the ability of the abulance/police to track your location when using a Cell Phone.

They can track it but the problem came in that the 9/11 center it linked him to was in his home town of Anapolis MD, not Alexandria, VA. Anapolis cannot dispatch Alexandria police and EMS.

Your phone doesn't jump to the neaest 9/11 call center.

Ive gotten to where I dont trust any police as far as I could throw them. When I was 19, I bought a black 98 Mustang GT, I owned if for 6 months and was pulled over 23 times and not given a single ticket. Always some lame excuse like "you didnt use your turn signal", which is ********, who wouldnt use thier turn signal with a cop following them? The cop would always check to make sure I had insurance, run my drivers liscense and let me go. I sold the car, bought a little 97 Jetta, been driving it for 7 years now and havent been pulled over one time. This was bad enough and got me weary of the cops.

Then, this little incident happened about 3 weeks ago. Im currently a bartender at a pretty popular bar on Lake Granbury. The other night I was walking to my car after a very long shift, when a cop in the parking lot pulls up rolls down his window and says "Hey boy, you walking to your car there after a night of drinking?". To which I respsonded "no, Im walking to my car after working a 14 and a half hour shift, and Id like to get home without being harrased by the police". Long story short, he pulled me over as soon as I got in my car, and I was "detained" almost 2 hours and given every test under the sun. He was pissed cause I didnt let him search my car (there was nothing in there anyway, I dont do anything), and repeatedly asked me where I kept my shrooms. Ive never done a shroom in my life. Stuff like this is why I dont completely believe the police report on this incident.

There are too many examples, both widely known and those from one's personal experiences that suggest that the law is not infallable and do make mistakes.

Furthermore, there is no question some cops participate in profiling, though it is not always based on Race.

Makes sense.

Thanks for the info.

It is 100s of feet since planes don't get more than 10 miles in the air. A few of my friends have been on those types of flights.

Celebrity profiling may be in play in this case.

Not really. I think she was implying to her dad that there were racial motives for the perceived police brutality.

And she thinks that's accomplished by calling him "my black friend"?

People are stupid.

So when you were in your situations where you were so scared, did you call for your mom, too?

He didn't say, "Hey someone come witness this", he asked for his mom to make them stop. When a 230-lb professional athlete in the prime of his life does that, yes, I think it's funny.

And Good Gawd, why all the melodrama? Why would Benson be "scared for his life"? Were the police going to kill him?

It amazes me that so many people assume that the Austin Gestapo went on a manhunt for poor innocent Cedric just so they could harass and pepper spray him. Maybe the police story could actually be correct and he was resisting arrest? Why is that so hard to believe?

Doesn't matter, half the board made up their mind on the incident without knowing there might possibly be another side and no one believes a friend of the accused.

just 1/2??? we're getting better.

it takes time and experience to learn not to judge things so quickly.

I'll hold all judgement until everything comes out. She came forward after she felt his reputation was being tarnished, so I wouldn't put it past her to embelish upon a 'more what I heard than what I saw' story. However, I wouldn't put it past big ego river cops either.

The cops are totally out of control. Even when there is indisputable proof of them abusing their authority, they are at worst suspended with pay. They all look after one another and basically are lawless. Any person that has the ****ing audacity to even question a cop these days with be shocked into submission or sprayed in the eyes with chemicals.

They are here to protect and serve? HA, more like harrass and harm. Not one person I have ever known has said, "Wow, thank god that cop showed up". It's more like, "Oh ****, a it's a cop"

Tax collectors with a gun.

Just to be clear, Devil's Cove is a popular spot on Lake Travis. Boats anchor up and tie together and it's one big party. Everyone there is drinking.

ok. then how many more got pulled over that day?

This is true. I was often profiled as a teen because I had a fast car. I even got pulled over one time by a Volunteer Special Deputy. He lost his badge for that.

One time I got questioned by a cop for an extensive amount of time because I was sitting in my car at a park early in the morning, writing a poem for an English assignment that was due that day that I had procrastinated too long on. He not only spent 30 minutes inspecting everything he possibly could, he spent another 30 minutes parked nearby to keep an eye on me. Hey if he enjoyed watching me struggle to write a sonnet more power to him.

I wasn't in the plane, so I don't know who I would have called for. If she was on the plane and out of sight, and I thought I was about to die, I may very well have called for her. It's not about whether they were on a mission to get him, it's about being in a position you know you can't control.

I also was one of 3 black students at my highschool in the suburbs, which was actually a good school, in a good neighborhood and I have good memories of where I grew up, but suffice to say my experience with police wasn't always the same as my mostly white friends, so I've developed a penchant for waiting for both sides of a story involving police before making up my mind on what I think.

Classic "he said, she said".

After all the legal proceedings and the inevitable fattening of lawyers' pockets, I bet the situation will still be very unclear.

That's messed up. People take cynicism for attorneys too far. If anything this sounds like a situation where an attorney may do some good but you feel like turning it into some "frivilous lawsuit" cliche.

Ever been to a 3 day long party? Same thing happens. :laugh2:

I was much, much younger then but the fact of the matter, IMO, is that young people are going to party. That's just how it is.
