A Few Observations That The Super Bowl Reinforced

The Colts defense was smart enough to make opposing QBs beat them. They forced KC to throw, and they couldn't. They dared McNair to throw into tight spots without making a mistake, and he couldn't Brady almost beat them, and the vainted Colts D gave up 30+ points. Then, they made Rex beat them, and he couldn't either.

While all of this was happening, teams were trying their hardest to make someone other than Peyton Manning beat them. The Colts ran the ball very well, and Manning still did enough to win those games.

Looks to me like this is absolutely a QB league.

They stuffed Larry Johnson, they stuffed Baltimore's running game, and they did a great job all in all vs. the Bears offense as well.

You haven't been the only one to make that observation....Sanders returns the difference in the Colts D...like Night and Day.

Peyton was horrible in the playoffs and lucky to even be playing today.

The Colts winning this Superbowl really does prove defense wins championships because their defense is what turned on this post season when Peyton turned off.

Manning had almost nothing to do with any of the 4 Colts playoff wins...

they played alot better defense, ran the ball pretty good and probably got lucky to end up with games vs the Chiefs and Patriots

Its real easy to 2nd guess but im a big Hester fan and not even I would have used a 2nd round pick on a guy who showed absolutely no abilities to play any other position in the NFL other than returner.

Manning was great during the regular season.

Everything went vice versa when the playoffs started and if not for that defense Manning isnt playing today.

He tried and tried to give away playoff games but his team around him just would not let him screw it up this time.

Saying Peyton had nothing to do with all 4 playoff wins is ludicrous. The first two weeks, I'll agree. But the past two, come on.

Yes, today the running game was on, but it was a bit easier when the safeties were playing 20 yards back and the D playing for the pass. AFter the first int, Peyton pretty much just walked the team down the field.

Not to mention last week, when he threw for a meager 350 yards.

Im a Canes fan too and i've always thought Hester is just one of those guys that if you get the ball in his hands he is going to make a play.

If I could make up a position for him it would be called Playmaker and i'd find different ways to get the ball in his hands.

If that means lining him up at receiver, half back, Quarterback, or even fullback.

I also think that if he works real hard he could play somewhere in the secondary.

Hester is also a big reason im not against drafting Ted Ginn Jr in the 1st because at worst you are going to get a player that is great in the return game like Hester.

- Further proof that the most important player on the field is the QB. I think the days of "Well Trent Dilfer" did such and such are over. Trent too would have been in trouble had he been forced to shoulder the load.

- Defense wins championships is a nice cliche and that is about it.

- The AFC is better. All the moaning to the contrary is just that. Aspiring to be the best team in the NFC is nice, but all NFC teams better be shooting to be better than than the elite AFC teams.

- Devin Hester IS easily worth a second round pick.

- The Payton Manning hate can stop now, but it won't. However, he just cemented his place in history as one of the very best to play the game.

And I dont agree 100% with your QB statement either. In this case you have a great arguement because Rex Grossman is terrible and you can use that as your whole basis. What really kept the Bears defense soft though was the running of Addai and espicially that of Rhodes. It kept the Bears front 7 in check and didnt allow then to fully go after Manning.

So once again, the cliche of defense and running the ball AKA clock control did win this game for the Colts.

I think we could've done the same thing. We weren't great in teh Seattle game but we were better. If only we could've made the trip to Chicago....

Peyton didn't have to throw his arm out of the socket to win ball games. The defense was able to stop the run later in the season. That was key. To say Peyton had almost nothing to do with it is foolish. I'm sure they looked forward to Larry Johnson and Brady and crew. Yeah, lucky they got them in the playoffs.

Best observation of the Super Bowl I've seen. The offensive line of the Colts was excellent. Made all the difference. The Bears could not keep up even with the defense producing turnovers. The Colts eventually pulled away.

Peyton did help the defense tremendously by playing ball control instead of being high powered. The defense was fresh the whole game and their D requires them to stay fresh. In the AFC championship game and the superbowl the Indy O had extended drives going into halftime and got the ball back to start the 3rd with another extended drive. Pretty huge.

Yes, the defense played much better in the playoffs, but if anyone says the defense did the heavy lifting then they are crazy.

First of all Peyton Manning two so so to bad games in the playoffs, but he had two pretty good games as well. Not great, but pretty good.

Take a look back and see how many teams allowed more than 360 points this season. I think only nine teams did...could be wrong.

Look at the season as a whole. That is what I am talking about. Their defense played a pretty good game last night. Of course, the way Rex played, I am pretty sure the Detroit Lions defense would have played pretty well last night as well.
