A few thoughts moving forward

I am sure everyone is as disappointed as I am with the way this season has gone. What makes this heartbreaking is that this team has the ability to compete with anyone in the league and has the talent to be successful but the end result will prolly be in line with the 5-11 Campo teams. I remember those days when week in and week out I knew we really had no chance to win most games. This team is, I thought, different.

I think we agree that Callahan was a big loss and the o-line has not played up to its potential. That could be partly due to very predictable play calling and the lack of decent QB play for most of the season which allowed teams to stack the box or blitz at will with little or no consequence for their actions.

Murray was a big loss, period. He had a chip on his shoulder and ran with an attitude. He is a downhill runner that was gritty and would consistently make an extra yard or two each carry which, when given the parity in the league, makes a huge difference over the course of a game or season. He played with a swagger and his attitude and energy fueled this O-Line to some extent. If available, I would be all over Derrick Henry in this draft - big, strong and plays with an edge.

If Chaz Green is healthy, he needs to be in the line up. Take our lumps with him while we have our back-up QB in there. Free is not the answer at RT and we need to move forward from him. He is not mentally tough and makes critical mental errors game after game. I mean, the guy seams like he has at least one or two offsides a game. Basic football. The FO was high on Green coming out and let's see what this kid can do.

I think Mincey has not been given the playing time he deserves. When he is in the games he always seems to be causing disturbances for the offense and was our best pass rusher at the end of last year. I would like to see him play more - even if it means Hardy sitting.

I would try to sign Mo this off season. He played solid before getting injured and might not demand huge money to stay. To be honest, I am surprised he played as well as he did after the severe patella tendon rupture and knee issues. When given a chance to play man to man he has been solid. That's what he is good at and we finally gave him a chance this year. If he finishes strong I hope he is resigned. Still a talented kid that was starting to gain confidence.

Resign Rolando - I think he has one year left correct? If he can get his head right and go through a complete off season working with Mike Woicik he has a chance to be a star. He has a great feel for the game and can be an impact player with his size and instincts. He has really played well as of late and I think a large part of that is he is finally getting into top physical condition.

I love Romo and he is an elite QB but he was not healthy when he came back - I don't care what the team was saying - and he is too fragile at this stage to be relied upon. He has taken a pounding over his career and is now paying for it. If he was given the calls that Brady is given he would have 2-3 roughing the passer calls a game against him. I have seen him get absolutely pummeled in front of the refs and nothing is called. We need to find a replacement.

This has been one of the most disappointing football seasons I have ever gone through since starting to watch this team in 1977. I really thought we had a chance to be successful and turn things around as a franchise. I know this may not be popular, but I truly believe Jerry wants to win more than anyone and does his best to put the best team he can on the field week in and week out. He is not going anywhere and if you think he is the reason the team has not met expectations, maybe this team is not for you.

I hope we win out and can still make the playoffs by some miracle, and it would be a miracle. I am thinking 5-11 or 6-10.

Like most of you, this is my team through thick and thin and I will be wearing my team gear and taking my lumps as always. Hang in there Cowboys fans!!!

Speaking for myself, I pin my hopes on Jerry seeing the light at least to the extent that he once again hires a strong, well qualified HC.

I think he has a great deal of confidence in Garrett and I doubt he makes a change. I like Garrett and think he is OK and can get better. Look at some of the success that Lewis and Rivera have had this year after some very poor seasons - Garrett could do the same. I will say that I would love to see Sean Payton on our sidelines running the show and I think Jerry has a great deal of respect for him as a coach.

We deserve a well qualified coach because we're the Cowboys! Jerry had his head on straight when he hired Parcells but his history of coach selection is poor.

All depends on how the rest of the season and, perhaps, the beginning of next season goes.

jerry jones may want to win but for 20 years now they have not they have won couple playoff games and never have had back to back winning seasons jones mistakes in thedrafts and stupid trades have continually cost the boys season after season. Now garrett is running a system with a older qb that gets him hit a lot needs to make adjustments he and his staff aren't very good but they will be here next year and the results will be near the same.

A well thought out OP that didn't mention Garrett one time and that is your response? Please limit those type of response to one of the other Garrett bashing threads we already have.

Would if we were to end those types of posts with a "Derp!" in a mocking fashion

Example:

Garrett must go, Derp!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think losing Murray was that big of a deal. It's not like he is lighting it up in Philadelphia. Losing Callahan was bigger than losing Murray but that was inevitable. Better Qb play would help also.

Yep..

I've seen enough of the rinse and repeat game plan from week to week.

We'll line up next year and do the same things and just hope it goes better.

All of the Training camp news and everything is just a bunch of BS. It's just more of the same.

Yep. If the offense doesn't change it will be status quo around here. People say Romo is too old to learn a new offense, but if we were to hire Payton he wouldn't have to. It would be a match made in heaven and we could be SB favorites next season. But no, it won't happen! :(

LOL...Absolutely Amazing.
Garrett been ragged on for years, gets the team one ripped off play away from the NFC Title game, which we could have won. Fans say he has finally got it, keep him.
INJURIES...derailed this year, period....and yet fans are back on the hate Garrett wagon, fire him type posts.

Yes, play calling, has not seemed to be very good. But there are reasons for that...No Romo, No Dez, other nagging injuries, suspensions...yes this falls upon the coaching staff, as well as the FO to a degree. I have even made comments about it, as we should, but in a constructive way. As all these small and large things add up. It frustrates us. Understand football [sports / life] 101 is recommended here.

We do not need a coaching change. We may need a few positional coaching changes. Does Pollack get another year, probably.
But we do need a new secondary coach IMO, as well as do we need a new DT coach, Lett may not be the right coach. Let Marinelli be the DC, and get a true DE coach. Better yet, get a DL coach, and Lett can be an assistant DL coach. New RB's coach as well as WR coach, I could go for that.

We need to draft a QB and RB in the first 2 rounds. That would be a great start. They are there to be had. And also they would most likely be BPA too, for those in thsat camp. Which I am, but sometimes you need to alter the plan.

Very good OP.

I think we need a WR in rnd 1. At this point as long as someone buries the Giants this year I'll be happy.

You must have missed Thursday's game. They were'nt competitive or successful against one of the better teams in the league. This team has some major issues.

I didn't insult or bash anyone
I followed the rules
Just expressed my opinion
You just don't happen to like it

What I said had nothing to do wether or not I liked your post.

You expressed your opinion on something that had nothing to do with the OP. There are many Garrett bashing threads to chose from since that was your intention. No reason to pollute this thread with more of those kind of posts.

Our defense held them to one td, I thought they played pretty well.

Murray is a north and south runner and does not fit the scheme in Filthy. That has been widely discussed and agreed upon. We miss having a lead back that plays with an edge and can get an extra yard or two over and over again. Say what you will but the Offense was different with Murray in the game ever since he arrived - not just last year.
