I don’t care if they’re already thinking about Pickens’ replacement — the priority has to be fixing the defense. That should be non‑negotiable. We already have a top‑three offense and two wide receivers who are easily top five at their position. If the Cowboys burn a first‑round pick on another receiver instead of addressing the defense, I’m going to be furious.

All that would do is highlight how poorly this front office is being run. Not even trying to sign Pickens, then turning around and wasting a first‑round pick on a receiver, would be the clearest sign yet that they have no real plan.

Can’t do that if they take offense. Could get you another Gavin Escobar or Schoonmaker
There are 3 1st round talent receivers in this draft. It was consensus on both Taco and Mazi they were reaches. Same could be said about the second round tight ends, but I don't see how bringing up the worst drafting 2nd round team in the league to the first round. It's clear we all want defense, already off the board not going to look up how to spell their names, Bain, Mesidore, and Mccoy.

I got a bad feeling the GIant's are gonna walk away with 2 blue chip prospects and we will walk away with Delane and Lawrence type prospects and neither will be great.

I strongly disagree with the OP. Defense is obviously preferred, but the pick depends on BPA. If that's a WR then so be it, pull the trigger.
If there was ever a time to chase position over BPA it would be if there are all offensive players between 10-15 pick. Of course trading down would be my first choice.

If I have all new tires on my car why would I buy one that I don't need.
I have a full set of winter tires I swap out on my car every year. Plus if I found a set of tires that were a good enough deal I'd be tempted to buy them even if I didnt need them. Worst case I don't have to worry about my current set going bad early, and best case I could possibly profit on the resale market when prices go back up.

Plus we are talking about pro athletes here where the better analogy may be nascar tires rather than anyones Carolla. In the NFL you often need to swap out those tires every 50 laps to keep maximum traction and avoid a blowout.

At the end of the day the draft is about getting talent.
The downside to the draft is unless you are picking 1st, you don't have the ability to get exactly who you want.

Say pick 12 rolls around, no one is calling to move up, the remaining defensive players Dallas Front office/scouts aren't aligned with the media. Should they take the 22nd best player on their board which in this example is an edge? Or take the 9th best player which is a WR?

I get wanting to go defensive heavy. In theory I want that too. But at the same time I don't want that classic 2nd round we got to draft a DT or corner mindset at any time in the draft. Cause that gets us a T. Hill or Kelvin Joseph.

Yeah, let's draft another WR at 20, too. Or maybe Ioane, so that they have three first round OGs.

Relax guys. I'm thinking we will stand pat with the 12th pick and take a really good player. Not every player needs to be glitz and glamour. For some reason I feel like we will get a key cog in the new CP defense at 12. Nothing he does btw, works unless we generate pass rush and run stuffing. Thats why the first pick won't be linebacker or corner/safety. I'm thinking Bain or Mesidor. Either guy helps tremendously day 1. You fix teams from the inside out.

100 percent....get the best value, figure it out after.

Team needs good football players

If we pick a WR, they would only do that if they had a trade lined up for Pickens. That said, pick 12 is likely to be either packaged in a trade up or trade back. I'll be shocked if we sit there at 12 and just take the next man up on our board.
