A forgotten, but strangely fun losing season

He was holding on FGs that year because he started the year as the backup QB to Bledsoe. It was very regular for the backup QB to be the teams placeholder too. Romo became the starter mid-way through the season. You don't all of a sudden change the kickers holder in the middle of the season. They are a fragile breed, they can get get all messed up real quick- as we all saw last year. I would imagine Parcels kept him doing that so as not to upset or cause any problems with the kicking game, which is smart.
The moment he was the starting QB, those duties should have been reassigned. For the EXACT reason of what happened. Nothing smart about it.

ole number 31, when he was a hitting machine.
It annoys me to no end when I see fans ranking the hardest hitting safeties, and RW31 is left out.

We all know what happened to his career, but to this day, he's still the hardest hitting safety I've ever seen and it's not particularly close.

For frame of reference I started watching football in the early 90s.

Like I said, not smart to disrupt what your field goal kicker is used to right at the halfway point in a season. That is not smart at all. Look what happened last year with Maher. He was so great all year, then they wouldn't let them use that marker and he fell apart just like that. For some reason kickers can be a fragile bunch. It is easily the most frustrating position in football. If things are going good, you don't want to change anything associated with the kicker.

In the end, I’m a Cowboys fan like you and everyone on this forum.

And I’m certainly no football genius but I’ve watched a lot of football for many years. But I do know this much…the hardest position to nail down is an elite NFL quarterback. Get that and your chances increase exponentially.
Have you heard the story about how the Cowboys came to the decision to draft Dak in the first place?

It's facincating. And disproves Jerry is a lazy GM. He has upped his game over the past decade or so.

You can't buy a player at every position so you pay people who excel at evaluating. The key is actually listening to them. I think Jerry does that

Plus, the midseason memo was aimed at us. So he should clean up his relationships with the powers that be..if he does that, I can't think of much else I don't like other than the fact he gets involved with the coach's jobs and gives pep talks to individual players. I dont like that bc its too much pressure.

Overall, I feel like he's finally listening to the team behind him.

If you go back and look, nobody hit harder than Darren Woodson.

My favorite hit of all time was the one that made Emmitt cry. I had so much disdain for Emmitt by that time it was glory.

I don’t remember anything fun about going 5-11 for the third consecutive year. Every one of those seasons under Campo were pure misery.
And it started out with the 2000 season opener: a Sunday mid-afternoon game nationally televised on FOX (Summerall & Madden).
The infamous "Pickle Juice Game".

Those teams generally weren't fun to watch because the offense was so bad, but they did have some fun players in those years.

The hit on Emmitt against Arizona at the LOS was Roy Williams, unless you're referring to a different play.

Jerry wanted his own Donovan McNabb.
The fact that Parcells turned him into a playoff quarterback ranks up there with raising the dead and walking on water. ;)
That to me…is one of the greatest coaching accomplishments ever in sports. He had Quincy Carter and Troy Hambrick…
Incredible. Jason Garrett had Romo, Witten, Dez, and some other players who are HoFers and could barely make the playoffs.
