A Little Bird Tells Me Chris Simms Is Going to be Waived

His father playing for BP is actually another strike against him going there as well. When BP spoke of Chris Simms, it was in a 'Uncle Bill' kind of way. Parcell's has known him well since he was a little kid. Simms and BP were closer than nearly all of his players, so there were plenty of times with that kid underfoot.

IMO, It'd have been like coaching family, and I always got the vibe BP wasn't comfortable in Simms' case. At his age, screaming obscenities to a guy who you used to pat on the head when they were 5 seemed like something he'd want to avoid. (especially if he wasn't confident in Simms' success).

Just a read I got the last time Simms was rumored to be available a few years back. (From both BP and Phil Simms)
Exactly.

Like I said, I am just relaying what he told me.

I'm on the "bring him in and make him 2nd string QB" bandwagon. Only problem is, as soon as Romo struggles, half the board will be begging Wade to start Simms over Romo and the other half will be clawing their brains out.

It could get ugly.

how good of a holder is he?

if johnson does one thing great at this point in his career, it is holding for FGs and PATs...

I see where ESPN is reporting that Culpepper turned down a 1yr/1mil offer from the Packers.

Thought that to be interesting. If their QB (brain fart, can't think of his name and too lazy to look it up right now) falters he may have had a good shot to step in and earn his way to a bigger contract next year.

Aaron Rodgers.

Culpepper is crazy. That kid's a daisy.

You are the biggest rumor monger..!!

Hahahaaa..!!

First Roy Williams..now Chris Simms.

What about that rule about no rumor posts..?

just kidding.

I think if BP was here, we'd pursue this.

But now..?

Don't think so.

I really think this team isn't really ready for a championship run without an upgrade at QB behind Romo.

That is clearly our biggest depth problem at the most important position.

When the Cowboys finally address that situation and bring in a younger QB with starter experience to backup Romo and either let Grandpa go or drop him to #3..

..then I think our intentions to really make a run at a SB hasn't been set in concrete.

In past years, we always had a capable experienced, younger, backup on our SB caliber teams..Garrett..Kosar, Steve Berelien (sp.).

Not Brad Johnson. He hasn't started in a few years, doesn't have the arm to get the ball downfield with any velocity and if Romo went down for any length of time..the offense would be in deep trouble with Johnson.

I'm a little surprised Garrett is still keeping him around. I'm sure he's there more as a mentor to Romo rather than his value as true backup. But they really need a Qb that could play for more than a few games and be effective if needed.

Simms might be a good choice, but he seems to have some issues as he's bounced around now a good bit.

Maybe one of those draft choices we traded for in '09 might be a good investment in a trade for Simms, but I'm not clear on what Dallas is really doing with that concern.

But thanks anyway..Rumor Monger.

there was a story recently in SI (online) that both Leftwich and Culpepper were being shunned by prospective employers because both QBs had um, intellectual . . . brain-processing . . . the story implied and I inferred that they were kinda dumb and had trouble grasping the systems.

In NFL circles, this is known as Jason Campbell Syndrome... :D

I just cant see why a team like Chicago or Minny wouldnt be all over Leftwich.

if you watch him play, you could see why

the guy is fat as hell and has maybe the slowest release ever...

I still cant believe people thought we should have picked him over Newman in 2003

The rule about rumors is don't post false ones.

Was the Roy Williams "rumor" false or true? After I posted this I also found an article that mentioned it.

Does the Tampa Tribune article make this rumor false or true?

Why did I post this? Because I've made no secret of the fact I'd like us to sign Chris Simms. Notice I didn't add anything about him going to sign here. I didn't find wild and speculative ways to get him in Dallas.

That's the difference. The kinds of rumors we don't want are where people have an agenda and go to other forums to find a storyline and they post it as fact. That's why yardbarker is such a crap site. Their entire content is not news driven, it's Internet forum driven.

Simms being released isn't really news. He has been asking for it forever.

We need The Spleen to be Tony Simpson's backup........

SPLEEN SPLEEN SPLEEN...........

Gotcha. I understand that you were relaying info. Just stating my reasoning as to why I think the BP/Simms connection is actually a negative as far as Miami acquiring him.

People know he coached his father and assume that he'll want to coach/(manage?) his son. In this particular case, I think that's exactly why he would not.

He speculates that Miami will go after him.

If I were Simms I'd try the Bears or Vikings. I think he could possibly start either place.

I'd love to have him as our 3rd QB and eventually Johnson's replacement, but don't see it.

bears yes, the vikings not so much. I dont believe they are ready to give up on Jackson. He was decent last season

Dude he was far from decent. Actually, he was terrible..

I doubt he'd want to go anywhere that has an established #1 QB.

He's not gonna have a choice.

the dude has no one to throw to and went what? 8-4 in his 12 starts

Simms has put on a lot more bulk. He's not the same frail guy he was before the spleen injury.

You guys can crack jokes about that all you want but the kid was very close to passing away.

I'm trying to figure out which one is worse, Leftwich or Simms... could probably flip a coin there.
