I was hoping that Julius would become the back that he looked like he would be his rookie year.. Maybe with a new coach he can be.. But honestly, I have given up that thought..

I would LOVE for this little rumor to be true.. I doubt it, but I would love it.. I truly think that Peterson is going to be special.. If you have seen him run at all, you know he is special.. He was the best player in the country when he was a freshman.. He is a freak in terms of size, speed, and talent..

I do think that the big piece missing from our offense is a dominant RB.. We don't have an elite guy.. We might have two better than average guys (maybe), but we don't have a great one.. Can you imagine Romo, Peterson, TO, Glenn, and Witten?? Wow.. People are so concerned with lots of players, lots of draft picks.. Bullcorn.. We have plenty of players.. Let's make a move and get a playmaker..

The last time that we traded up to get a RB in the first round, it turned out pretty good, didn't it? Playmakers win Super Bowls.. Let's go get another playmaker..

I've been getting the feeling we might move up (not necessarily for AP though).

Think about it, why stay where we are? If we resign Colombo we have ZERO glaring needs. We can either stay and take the BPA (literally), trade down and stockpile picks for the 2008 draft, or trade up and pick a top notch player.

Personally, I don't think AP is worth trading up for, but I can see JJ falling in love with the name and moving up for him.

Peterson??? C'mon man. All the needs on this team and we're going to move up to get a rb who hasn't completed a season since he was a freshman?

I agree with you about AP, but what are all these needs you speak of? The only need we have right now is RT. If Colombo resigns then we have ZERO "Needs".

JJ is in the final year of his contract. Lewis just signed for one year. So realistically the Browns no longer have an interest in Peterson. But we would not be trading to them= since they would have no need of JJ since they also have Droughns. The Bucs at 4 will go for Calvin Johnson. Vikings at 7 are the most likely to want Peterson. But once again if they need a back JJ is only signed for one year. SoI think he is out of the idea on the trade.

Just cuz JJ is going into his last year doesn't make it unlikely we'd trade him. If anything, it makes it likely we'd be targeting a RB.

No way he falls that far. 7 or 8 really at most.

That's what they said about Stephen Jackson. They also said it about Deuce McAllister.

It could happen.

This is the point I've been trying to sell.

You see "the" player you want. Depending on the evaluation of Wade Phillips on this defense, as far as we know, he may think that our defense is just fine.

As a matter of fact, I begrudgingly watched the home debacle of the Cowboys/Eagles game where they blew us out 23-7 last night, and I was shocked at some of the things Parcells had us doing on defense, it made absolutely no sense.
1 scenario: Eagles were in a 4 wide set with the TE down forming a sort of trips looks to the right. How did we respond?

We responded with 4 lbrs, and our base set. So we had Carpenter and Ware both covering slot receivers (unbelievably) Roy and Watkins are forced to help on the slot guys, leaving the TE one on one with a slow LB, toasting him for a touch down.

In other words, This may not be a talent problem on defense. Wade may think that we never blitzed, therefore never putting pressure on the QB unless Ware broke lose, and thus our defense is not to blame, but the scheme is.

In this case, this means that we can now afford to go after a star player. I don't know who the star players are, but I've read a little bit on WR Calvin Johnson and i've seen a few of his highlight catches, and after seeing his combine numbers mixed with his domination on the field, he seems like a legitimate star. Peterson looks like a solid candidate as well.

If you can move up by swapping your 1st round picks this year, maybe giving a player of value like JJ, and then giving them a next years 1 and a 2 this year, you will only miss out on a 2 this year, and a 1 next year. But the return is a dominate WR or RB, a solid passing game, a solid and HUGE oline, and an attack style defense.

Change "Parcells" to "Zimmer" and I agree 100%.

Zimmer was our DCoord, not Parcells.

It really was not fair to Zimmer to make him try and learn the 3-4. But JJ wanted Zimmer around and BP went along with it. I will bet that BP regretted that last year. IN 2005 we had to keep it simple since everyone was learning a new Defense. But by mid 2006 we should have been putting more complicated formations, doing more blitzing, but Zimmer just did not know enough on how to do it. And by then BP was so busy working on Romo that he did not have time to work on the D himself. And since he never used complicated blitz packages himself... The whole thing was doomed. If we had gotten an experienced 3-4 guy I things could have been very different.

I like your little birdie! It's time this team made a real impactful splash in the draft again. This team is in dire need of a youthful draft movement on the Offensive side of the ball. Someone who can immediately come in and be a starting star for us from day 1. We haven't had that in a long time. And let's just face it, the odds dwindle of that happening the further down on the draft board that you are, especially in the primary positions like RB/QB/WR. I would love nothing more than for us to bring in that possible Emmitt replacement. We've done nothing but make substandard moves towards replacing him up to this point, it's time that changes. Maybe most don't agree with Peterson, but atleast it's a move in the right direction. I'll snap if we go defense in round 1 again, and especially after just bringing in a 3-4 master at the head coaching position to fine tune what we already got. Also imo, not a time to be trading down, either. With a new coach and a new hunger on this team, it's hightime we go for broke and see what we got, NOW, not later, and especially not in 2008. No reason for us to settle with what we got at the RB position, we never did before so why should we start now.. JuJo has had his time to try 'n shine and still we just don't know. Though really, that "not knowing" still after so much time, isn't that kinda our definate knowing? It shouldn't take this long, period. Plus it's not as if we invested much in him, only a 2nd round pick, this loss would be minimal to say the least. And so what if he goes on to do something great somewhere else, for the time he's been with us he's done nothing. I need to see nothing more from this guy. Like I said before in another thread, we're the Dallas Cowboys and we don't have decades to waste! Let another blink of an eye go by and we could be looking at a decade wasted. I've seen enough.

Everyteam has needs. Even the colts. We were 9-7 last year, not 15-1

Needs.....LG. I'm not sold on Kosier. We need depth throughout the Oline.

Wideouts are gettin up there in years (although I don't see us drafting early for one this year)

I'd like to trade Julius and a pick for an upgrade. Julius isn't the answer.

We need another pass rusher, No way Ellis comes back to his former self. Not with an achilles injury. People have to quit smoking the pipe on that one.

Aaron Glen is no spring chicken, so we're very thin at CB. God forbid TNew or Henry went down.

Watkins is still a questionmark, but I'm really pulling for the kid

We have no punt returner. My heart skips a beat every time I see TNew back there taking punishing blows.

So as far as I'm concerned, we have plenty of needs.

That said, I'd love to get Adrian Peterson, and see if he's the real deal, but I just don't see us moving that far up to take him.

there is no possible way that giving up what we would have to give up to make a pick that high could be worth it for ADRIAN PETERSON.

are you serious? he's a nice back, but no thanks.

i'm pretty happy with the 1700 yard, 18 touchdown combo in our backfield right now.

and that was just on the ground. and mostly without TT in the mix.
