A Minor Comparison

Team 1...380 yards of Offense
Team 2...308 yards of Offense

Team 1...24 first downs
Team 2...18 first downs

Team 1...5 of 13 on 3rd down
Team 2...3 of 11 on 3rd down

Team 1...34:03 time of possession
Team 2...33:43 time of possession

Team 1 should have scored 14 points, a holding penalty negated it.

Team 2 did score 14 points and is considered the best Offense in the NFL with the best Offensive mind in the NFL.

Both teams played teams whose defenses are their strengths.

What is the main difference here? There are two. Emotional attachment and too many penalties from our team.

On the penalty front Rex Ryan, a great disciplinary type coach we have been told, his team committed 14 penalties for 125 yards last night.

Morale of this story...don't jump off the ledge after week 1. Hell don't even climb out on the ledge yet.

I have said it a couple times before in the past couple days but it bears saying again. What did we learn from Sunday night:

This team is extremely talented but is still going to make crucial dumb mistakes. I am going to enjoy the heck out of this season, we have a lot, A LOT, of players that are going to be all time greats, we are going to beat some very good teams and we are going to play some very good football; however, we will not make it to the super bowl because at some point these dumb errors will cost us a critical game, whether that be in the first round of the playoffs or the NFCC I do not know, but it will happen. It sucks and it will especially suck when that game occurs because if we could just get rid of the stupid mindless mistakes we would win it all (most likely) but we won't (or likely won't).

So Hos, you are right, there is absolutely no reason to go jumping now. This team is ubber talented, and we are going to have a great season. I think the response of the "jumpers" here is from the realization that this team is not exactly what they thought it was (and this was me last year until I figured it out). What these "jumpers" need to do is realize this team is a very good team (The mid 00s eagles, the mid 00s mavs, the Dandy Don Cowboys, the "Next Year's Team" Cowboys) but like all those teams, a team that is missing just one or two critical pieces to get it up over the top.

So jumpers, don't jump, enjoy this season, it is rare we see a team this talented, but, realize what this team is, I think only then can you really enjoy this team and this season.

I'll concede San Diego. But Indy has been good for years, hardly missing the playoffs and multiple Superbowls. Fans would be nuts to overreact to that. Dallas on the other hand has been mediocre in the post-season department since.... you know when so I don't have to repeat it.
It is nuts to over react at all. That is my point.

It is 1 week.

That was a full house response man.

Cutting Choice, that's an over-reaction, a big one, in my mind. I don't disagree with you ONE bit on that.

But I don't think being reactionary to the state of this OLINE and some of the problems Dallas has shown in the recent past as being an overreaction, just a very observant reaction.

Rex Ryan/ Buddy Ryan teams will always have lot of penalties...its their persona...aggressive ...maybe little too aggressive...but their teams are a bear to beat. If i had a choice...give me the penalty filled team who has jaws of steel looking to take your head off instead of a penalty filled team...who give post game interviews smiling and saying...well get em next time.

Rex Ryan's jets were one of the least penalized teams in the league last year.

Where did I call commentary on the OL to be over reacting?

Well I get the sense that you thought that that's the way I feel. I've never been a part of that whole cut Choice, cut Wade/Garrett mid season stuff.

I consider myself pretty grounded in reality.

I'm losing faith in Garrett. But I don't know that you cut him mid-season. I'm losing faith in Wade as a HC but again, not sure you cut him mid-season. He'd be a great DC but I doubt he ever agrees to work that spot and accept a demotion.

Tell me the time frame and let's go to war.

Well, considering that the Saints won the Superbowl LAST SEASON I figure that would be a good place to start

Indianapolis lost to a division rival that has never been to the playoffs.

Indy lost to a much better team than Washington, and they lost because Houston was just flat out better. They didnt kill themselves.

San Diego lost to a division rival who has been in the top 5 of the Draft for 3 straight years and has won a total of 10 games in those 3 years where as the Commanders have won 21.

And Norv Turner is in the same boat as Wade Phillips. Good teams, never great, teams always derail themselves.

Team 1: 3 penalties for 20 yards, played one of the top 5 teams in the NFL, are the defending Superbowl champions and flaunted their unflappable will to win last year

Team 2: 12 penalties for 91 yards, played the NFC East bottom feeder, and has a history of losing games due to mental errors, penalties, and a lack of discipline and fire

Just sayin Hos
You said it better than I did.

Thank you. That is my point. You can cherry pick one season and feel like you have a point when the fact of the matter is you don't.

I'll just stick with my team, the Dallas Cowboys. Time for game 2.

You're saying he cherry picked one season. You're cherry picking other games around the league and comparing them to us.

Here's a fact, if the teams you chose to compare us to weren't recently successful either last year or had Superbowl appearances recently then they likely suck.

Neither of which we see the Cowboys as. We haven't won Superbowls or been in Superbowls lately and we sure as heck don't suck.

I get tired of this what is good for everyone else should be good for the Cowboys. We've been repeating this same line for years now. Sure, if you want to enjoy the ride (As Romo would say) and enjoy watching a team we support financially and emotionally lose that's your choice. But don't try to invalidate or strike down the opinions of others who take their football a little more seriously.

There is no disputing the fact that Sean Payton has a Superbowl ring and Wade Phillips does not. There is no disputing that Wade Phillips' teams fail no matter where he goes for the exact same reasons. There is no disputing that New Orleans did not commit the mistakes nor have the mental lapses that Dallas did.

These are documented facts. There are no opinions on the matter. You can look up the results and stats and prove these statements to be true.

There's also another fact that Payton used to be on our staff.

There is also no disputing the fact that Sean Payton was barely above .500 until last year. 25-23 for his career.

He has a great team with a great QB and deserves the success. But a "pass?"

No team deserves a pass where we deserve none. That is absolutely stupid. That is jump on the bandwagon mentality and check to make sure the weather is good.

That's the way the league works, Hostile. I know you know that. Eli was always considered a good QB to atleast above average, what happened when he won the SB with the Giants?

Hostile;3558265 said:
Congrats, he was wrong.

Again, facts. Unbiased, documented facts.

New Orleans won the SB last year

Every team Wade Phillips has ever coached finished the year in the top 6 in most penalties per game. In Dallas, his teams have finished 2nd, 1st and 3rd. No coach in NFL history has a higher penalty per season stat than Wade does in his right full years as a head coach.

If you disagree with my opinion fine, but you cannot disagree with the facts

Sean Payton lost due to a lack of talent. His teams never had the penalties and attitude that Wade's teams do.

Payton also doesnt have a lifelong history of failure for multiple franchises

Wade just doesnt coach discipline. The numbers speak for themselves.
