A new team is developing

Dogs....we finally have some dogs on defense

1. Parsons is an Alpha - something this team has sorely needed.
2. Diggs - a playmaker in the secondary. Complete opposite of our CB's in the past.
3. Wilson/Kearse - both play aggressive at SS and can be game changers.
4. Odighizuwa - plays with an attitude. When Gallimore gets back - look out for this group to make a jump.
5. Kazee/Hooker - Health, health, health - if they can both stay healthy - it's the best FS group since Woodson. Smart, aggressive and physical.

I've said it from the beginning about Booger. The problem is not if the team is struggling because he becomes scarce. It's when the team is doing something well we have to worry about his involvement because he will swoop in for credit and self praise and that's already started 2 games in.

As fans, we have to always be concerned about his level of involvement........especially when the times are good.

I'm not even saying he is an idiot and his input hurts....it just sends the wrong message about the staffs real authority.

It's not the reason we win or lose every week, but it has and will have its long term effects on the team.

This is why we only have puppet type coaches. Most won't have this.....and definitely not your stronger personality types (typically better coaches).

Bottom line is he sees something promising and wants his beak in just in case someone tries to say it wasn't all him all along.

It's disgusting is what it is....and I guess he has "ahrned dat raht" but I don't have to like it...or him.

I really don't even need him to quit....just shut up.

Better shot at him quitting.

Yep. It is inevitably gonna happen at some point this year I believe as well.

As others have stated previously, overcoming success has historically been a major challenge for this team to overcome. At the root of this problem is all that you mention here.

We know who we are on offense. It’s a high powered group with a razor thin offensive line. Any injuries on the line will derail us offensively.

I agree with you on defense as the personnel has changed greatly from last season.

Special teams we are comfortably below average. Our coverage units are maybe the worst in the league and it’s been that way for years.

We’ve missed one stared each game and by all accounts I’ve seen their backups did well.

I’ll say this. I know a lot of you are still terrified any time we go on defense but I’m the opposite.

Im actually excited when we go on defense and it doesn’t feel like I’m watching the other special teams.

I know we’re giving up yards but I feel like we got guys capable of making plays.

Id love to see what it looks like when the Full unit is healthy and Dallas decides Jaylon shouldn’t be on the field.

And Jaylon Kearse.. Looks really good.

Also, don’t sleep on that Holton Hill signing. I haven’t watched him since he came out of school but that guy had potential. I’d like to know his background in the league.

Mickey mentioned that PFF had Martin as the highest rated player, but the coaches had Kearse as the highest rated player last week. Dude looked like a beast.

No he isnt but there's also a reason why people quit working well before they push 80.

The whole thing with his idol Al Davis got fairly ugly toward the end.

There's absolutely NO reason an owner OR GM should have a regular radio show. No one else does.

His relationships with players lead to bad decisions repeatedly.

I mean before the surgery. He played very well and wanted to be the man. But Your right, after the surgery…. Wait actually the year he held the team hostage and refused to get surgery and did nothing the following year because he wasn’t healed up. That’s when he lost my support. But before that he played well. Remember the lions game where he got 2 sacks to close the game out. We needed a player and he stepped up. Not since his surgery has he earned that money. I mean before that.

Pre-contract Tank was a bit of an enigma. There was evidence to support the idea that he was a good and potentially a break out player and all he needed was more help around him and the sacks would follow. But he WAS getting more sacks pre-contract.

I didn’t want Tank signed at the number a week paid him, simply because even in his best years he was just a solid defender who was good against the run, but just a moderate pressure player/sack artist.

In fairness no one knew for sure what Tank was, but we paid him as if he was already Donald. Very few of those contracts turn out to be the right thing to do.

I would rather have saved the cap room, and got a 3rd round comp pick for his departure. Hindsight is 20/20 and I get that but the risk vs reward on that contract were very poor from the outset.

As I watch the many threads on our forum, it is clear that most of us fans have a “narrative” about what this team is and isn’t. It’s based on past performance. And that’s normal and understandable.

But I want to challenge all Cowboys fans to keep your eyes open to what this 2021 team can become. This team is the second youngest team in the NFL. On the current 53 man roster, 21 players were not on the team last year. That means that almost 40% of this roster is new to the Cowboys.

The truth is, it takes at least 6-8 games- maybe more- for an NFL team to develop an identity. With 40% of this roster being new to the Cowboys, give this team some time to develop into something. None of us really know much about this team…yet.

I like what I'm seeing! This team seems different and has a lot of fight in it. They do need time to develop but things are looking better. I don't feel like they are the predictable offense and Dak who I have been critical of is getting better. I thought Parsons would be good but I did t know he would have an effect this quick on the defense.

I didn’t want Tank signed at the number a week paid him, simply because even in his best years he was just a solid defender who was good against the run, but just a moderate pressure player/sack artist.

In fairness no one knew for sure what Tank was, but we paid him as if he was already Donald. Very few of those contracts turn out to be the right thing to do.

I would rather have saved the cap room, and got a 3rd round comp pick for his departure. Hindsight is 20/20 and I get that but the risk vs reward on that contract were very poor from the outset.

When he let the window elapse to get that shoulder fixed and heal up for the next season I lost respect. Even if we didn’t sign him someone would have paid him. But when he held that up and used it then I knew he was about himself.

Now was there a small chance the surgery went wrong or he didn’t wake up…. Yes. And if he came out and said he wanted security for his family before he went under the knife then maybe it would not have hit me so wrong. But the way it was handled and the amount he wanted. I wanted to let him walk.

Ya think Elliot or his agent looked at that deal 2 years before he was due a contract. He saw JJ would cave on that. JJ did it with Dez. Now I never expected Elliot to play that 5 year. But 2 years early. A shame we didn’t know how good Pollard was gonna be then. Lol.

Jerry is the biggest obstacle this organization faces every year. He does some things ok, but he cannot keep himself from crushing his toy with his smothering involvement. Smdh.

We had the youngest defense in the league I believe in 2016. Second overall team youngest. I thought the sky was the limit then. If not for some bad luck injuries suspensions. But we can do nothing but grow as a team I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings if we keep up this pace

I mentioned this in another thread…here’s an example of the development of young players and waiting to pass judgment on a guy before they can develop- I’m starting to see Dalton Schultz as the best TE we have. Jarwin isn’t terrible but Schultz is a better blocker and has good hands and sneaky ability to get some extra yards. Jarwin is faster but not sure he’s better than Schultz in much else.

Obviously we need multiple TEs so it’s a good thing to have both. But if I had to choose between Schultz or Jarwin, give me “Sergeant” Schultz. And I’m proud of his hard work to improve his game into becoming a real weapon on offense. When he was drafted and through most of his rookie year, most saw him as a throwaway pick.

One thousand percent agree. Hindsight and all that blah blah blah. Regardless, it ranks right up there with one of the more epic fails for return on investment.
