So very true. And you would think with just getting older a certain perspective change of his egomaniacal self absorption would have taken place. Just a bare bones maturity improvement at the minimum based on aging.
But nope, it's still this self made rich kid believing he's entitled to do football operations his own way and play with his toys however he sees fit. Which is to always say look at me and see what I did/can do while disregarding those that did the legwork.

A good, loving and caring family man who is generous to the community.

We know who we are on offense. It’s a high powered group with a razor thin offensive line. Any injuries on the line will derail us offensively.

I agree with you on defense as the personnel has changed greatly from last season.

Exactly, I don't know why some were expecting instant results. McCarthy is doing fine imo. We just need to be patient. Just a shame Garrett wasn't sacked earlier. Oh, and all the coordinators he had on the sidelines. I think McCarthy deserves at least 3 years to try to fix this team of Garrett before we start to go after him.

We’ve been asked to “be patient” for 25 years. The only patience I think we as fans should have is to give this team time and a chance to develop. But if we go something like 7-10 (which I don’t think will happen) the fans have a right to scream.

As someone who's never seen us in a championship, I understand the lack of patience as well. However, I think McCarthy should at least be given time to correct poor practices instilled by Garrett. Like I said, he's having to do a deep cleaning on this team. Hence why he said in training camp that they were "installing" tactics.

I think McC is safe at least through 2022 but his job security has a couple of other issues, Moore and Quinn. What if Booger & Son actually like one, or both of them, better for the future better and interest starts showing up from other teams? Does the ghost of not having Sean Payton affect them?

So far, I would say both of these coaches are on the lists of teams with HC's on the hot seat. Both have shown they can deal with the curves thrown early in the season and if you are a GM looking for an offensive minded HC, Moore showed he can play it both ways in the first two games.

I know some are down on Moore here but none of us is a NFL GM and really qualified to evaluate what he's done and how he's done it. I think we also underestimate the effect the coaching carousel of 5-8 every off season and just what's out there to hire. They'll give a guy 3-5 years to prove it and move on without a problem. Considering the tenure of Belichick, Carroll, Payton, Tomlin and Zimmer and a turnover of 20-25% a year, that's really high turnover, which will affect expectations and progress checks. I wonder if some of these GM's don't look at it like it's the cutest puppy in an ugly litter? Got to make a change even if what I want isn't out there right now.

I think having Moore and Quinn in the wings gives JJ some personal comfort, which as we all know is the #1 absolute he must have in his HC. Skill, discipline and being a leader of men is down the list of importance for Jerry because he first and foremost needs to feel personally comfortable to smother his team in any way he feels and doesn’t want some pesky HC taking any of his spotlight.

Jerry will never allow a strong personality to lead this team- like Jimmy or the Big Tuna. They took too much of his oxygen for being the centerpiece of this franchise. He’s the most oddly insecure billionaire I’ve ever seen.

In 2016 we were the youngest and hungriest team in football. I was sure that we would contend for at least the next 5 years. Without the right kind of core players and the right kind of front office success can be very fleeting. I am hoping we get back to that. I am hoping we can sustain it when we get there. I just struggle maintaining hope with this team based on when I have seen lately.

Coaching matters....we should have competed the next 5 years after 2016.

Some here really need to understand just how bad JG was. It will take time to get that of the core players...I am seeing a diference though and that brings hope.

Very good thread, now to pose this question - has Moore come out of no where with this play calling or has MM put him in a position to succeed?

I find it very odd all of us are anointing Moore when he's been on this team years past but give no credit to the head coach who was considered an elite offensive play caller - it's no coincidence this has had an affect on our game planning and matchups. Ceedee in the backfield is 100% a product of MM and what he used to do with Randall Cobb. I think MM doesn't get enough credit for how he has this team ready to play and how he's 1 upped Moore's bag when it comes to playcalling.

Moore is and will be a good play caller but it’s more about Jimmy’s and Joe’s and not X’s and O’s. Our offense is STACKED with talent.

This actually feels different imo. I can see the defence building. The offense is solid. The ST seems to be developing. This is a good sign.

As I watch the many threads on our forum, it is clear that most of us fans have a “narrative” about what this team is and isn’t. It’s based on past performance. And that’s normal and understandable.

But I want to challenge all Cowboys fans to keep your eyes open to what this 2021 team can become. This team is the second youngest team in the NFL. On the current 53 man roster, 21 players were not on the team last year. That means that almost 40% of this roster is new to the Cowboys.

The truth is, it takes at least 6-8 games- maybe more- for an NFL team to develop an identity. With 40% of this roster being new to the Cowboys, give this team some time to develop into something. None of us really know much about this team…yet.

With Neal and Anae ruled out for Monday, it is safe to say the team in November will be very different than the team they are now. But they have to stop the bleeding. Injuries are piling up and no one can expect to win without so many players.

I do think the culture within the team is starting to change. I think this draft class is a big part of it. One thing that will really help this off-season is to let Jaylon Smith walk. I think his "clear-eyed view", and mentality has been a big detriment to the team.
Not for his play on the field, I think we are seeing the coaches already sort that out, with way more limited plays - he's actually better.
But his swipe mentality and "Brand first" attitude needs to be off this team.
If we can keep the coaching staff together this off-season, and bring in some more pieces with a good team mentality.
We might finally be on the right track.
We are not world beaters yet, but even with the warts we all still see, it is starting to change.

Oh, and I was a big Surtain Jr. Guy in the draft, and although he would have been a very good pickup at corner. The gods smiled down on us with Parsons - he is the real deal !

It’s a nice narrative to develop but to form a nucleus of a contending season 3-0 has to be the outcome in the next 3 home games stretch . Gives you a nice 4-1 springboard for trips to places like NE & KC which will be tough road games.

I don’t disagree with your premise about winning the next 3 at home. That’s obviously important. But every game is important. Obviously divisional and conference games are slightly more important in playoff positioning. I really don’t look at any game as easier or harder than another. All NFL games are challenging regardless of opponent or location. And all games are winnable.

My point is if this team is ever going to “toughen up” and improve the culture, they need to go into every game thinking they have a good chance to win. Because they do. They already showed that in Tampa two weeks ago. They just need to play each game with outstanding preparation and effort and never look at the game(s) in front of them.
